Moreover it's there if you want to find it, but you've got to have that want. And the want to travel and the want to pay three hundred pounds for a forty year old seven inch single. And to quote another soulmeister, as Jon Buck would say (the want to) "keep at it".
Agreed.
I know all about the 'new blood' factor. But I'm glad it's not embraced by the masses. I just listen to them talking about Coldplay and think . As Mr Bridger always says "Simsy they don't know do they".
Anyone remember this dude? Sure he was from Essex way back in the day (mid 80's).
He used to play at the Fantasy in Braintree, had some good choons including Judy Hughes - Fine Fine Fine, I remember was a regular spin.
Wonder if any of the SX massive would remember him or know what became of him.
Mentioning no names, I know dudes that have borrowed records to do a set, which is a bit budget - granted. They have some good sounds anyway, but more imortantly they are hip to what people want to hear. Collection size is an unimportant factor.
I don't know that many people that have heard this. But I did see it in a list once and that idea that it should be considered as a collectable/desirable soul record, or possibly played out is ridiculous.
Downturn suggests there won't be an upturn. Don't think thats the case, I've known venues go through quiet patches and then go through periods where they're really busy.
Ups and downs imo.
A number of ex girlfriends (non soulies) back in the day were always keen on the Peanut Duck for some reason and assorted Timi Yuro numbers.
Always play sounds at work at lunchtime through the PC and get requests for Nolan Porter - If I could only be Sure - Lost Soul - A Secret of Mine and Jimmy & the Entertainers - New Girl.
Back in 1985 my mate bought a UK copy of Jimmy Jones - Walking from Val Palmer for £35. This was being discussed in the White Lion pub in Sawbridgeworth by some locals when Bim* was asked if he would pay £35 for a soul record. "Wouldn't pay thirty five pound for thirty five soul records" was Bim's reply.
* Bim - big fat dude = bim sloddy.
Okay the question was what track would refill the floor after an unknown floor clearer.
Answer - Lou Johnson - Unsatisfied Don't know anyone who finds it objectionable and is a nice easy paced dancer.
I hate the saying 'end of' But Unsatisfied, satisfied?
Was quite good I thought. Learnt a few things I didn't know about Marv, namely his real surname was Gay, not Gaye. His brother Frankie did actually serve in Vietnam and also his dad Marvin Snr (despite being a preacher) wore ladies underwear ...
All round not bad I thought. Followed a half hour sounds of the sixties programme which was not bad either.
Yeah I had the same problem Ted. Got round it with Freecorder (downloaded from t'internet) basically it will record anything, but you have to get your levels right, ie not too much master etc and switch off all alert sounds also.
Hope this helps
