  1. Yes, Owsley comes to mind ... (lysergic acid diethylamide)
  2. It's a peppy dancer, what's wrong with that? I think you need to have a big plate of peas and go out and come in again
  3. You're not helping are you!
  4. Umpteen versions of Trickbag. Excuses is pick of the bunch imo.
  5. Don't hear it so much these days. Is it an R&B thing?
  6. I think of oldies like seven days too long, snake, out on the floor etc. These are oldies. But what about good records that have perhaps fallen from grace, or are no longer in vogue etc? Cleveland Robinson - Love is a trap, Trickbag by the Excuses and Charles Sheffield - It's your voodoo working, for example. I understand that records can't be played to death and everything has kind of a shelf life, but surely this doesn't mean they shouldn't be played anymore does it? I'm all for upfront new discoveries and keeping it fresh etc, but when was the last time anyone heard Cleveland Robinson out? There are loads of biggies from recent years that just don't get plays anymore. Why?

Thought Tim Brown was hilarious referring to non soul fans in Todmorden as 'head the ball's"!

Moreover it's there if you want to find it, but you've got to have that want. And the want to travel and the want to pay three hundred pounds for a forty year old seven inch single. And to quote another soulmeister, as Jon Buck would say (the want to) "keep at it".

Agreed. I know all about the 'new blood' factor. But I'm glad it's not embraced by the masses. I just listen to them talking about Coldplay and think . As Mr Bridger always says "Simsy they don't know do they".

Anyone remember this dude? Sure he was from Essex way back in the day (mid 80's). He used to play at the Fantasy in Braintree, had some good choons including Judy Hughes - Fine Fine Fine, I remember was a regular spin. Wonder if any of the SX massive would remember him or know what became of him.

Mentioning no names, I know dudes that have borrowed records to do a set, which is a bit budget - granted. They have some good sounds anyway, but more imortantly they are hip to what people want to hear. Collection size is an unimportant factor.
  14. I don't know that many people that have heard this. But I did see it in a list once and that idea that it should be considered as a collectable/desirable soul record, or possibly played out is ridiculous.
  15. No the worst record ever without any doubt at all is the Four Chaps - Will you or won't you. Utter utter garbage, would rather listen to Jungle.
  16. Downturn suggests there won't be an upturn. Don't think thats the case, I've known venues go through quiet patches and then go through periods where they're really busy. Ups and downs imo.
  17. All tongue in cheek you understand And here's the reason why; /index.p...topic=17795&hl=

100 Club Longest ever running all nighter cos it's fantastic. Always was, is now and always will be
  19. Quite fond of freaking out some of these dweebies with Gloria Jones explanations "Really"? "I thought it was by Soft Cell"
  20. A number of ex girlfriends (non soulies) back in the day were always keen on the Peanut Duck for some reason and assorted Timi Yuro numbers. Always play sounds at work at lunchtime through the PC and get requests for Nolan Porter - If I could only be Sure - Lost Soul - A Secret of Mine and Jimmy & the Entertainers - New Girl.
  21. No one on this site, owns or would dream of buying pressings

Think he meant Scarlet O'Hara Joe ... Or you knew that and were doing one of these
  23. Back in 1985 my mate bought a UK copy of Jimmy Jones - Walking from Val Palmer for £35. This was being discussed in the White Lion pub in Sawbridgeworth by some locals when Bim* was asked if he would pay £35 for a soul record. "Wouldn't pay thirty five pound for thirty five soul records" was Bim's reply. * Bim - big fat dude = bim sloddy.
  24. Mind they don't attack you or edjucate you for the 'expencive' thing bruv Bib Baz Rebellion top sound btw
