  1. Agreed Good dancer imo - a little uptempo. Thought Eddie Bishop was just a great oldie. Don't hear it played out much these days though. Dunno about the north, but gonna put that right next year, eh Chalks
  2. Comuter says no. Sorry mate but the originals always the greatest
  3. Waited for it to get going ... and it never did. Don't get me wrong rich vocal quality as good as ever. Big Ben E fan etc, but his greatest ever recocord ...? Er, no.
  4. She clearly says "Ian Sims" during that song - no question ... Damn fine points raised if I may say so. Good to see you back Hammy (if indeed you are back).

Love the thread title mate Shane must have his head stuck in the pud still
  6. Good question, I've asked before .... /index.p...wtopic=20660&hl= Would appear no one really knows. How about a sound that's broken, goes big, is played bordering on excessively then rested with intermittent bursts ... ? Digression you understand not diverting subject of R&B reception to the oldies ear point
  7. Yeah regardless of tempo a northern newie is still northern. Whereas R&B is an offshoot and therefor a little different/novelty? Now we await comments from oldies heads that hate R&B!
  8. Not sure about that mate 'oldies' part of whole scene for a start and how could he generalise on 'rare soul newie' - uptempo? mid tempo? ballad? Having said all that, I kind of understand the point he was trying to make. Interesting point.
  9. What you on about? Nice vocal - shit banjo. Bit thin on the ground for production values back then. Thought there was a sniff of calypso or sommat during that crossingover-ness ... 6/10 try again with horns.
  10. That's fantastic mate We all had a rare old laugh in our house (and forwarded it to everyone in the address book)
  11. Nah dunno it mate. Use to play the plug side in the car, but my mate hated it and would sing along adding; "If this isn't a good record"! Merry Christmas
  12. Uh huh Johnny Bartel in a wig innit ...! Yeah, I thought use of the word 'ain't' in the title was a bit strange, maybe diff version etc ... Merry Christmas!
  13. Johnny Bartel - If this isn't love (SOLID STATE)
  14. Well I'm thinking of the one that goes "if this isn't love, I don't know what is" repeat ... "I have know many women before, given my heart to a few ... " Sixties sounding thing, shouty backing ... Been around year's ... But got a few spins recently. So I don't know mate, unless your version is some techno soul disco y2k unusuallness ...
  15. Made this year ... ?
  16. What's your collection like at the moment? Do you feel you have to go out and buy a lot of sounds before you can start? Think a lot of it's down to taste and playing sounds that the dancers will want to hear and indeed dance to. Why don't you post up a dozen or so sounds, that's about a forty minute spot then we can see what your'e all about, musically speaking as it were. Just a suggestion. Simsy.
  17. Well I still say those old boys sound like Cornershop when they get going. But the 'hey' shouts are fab. Could be used in a telly ad to good effect I'd think.

  19. I'd predict a riot.
  20. Yeah hang on I'm confusing Little Eva with Millie 'my boy lollipop' who was more Latin American. Kenny - you're having a laugh mate!
  21. Thing is Mr Fosland the people who are bidding on your boots could well be poor unsuspecting soulies. On our scene, If we are out dancing and someone treads on your toe you get eye contact and a tactile sincere apology. This is the the etiquette and common courtesy that we afford each other. Not just on the dance floor, but throughout every aspect of the scene and you and your 'mega rare' boots just doesn't sit well with an honest representation of what you are selling. People on here have the smarts to see right through your silly game. It's not just Martyn that is a gentleman, pretty much everyone on the scene is. But you sir, well I'm not so sure to be honest.
  22. Or those knob heads on ''where's Wigan' radio show. Keb's brilliant, I remember him dj'ing after the Car Wash I think it was and a few of the regulars had hung back, smirking & lurking when Keb announced over the mic in his unmistakable voice ... "if you don't like soul music, f**k off"!
  23. Top weirdness. Sounds like Cornershop on acid. Deffo think (if you haven't already) you should post that up in the 'bizarre' thread Shute. Am right in thinking there is just a plain instrumental version?
  24. Nice one Jon. There can't be anyone who would think Peanut Duck vocalist would be white?
