  1. This and Eric Mercury pick of the bunch mentioned so far imo. If it's Kettle drums though ... head and shoulders above everything else ... Chapter 5

Ditto with Ray fantastic. Edwin Starr live was great. As was Garland Green.

I'd say so So Cookie can bill herself as the UK's #1 NS dealer ???

Well all I can think is UK soul gals are getting their beauty sleep. Andy reckons they need it (He said that, not me) Think they have some answering to do ...

Yeah, any good? Asked a qustion of some bird from North Carolina (or sim) who had a Bing Crosby number as 'Mega Northern Soul' - - "Who told you this was mega northern soul"? She replied back "yo mumma"! Cheeky mare. So no UK lasses with lists then? Poor show.

Dunno about that Derek. If that were the case then there wouldn't be any women dj's would there?
  11. No shortage of lady dj's. But how many full on dealers are there? By 'full on' I mean lists etc, not just trades and sales boxes. Only one's I know of are kind of man and wife teams. So are there any? And if not, why not?

So the club that proved mid tempo numbers in a big way wasn't such a bad thing. And widened the music spectrum from loads of 100mph stompers didn't contribute much? Beg to differ ...
  13. Bit to zooafile for me . I Prefer blondes
  14. Great? Think I know what you are driving at and I think your being a little unfair. Don Varner was given as an example of a northern soul record with balls and not a comparison to a whole labels worth of product. That was all, don't need to disappear up one's own jacksy with 'Philly International the absolute epitome of Sophisticated Soul music'.
  15. And the Antellects eh Pete?
  16. You need me to tell you? /Don_Varner_...tained_Face
  17. Perfect description Even if it were soul music, it's soul music with no balls.

I'd like them just to announce the artist of each track, no real need to say much else. Maybe the odd dedication and that's about it. Emmerdale dialect shorter to type - owt/anything tother/the other.

Not too little and not too much chat I think is what's needed. Can't bear it when they go on and on. But spinning discs one after tother without saying owt is no good. A fine balance what's needed imo.

Give us a clue what sort of sensible offers you're after.

Sorry to but in. But yeah it's been played out - couple of Crossfire's back. Played at either the Dome, or Plinston, or Both. Good record imo. Not a floorpacker as such I'd say. But good all the same.
  23. Year's ago at the Carwash (I think) Sunday evening, after their disco bash our northern night started. A goodly number of disco bods had hung back and were either kind of taking the pish, or were primed to take the p. Keb was dj'ing at the time and in his own inimitable manner proclaimed "If you don't like soul music ... fcuk off"!
