  1. Ah bless.
  2. garv 4.23pm today "i think if you love soul music, there all good years". Very true mate. No one mentioned 74' yet?
  3. Freddie Scott. Uphill clime to my bottom, superb btw.
  4. And those sounds in question were requests weren't they? Endless modern has me reaching for the car keys to be honest.
  5. This was featured in the Wigan play 'Once upon a time'. Reminded me of what a great record it is. Indeed. Superb choice. Imperial records, e-bay, tenner. Few of old faves, some probably wouldn't standup to a dust off, but; Patti & The Emblems - I'm gonna love you a long long time. Hesitations - I'm not built that way. Tony Middleton - Spanish Maiden. Carl Douglas - Serving a sentence of life. Chubby Checker - You just don't know. Lou Roberts - Ten to one.
  6. I'd say so 5.07am 1st post this morn.
  7. Raincheck. On the pint I mean. Forget the fight. Where are you off to this weekend?
  8. That record aside, it would depend on the definintion of Crossover. And round we go again Don't spose you'll be at the 100, coz I could buy you a pint a bitter and we could have a fight about it then.

  10. Sounds like you've never been a mod Russ. No one said it was played in a mod club first. Said it was mod sounding. Not crossover by your definition. Not soul either. That's brilliant.
  11. Seen it in a list. And heard it (though not out). Said it before, say it again - worst ever - The Four Chaps - Will you or won't you. Ludicrous barrow boy garbage.
  12. Borrowed from 'Top 10' thread.
  13. Yeah, to be fair the club question I knew the answer to before I asked it. Don't you worry about Saturday, I've spent one or two hours in that place to know what's acceptable to play and what not. Rob messer played Tony Galla in there not so long back. This white organ number being a little different to a soul dancer with horns etc. Months ago? Year's ago white poppy records (amongst others) had been described as such. If everyone wants late sixtes funky souly type stuff as crossover only and that's it, then that's fine by me. Accepted majority NS definition: Crossover; Late Sixties and early Seventies, records that don't fit the old style stomper beat, but don't fit comfortably into the Modern scene. The difficulty with Crossover is just that though, because it doesn't fit into either scene entirely it gets played on both, so just blurs the descriptions even more. Non soul police general; Crossover is a term used to describe artists of a certain style or genre whose popularity crosses the considered boundaries of where the music of that style or genre is normally found. "Crossing over" is a marketing term, and is always a movement toward the mainstream. Appropriation of a new style by combining elements of different genres in order to appeal to a wider audience.
  14. Does it have to have been played in a mod club to be a mod record then?
  15. 'uptempo northern' notice there wasn't a mention of soul there. And that's because Tony Galla isn't a soul record it's a sixties beat mod thing that has crossed over to the ns scene. That's the whole point crossover isn't just that disco shite, there's good cross over as well. No but I'm very fond of you.
  16. Cheers Eddie. Great to put a year to some of those sounds. When they were getting plays etc. I was a sunburnt 10 year old on Tenby beach, who knew not the ways of NS.
