  1. I do need to get myself along to SHS though, that much is for sure Is Stuart Tyler really a resident there Dave? Is he back for good from Gurnsey?
  2. 137 or whatever posts in and I'm thinking things will be better musically for me when I'm based back in the Midlands. I'm only really in range of nighters in the Midlands or the North at the moment. People that are fortunate enough to live in the North of England, have a wealth of choice of soul nights, nighters and mini nighters - not to mention dayers, where all sorts of music can be heard. In the South, it's a little different. I own this. Never played it out and (despite this thread) probably never will. Yet, there was a time ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJQTzxxeIIA
  3. Not at the nighters I go to it isn't, certainly not rife.
  4. Fair point there Squire. Thread really more to do with perhaps a lack of bb/midtempo esp at nighters. Ere, get a load of this underplayed masterpiece https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FF-aOZTXnzM
  5. Good to see you at the 100 Geoff. After reading the developments of this thread with interest, it would seem there is a tempo greyish area on anything that isn't 100 mph. That said, I'd not really seen 'medium tempo' until the above. So maybe we need a new scale? Slowy - Beat Ballad - Mid Tempo Beat Ballad - Medium Mid Tempo - Up Tempo - Stomper .....
  6. I think at a lot of nighters at least, the emphasis is too much towards up tempo. Nothing against uptempo, but some more mid tempo magic, underplayed stuff and the beat ballads you speak of. You would think the more hours to fill at a nighter would allow less uptempo stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOqCxEIPBCY
  7. Is it fair to say there's more mid tempo at soul nights than nighters these days?
  8. I suppose it depends where you go still to an extent, but these days if you hear a half dozen mid tempo numbers all night, you're doing well. So what happened to this wonderful genre that played such a big part at Stafford and the 100 Club in earlier years? And of course, would folk like to hear more of that sort of thing again these days?
  9. Look for ten pounds, you could be Peter Manship. I'm sure this action would show a significant percentage increase in annual record sales. Here's a couple of words from Eamonn to get you started. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTnhoRrYQrs#at=14
  10. Pitching up and forgetting to pitch down again. Cuing up the left deck with the cross fader in the middle and the volume still up and of course hitting deck stop on a playing record. The Devil made me do it as penance for having too many sherbets..
  11. There's a strong VG+ copy of NCSMN on ebay at the minute, a shade under £400 with a couple of days to go. Such a top soulful tune imo, that Sam Cooke -esq raspy soul lyric does it for me.
  12. Once on Manship list for £200 mid 1990's. Paid £35 for mine, late 80's. Cracking offer, brilliant record!
  13. General Wants spot on, think about it!
  14. With extra organ.
  15. lol, well sometimes it's the only way to engage some of the lazy feckers on here (just joking) so there's method in my madness!
  16. Now we're getting somewhere. Difficult to tell with these rare beasts, when was the last time someone bought one and what condition was it in. None of this helps with what an Ex copy for example might go for these days. £3k mark sounds realistic, just the waiting for one to come up (and of course have the 3k kicking about )
  17. 2 apparently..
  18. 22 posts on this thread, various others, but no scans and no idea of price. So how many £k's for one in half decent nick?
  19. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xreFV__jFiQ
  20. I think you've done a bang up job there LG. Seen many versions of that spoof vid, but never an NS type one. Sure JM won't mind the publicity and would/will take it in the spirit in which it was intended. Thanks for giving us all a good grin today, top man!
  21. I thought it was funny as feck, like the rest of us, but now you come to mention it, there's more than a couple of references of bombing Manship and destroying Manship.. Hmm.. Johhny boy been schtum on the subject far as I can see, all over facebook..
  22. Soulontop you're a scream! The comment, the signature, the whole schmear! Keep it up, ktf, right on, okeh..
  23. In terms of audio, technology will never eclipse originality with regards the Northern Soul scene, which, like it or not, keeps on burning. For and on behalf of The Soul Police.
