  1. Thanks for sharing. Takes me back.. We were more at risk of cancer from smoking back then as far more did then than do now. Talc usage at venues has declined over the years I’m sure. I’d be more concerned about the sugar in your tea than talc particles tbh..
  2. It really is, it’s got everything!
  3. Eighty seven hundred quid for VG! Geez. Does Soul Sam still have a copy?
  4. Well we are all entitled to our opinions. Thought some might have a more open minded approach, but I suppose folk get set in their ways and it’s oh so easy to jump on the bandwagon, sigh. To my mind and ear, it had a good intro, a good beat and great backing vocals. Chummy out front wouldn’t look out of place at the Kings Hall in his loafers, chinos & singlet. Yet it was awful, embarrassing, even the man from del monte had a say. Next time there’s someone crossover dirge being discussed, I’ll think of this thread.
  5. Unbearable? Embarrassing? I don’t see that as reasonable comment regarding this track. As has already been stated, it’s tons better than some of the Emporers new funk shite I’ve heard played out. Few band wagon jumpers on this thread.
  6. I only recently heard this on the radio. With its Javells sounding intro, my ears pricked up. I have to say I like it. They’re a UK outfit who’ve been around for a few years with quite a few releases. This for me has that Winehouse Rehab impact and I’d be interested to hear your thoughts.
  7. When she was younger, my dear wife thought Lipstick Traces by the O’Jays was “lipstick Tracey”
  8. A few US originals to go. £20 each. £3.80 postage UK only. Payment via bank transfer, or PayPal F&F. Thanks for looking. Jewel Akens - Wee bit more of your love - vg++ Oscar Boyd - When things get a little better - ex Turly Richards - Just can’t take it any longer - ex Sandra Richardson - Stay here with me - ex Willie Cobb - You don’t love me - ex
  9. VG+ copy sold last month just over a grand. Bit of a bargain. Always thought it was a money sound.
  10. Scarcely seen. Even less so is the ‘kids edit’. Same track, but with children singing along. Interested to know more on this version.
  11. My favourite group and my favourite track, lead by Paul Williams. Never been 100% that he killed himself. Talk of foul play. Sad loss of a tortured soul.
  12. Get well soon Mark. Regards Simsy.
  13. Yet to be mentioned is the fantastic Rita & the Tiaras - Out of your life c/u. Along with Chuck Jackson & Jean Carter, these would be my top three.
  14. On the flip side of ‘what’s your name’ by Don & Juan on BIGTOP is this 1961 Groover - Chicken Necks (or ‘chicken hex’ as my little lad used to say).
  15. Shocked and saddened to hear this news today. R.I.P Carl.
  16. I know the Montclairs is 69, but always thought of as a modern sound. A few more killers I’ll never own..
  17. Yup aware of that. Shrine release not the sort of thing that could be played out and may serve to increase the value of my Jet Set copy. Happy days.
  18. Little bit surprised to see the inclusion of Barbara Long, as WCIL wasn’t on Shrine.
  19. Well quite! I’m in my late 50’s and have lived in Rugby for the last ten years and have visited Leicester many times. So I hear you all the way. Back then though a wet behind the ears soft Southern teenager had no reason to doubt the word of the local plod!
  20. Shocked to read this news about Godzilla. I think back to the fun we used to have on here. Stomping on Japanese cities since 1954.
  21. Oh gawd, things we do for soul eh? Father in law was on his way to a nighter in Manchester, when his timing belt broke and munched the whole engine.
  22. Last weekend we had a burst water main at Rugby not far from the venue and the night had to be cancelled at very short notice. It got me thinking about nights we’ve set out to, only to find our plans were dashed for one bizarre reason or another. Back in the late eighties, we got a train to London Euston and a National Express coach to Leicester for an Oddfellows allnighter. Only to find on arrival the night had been cancelled. A copper told us that with our Southern accents, being in Leicester on a Saturday night when the pubs were chucking out wasn’t wise and we could come to the nick with him and stay in the cells for a while for our own safety. Ended up getting a lift back via Watford Gap Services for a consolation sarn. There’s that fantastic Jo Wallace tale of being in a car accident en route to Wigan and when the ambulance crew asked “do you want to go to hospital”? She replied “No, I want to go to Wigan”! Lets hear those stories..
