UK Jay Boy 45's were usually lifted off a US copy of the relevant 45 and then Euro released versions taken from the UK copy ... so a fault on the US version was 'spread' across Europe & then into Sth Africa, India, Australia & N Zealand if the single had legs. Guess that means that the US Jay Boy label came first. US 45 version of this was a Nov 68 release, UK one also Nov 68 .... so maybe it was a simultaneous thing (with a US acetate used to source the UK Jay Boy copy). It was played in UK soul clubs from the day it was released here.

John tells me that Timmy Thomas has been added to the panel at this event and will also perform (the Florida Soul event November 19th, 4:30 pm, in the Miami Book Fair). ALSO the great Jackie Moore (who also has a chapter in his book) will also be on the panel and even though she says she is having trouble with her voice, she is considering joining her buddy Timmy and performing as well.. I wrote James Bell's bio for Prestatyn but don't know if I still have it (the website was taken down & my document copy is on an old PC). Should have a copy of the printed prog from the event somewhere though. Got to chat to James quite a bit at Prestatyn (wasn't he at least 2 of those weekenders ?) but can't instantly recall the content of our chats ... it most certainly will not have been about which was the 1st UK DJ / venue where his cut was spun though.

Yep, it's South African. . . . . TMJ123 was Marvin & Kim's "IT TAKES TWO" with TMJ162 being Marvin & Tammi's "AIN'T NOTHING LIKE THE REAL THING". Sth Africa had releases on Tamla Motown from around 1966 till at least 1975.

Golden State was a record label BUT it was also a recording studio (both run by Leo Kulka out of San Fran). He also had the Golden Soul label & his own mastering service (Sonic Arts out of the same building @ 665 Harrison Street, San Francisco). His label seemed to use around 8 / 9 different numbering systems but by the late 70's, the label was using numbers more like #437. None of their systems used any number like 201. So, I'm guessing that this could even have been cut at Golden State but not destined to come out on the GS label (which seemed largely in-active at the time). The record that did escape on the label in 78 was by female Joy Higgins and it obviously ain't that. I quite like it, it has a sort of jazzy (70's) Terry Callier type of vibe. Bet the likes of Colin Curtis would go for it.

So was Mood Mosaic played at Wigan then ? ... I know it gotta plenty of spins in UK soul clubs between 66 & 69 .. thought it would have been 'old hat' by 74/75ish and later ... after all it had gotten 2 UK releases on 45 by Sept 69, it was available on the UK LP and on Canadian & Euro released 45's.

Bet they put on a similar show here (Back in August 68) ...

The Ikettes always wore those short skirts (see above clip) on shows back in the mid to late 60's ... I saw them a few times at clubs like the Wheel ... I'd stand right down front next to the stage (which wasn't too large, especially when there were more than 10 people up there). There wasn't much roon, so the Ikettes had to stand really close to the front of the stage and dance around wildly in those short outfits ... strangely, they made a really big impression on this 18 year old kid. They performed a lot like this back when I used to go see em ...

Tina Turner was in London today, checkin in on how preparations for the musical play about her life are progressing .... She (with the IKE & TINA Review) was on ITV back in 1968 ....

Don't know about the price it goes for on 7" (as it only escaped in Sweden) but this is a gentle laid back soulful dancer ... dates from 1993 ... you have to get over it being sung in a foreign language though .... BTW, ANYONE KNOW what her version/s of Curtis's "Give Me Your Love" (also a Swedish release in 1990) is like ??

John tells me that Latimore, his wife and daughter will all be attending the Florida Soul Book launch party held on October 27 at the Palladium Theater in St. Petersburg (FL). Lat might even sit in with Little Jake (Jock Mitchell) and the Soul Searchers on the live show. He's also had confirmation that Frankie Gearing will sing at the event and Sarasota Slim will sit in on guitar.
