Always loved this cut (though the 7" version is my choice) …. half the length of this version …

I guess this is the 1958 track & not the one with a similar title from 1970.

A more recent recording by her (+ a bit of a bio that came with it) …. Classic R&B sound similar to what an Aretha Franklin / Charlie Wilson collaboration might sound like. Power house vocalist Loraine Rudolph supported vocally by a soulful Jerry Wilder deliver a rousing rendition of Loraine's timely lyric. With "Let's Go Back" Ms. Rudolph invites us to revisit the more courteous and moral traditions of the past that are sorely missed in today's 'right turn on red' society. A funky guitar solo by none other than guitarist extraordinaire, Rock Tipton over an old school urban track by Lincoln Ross makes for an excellent home demo with a big studio sound and a message that will never go out of style. ……… not a bad effort at all ………… https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/lorainerudolph If she can still sing like that, someone should fetch her over here for a live show.

Also escaped in the UK on 7" & 12" singles ...

Have a massive collection of 7", 12" singles, LP's, some 78's, CD's, etc … have loads of 12"ers but most are banished to the loft / garage as they weigh too much & take up too much space. OF COURSE, some contain remix versions of cuts that are only available on a 12" single (either US or UK) and so they can remain in my record room. Along with the likes of John Benson, used to make trips south to London to go junking in places like Record & Tape Exchange in the 80's / 90's, so picked up copies of many of the UK 7" versions of JF tracks at minimal cost. You could pick up copies of many UK Atlantic 7" / 12" singles in places like R & T Exch back in the day for 10p / 25p / 50p, so I did. For instance, had a couple of cheap unplayed copies of a similar Atlantic 12"; Bettye LaVette's "Doin The Best That I Can". Took a copy along to a Cleggy Weekender to get Bettye to sign it. She had never seen a copy of the 12" on Atlantic (it was on West End in the States), so of course, it went back Stateside with her.

I would guess that the Gemini Star 45 could be her as the label's operators were active in the DC / Balt / Philly / NY areas. Like the Constellations 45's on the label, most probably cut at Broadway Recording Studios in New York. When David Ruffin teamed with the Cavaliers after leaving the Temptations, he seemed to base himself out of the DC area for a while. The Cavs renamed themselves the Fellas and were noted as having signed a deal (after Ruffin returned to Motown as a solo artist) with Gemini Star -- why no 45 ever appeared I have no idea. Below are a number of DC club ads, these venues are the clubs Lorraine would have appeared at in the city in the mid to late 60's …. ANOTHER QUESTION THOUGH … if she was based out of DC from around 63 to 79, how come she signed a record deal with Houston based Meaux ?? .. ALSO an ad for a Xmas / New Year show @ the Howard in DC in Dec 68 …

The JetStream stuff was cut in the mid 70's by Huey P Meaux @ SugarHill Recording Studios, 5626 Brock St. Houston, Texas (still operating as a working studio -- it's where Beyoncé cut lots of her stuff), Meaux owned the studio in the 70's. Whereas the Tri Phi / Harvey stuff was cut by Harvey Fuqua in Detroit in the early 60's … but then it's not unusual for US singers to relocate in an attempt to further their careers.

Back nearer home, Jerrio always got lots of support from St Louis's KATZ radio stn ...

Not a cheap item, so some MS guys must be aware of it …...

More US 60's soul dance 45's …

Most songs released on Savern were credited to Nicolet music … as were lots of other top Chicago written numbers (including Major Lance's "Monkey Time")

What was the connection between Sagport / Savern's Frankie Newsome … AND … the Vontastics / Karol Records Bobby James / Spring Records Bobby Newsome (Robert L Newsome) ….. brothers, cousins ??

He'd been around for ages, any early group he led … his modern sound, deffo not Modern Soul …

Not truly on topic as lots of these venues are well outside London ... BUT ... here's a typical month of gigs for two London based UK soul outfits back in early 67 ... quite a few London area venues but other spread far & wide around the UK ... Plus 2 more UK based acts that played Klooks Kleek ...

Always like the Webs recorded output ... their stuff was released in Europe too on nice piccy cover 7"ers.

Our bunch had the same views on the show as you. Luckily we were sat among folk who did give Garnett a fair hearing AND we also walked out during the Hendrix set ... (2nd time I'd seen him & not impressed at all either time) ...

A musician's view on the introduction of local authority club licensing back in 67 ....

A few more 60's flyers / ads ... members of the Beatles appear in the above video ... they also used to attend a lot of the shows staged at the Saville Theatre in London in 67 (Brian Epstein owned / ran it then ). I attended a show at the Saville, saw Jimi Hendrix (not great) & Garnett Mimms (very good) that night. The Platters (below ad) were really the Steinways (ex Laddins) .. A fake version of the Show Stoppers also toured here back then (can't recall if the outfit below were the real or fake group). Joe Tex was booked to tour the UK about 3 times in the 60's; think he cancelled each time.

Got a couple more old bits to post up but can't find anything much on line about 2 of the London celeb clubs, the Revolution and the Speakeasy. Both venues had top U S live acts on (like Ike & Tina + more). The Revolution Club ... then a Speakeasy ad from 67.
