  1. O'Malley's Romark track ain't on youtube, but you can listen to a snippet of it here ......... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pay-And-Be-On-Way/dp/B00CX1K0GI
  2. O'Malley's singing on this track (from 1980) as well ............. a twice released (on different labels) 12" single ........ https://www.discogs.com/Ty-Karim-George-Griffin-Ty-Towana-Feat-OMalley-Jones-Keep-On-Doin-Whatcha-Doin-Catch-Action/release/1528165
  3. Thanks for the pointer Ady, its a good clip (& there are others of him). What age must he be now ?? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BeC30Ey-iQ
  4. Gloria Milller, one of Mayfield's lead vocalists, performing a while back ...
  5. How did the foreign (UK, France, Switzerland) licensing deals come about & who ran the UK Airwave label (who put out the Mel Carter & Monalisa Young single) ?
  6. Lifted from the anorakscorner web site ...... ...... PRESSING PLANT INFO ...... H.V. Waddell Co. - Burbank, Calif. -- Featued a "W" stamped in the dead-wax. Closed in the mid-80's. So Airwave were using the place to make their test pressings in late 82. Guess they had their 'normal stock' pressed up there as well back then. Info on a fraction of what was pressed up at Waddells here ..... https://www.discogs.com/label/H.V.+Waddell+Co.
  7. Found this out while tidying up old paperwork that I had filed away (in no particular order) about 20 years ago. Scanner 'up the spout' at present, so could only take a photo of it. Wonder if the info it contains fetches back any memories for Robb ? Some info here .... https://www.discogs.com/label/Airwave%20Records%20(2) & here .... https://www.discogs.com/label/Airwave+International
  8. Back to 1967 now & Sheffield's King Mojo Club ........... Only actually attended the niter that was held on 1st April when the (fake) Drifters were the live act. My mate Tom Sleight wouldn't go to the niter on 4th March coz no live act was on and we'd been to see the Alan Bown Set there the Sunday before. So he couldn't see the point in heading over to Sheffield once again. Didn't go see Zoot Money either as cash that week was short and we'd seen Zoot's Big Roll Band at the Boulevard (Tadcaster) on NY's Eve. Zoot & the group had turned up really late that night which had screwed up the night's timetable on that important occasion. Anyway, Steve Jennison & Graham Bolton were over in Dony (from Hull) that weekend, so we took em out on the town and then gatecrashed a couple of late night parties. Spent the middle of the following week in Hull (the place always had a great nite life scene back then). Grey Bolton And Phil Smith came back to Sth Yorks with us and we all went to the Mojo niter together on the Saturday (Tom Sleight also being a member of our small troop). Had a great time at the niter but did note down that there was a lack of 'birds' in attendance at the club that night. Made no mention of what songs the 'Drifters' performed or how good I thought they were.
  9. Eddie was surely destined to develop into an actual tree ... ... but he went through a wild unruly stage (a bit like you good sir) and so was cut off in his prime.
  10. No good on current prices but I'd guess you'd get little (or no change) from £500.
  11. The Lloyd & Glen cut ........... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwaFLnp9OxY
  12. Reggae artist cutting in Jamaica for a reggae producer, released on a reggae label. Great MS track released in the UK in 67. He cut tracks over about a 9 year period (1967 - 76) No doubt one of our resident Ja experts can tell you who he really was (what his real name was, as I guess it wasn't Glen Miller). Was he half of 'Lloyd & Glen' who cut a version of CM's "Keep On Pushing"??
  13. So what's the story behind how Danny White got his hands on these 2 top-notch Hayes / Porter songs in 1966 ??? Surely just about every soul artist would have given their right arm for such an opportunity back then, after all they were proven big hit song writers by then. I know they had already provided songs for two of Danny's earlier Frisco 45s but how come a Stax artist didn't have 1st refusal on these songs ?
  14. Not bought a copy yet, the 'beach bands & garage bands' in the description has been putting me off a bit. How much of the content (% wise) deals with soul acts ??
  15. From next January, we (the wife & I) will be spending 6 to 8 weeks in Florida every winter (she cann't cope with freezing conditions anymore). So I've been 'storing up' good deals via Amazon US and the like to finalise when the items can be shipped 'locally'. I can wait 5 months or so for lots of the books (CD's / records) I'm after (after all, I already have a 6 month backlog of books I've not yet gotten around to reading). ........ TO THINK THAT WHEN I RETIRED ....... ... ..I thought I'd have time for lots of things I'd been putting off for years (sorting the 45 / LP / CD collection out being one such task). Seems not, as I can't even make the time to catch up on my planned reading.
  16. Yes but most book dealers on US Amazon don't ship to the UK. If they are willing to ship to England, they also put their stuff up on UK Amazon. There are no copies of the book available via Amazon UK.
  17. Why would a German record label use a generic 'black guy' picture for the cover of a LP by a soul duo -- Pic & Bill. It makes no sense at all, especially as Major Bill seemed to be sourcing Euro record companies with multiple decent pics of P&B back then. Guess someone at Vibration was just very lazy.
  18. A 1960 ad for a Clyde McPhatter 45 .........
  19. Not an old poster this time ... BUT . ..... a poster for a show that's on in LA this weekend ............
  20. So how does Johnny Honeycutt fit into the 'Carolinas picture' ?? I always had him down as being New York based !!
  21. The "Kick That Little Foot Sally Ann" guy grom the 60's ('Round Robin' Lloyd). This later album goes for a lot more wonga ............
  22. It's my understanding that Yvonne was born in the 1930's, so that would make her around 75 years of age now (if still alive). I don't believe her passing has ever been reported but that may just mean that she's 'under the radar' as far as the press are concerned these days.
  23. Yes, I have a copy of their French Decca 45 .... always loved the picture cover.
  24. Seems I will have to as I also need to understand how Branch became associated with Sansu (down in New Orleans), how the Backyard Heavies fit into the 'Tempests' picture in the early 70's and some background info on Reflection Sound Studios in Charlotte.
  25. In that case, I'll stop lookin. Many thanx.
