Another Eddie Ray production ..... Tommy Mosley ...... who had been around for a few years by the time this 45 escaped ...

Eddie Ray, who produced quite a few sides for Uptown (& Tower) in LA had earlier worked with the likes of H B Barnum, Mel Carter and Irma Thomas. He had quite a bit of success as a song writer too.

A slower number (but very classy) .... the Selectives & Jimmie Green .......... from October 65 ......... ........ another LA recording I assume ..........

Also released in 65 @ the end of the year (or early in 66) : Lena & the Deltanettes ............... .... this must have been a local LA recording ...........

Larry Hancock & the boys had this 45 out around November 65 .... so that meant the label had released 17/18 (as I assume Randy Taylor's Kim Fowley produced outing escaped at the same time) single's out in it's first 6 months -- not bad -- a rate of 3 a month.

Lots of gudstuf was released on this label run by Tower Records. Most is known as the international release of some Gloria Jones Uptown 45's led to this US label having a high profile in the UK as early as the mid 60's. Lots of fine outings by the likes of Gloria, the Intertains, Cookie Jackson, Roy C, King Floyd, Randy Taylor, etc. A few items cut in NOla studios also escaped on the label including the 45 from K C Russell that helped launch the imprint ..... What lesser known items are favoured by listies here ??

A little song you might know that Larry Hancock wrote .......... bet the Intertains sang it live on their live shows too ....

Going back 2 pictures, Larry Hancock, as well as being a mainstay in S.O.U.L + a solo artist, had started off in the Intertains. He also wrote songs that the likes of the O'Jays recorded ............ .... a talented guy all round; their 45 escaped around November 65 .....

Sidney's version of the song has different writers to the Majors ......... MOST STRANGE !!

It seems that the Major's take on the above song escaped BEFORE the version that everyone calls 'the original' -- Sidney Joe Qualls Dakar version ........

Major's "How Can I Say Goodbye" obviously escaped somewhere in Europe as well .... BUT ... it didn't escape in the US (as he had a current label there at the time -- June 74) ... It seems that it escaped in Belgium twice, once on the above Contempo 45 and also on a reissue label .........

One of the LPs the 'visiting DJ' pulls out is the Stax LP 'Sweet Sweetback's Baddas Song' (which features the EW&F guys backing up Melvin Van Peebles) !!

It seems that one of Europe's largest 45 collections is about to be culled. They have no idea how many records make up the collection, they weigh it (4 tons in total) to gauge how many they have. It seems that by the early 70's, some Motown acts were going on stage backed up by Stax people (the Fabulous Soul Children's Band) ...

No mention on this thread yet for the Ambassadors ........... Had to be 6 or 7 separate SOUL groups that used the name (if we can include Betty Moores lot in the total).

Johnny Otis had some great people work with him down the years (though most weren't jazzy).

And I could've bought a copy for 94c from Randy's Record Shop but I hadn't heard anything by any version of the Ambassadors back in the 60's ..
