  1. What was the t.v. theme music it was used for? Was it This Is Your Right? or some suchlike?? Edit: Yep, just Googled it, Granada T.V.s This Is Your Right, with Dr Michel Winstanley no less, was on every week in Granada Land for years.
  2. Never been back down Station Rd since the day. Been to Wigan the town dozens of times too, Footie/Rugby etc. Memories locked in my head forever and don't need to go back there, the wall we sat on right across the road many a time and would often come out for cool air & listen to muffled sound & chatting with likeminded people in the wee small hours, all still there in my head. Although do admit to peaking on Google street maps.
  3. I loved this at Wigan, tried to buy a copy of Richard, he'd let it go the week before, that killed me at the time. To be honest, it's dated now, sounds like something by Russ Conway played an Blackpool tower organ now, still, it was a great atmospheric tune in the main hall, it was of its time. Anyone remember the horrible vocal? Was it Sammy Davis Jr or was that a cover up name, I seem to remember?
  4. Did Parr Hall Warrington make it in there Ian?
  5. No Stevie, he is a black actor called Chadwick Boseman, big star of the future me thinks.
  6. Yeah, but that was true of JB himself too, didn't you think the young actor playing him very was good Pete? I thought he nailed it, not an easy feat.
  7. It's good, deffo worth watching. I've previously posted up on here somewhere as a recommendation to watch. It's a really good effort. Not a spoiler, but considering he was mad as a box of frogs, he didn't half have some clever business acumen. Enjoy the movie.
  8. Well I think the film was a good effort & not actually just all about Wigan, but more about the generic Northern scene that just includes Wigan because that was the epicentre & still is the spiritual epicentre, which is why there is so much interest from outside. Love it or loathe it, it's Wigans legacy that generates so much interest from elsewhere. Halcyon days for the scene, that were never to be repeated on such a grand scale, which is probably a good thing because the post Wigan fragmentation spawned some great venues & diversity all of its own & those probably kept the scene alive.
  9. Crackin picture Pete, was gonna say deffo 80+ or even the last year, a pair of Lois jeans & a footie wedge on show.
  10. Wasn't it more to do with the influence of likes of James Brown/Jackie Wilson or even going back further the likes of Cab Calloway & The Cotton Club or the black street dancers your see from 20's & 30's in the depressed U.S.A.? I suspect that's closer to the truth & the dancing probably took a life of it's own, but I've always assumed thats where the acrobatic breaks came from but I don't know for sure.
  11. Yeah, it's deffo the GSH version, as I wasn't sure it was him myself, I paused the tv and then used Shazam, came up with GSH.
  12. I have a bungalow right opposite my house. Yesterday, I was watching a Magpie, he was more than interested in of the roof overhang beneath the guttering, landed on a fence right near, looking up into this guttering, made four attempts to get up there, eventually managed to perch on a sideways downpipe, stuck his head right into the guttering for ages. Dawned on me that he was looking for chicks or maybe eggs to eat from another nest, even though it's wrong time of year, maybe the mild weather, don't know. Can any birdwatchers on here confirm if I'm right? Is this common practice with Magpies?
  13. Although to be fair Macca, being a Jew does give Speilberg more insight and empathy when dealing with a subject like the holocaust, I'm sure you'll agree. The NS film is a work of fiction at the end of the day, but so obviously a labour of love, when you look at the amount of effort and the meticulous attention to minute detail. It's that insight and empathy of the very subject that carries the film off, so its actually not much different to Spielberg when dealing with the holocaust. There is a seven hour documentary called Shoah (Yiddish for Holocaust), it's one the most moving films I've ever seen, it's just face to face monologue with survivors being interviewed by the camera, about their own experiences at the camps, it's was so informative too, and I can see that much of this was used in Schindler's List, real meticulous attention to detail, and the importance of that detail is not lost. Obviously two very different subject, one about one of the worse events ever, and one about a youth culture, but you can see the obsession put in from both directors, I applaud Elaine Constantine for that.
  14. Yeah agree, love that track, the bit where the track stops dead & then carries on, superb. What a voice too, pretty fly for a white guy!
  15. Yeah it was a big sound, at the very same time this was big, Bobby Diamond's Stop & Helen Shapiro Stop Pretending, every third record had Stop it in the title it seemed. Helen Shapiro's was the biggest on the dance floor but Bobby Diamonds the best sound IMO.
  16. Jesus, I'd be digging through that lot quicker than a terrier in a badger set.
  17. Ever Used Garage Sale for eBay listing, makes life so easy, do it all from your Mac Desktop, don't even go into eBay with your browser, the application does it all, also keeps track all along, upload photos drag & drop from iPhoto, sending template emails to the customer at different stages of the sale, feedback as well as smart template listings, better than ebays, free photo hosting so all your pictures uploaded are free. It's cool. Really good.
  18. Yeah, you know I'm not on about you, I mean the full on retailers that we all know. Wouldn't hesitate to use you again mate. Next time I'm offloading a Del-Larks or even a Casino Classics, no probs :-)
  19. Exactly Pete. I understand if someone wants a quick sale (and he did), but this is my point, he wasn't even getting the very minimum price I reckoned & this was quality stuff. But I suppose that's the world we live in & we should expect that off the professional retailers. I wouldn't use em meself, unless I had a silver topped London issue Darrell Banks.
  20. Makes sense, the idea of offloading a job lot is very convenient, no problems, done it myself to members on here, very happy. It's just a very good friend of mine sold up an uber rare collection to a national dealer (no names), as he was off to Thailand for good, was offered something like 4k for 18ks worth of book price. Real bottom end, and I'm talking bout really really good mint in demand rarities. Don't get me wrong, it's business I know, but seems to me was offered peanuts for the quality he was offering & he took it too :-(
  21. So, what has the cinema turnout been like nationally against the target figures? I mean, will it get rolled out to all screens all towns? Will they brake even/make money? Just interested in what will be considered a commercial success as opposed to critical success. Anyone in the know?
  22. Bet he was offering less than one fifth of book price? I understand the value difference betwen retail against sourcing, but I still reckon you should at least get one quarter of the book price & more for mint/rare. Or am I wrong? I often am.
  23. I loved it. Anyone can pick little holes here & there, but on the whole the detail was very acurate & I think Elaine nailed it, considering everything that had to be compressed into one film. She captured the euphoria of being out on that floor. The casting was excellent, let's be honest, I can really relate to some of his mad mates, we all knew real nut jobs like that, well I did from Warrington anyway, took me right back. If I had to critique just a little, and this is nit picking, not sure the friendliness of the place between mates from all over different towns that would meet up every week was actually captured, a little too dark, it was much more friendly than impression given in real life, but that don't make good viewing I suppose anyway 8/10 from me, good job, well done, loved it. Right, when does the Stafford sequel come out?
  24. Agree, a class tune. What a great label too with Ernest Mosely & Walter & the Admirations. Was la Cindy an independent? Anyone?
  25. Got a spin the one & only time I was at Grumpy, must be last year now, must get back there. Great tune Baz.
