  1. Yeah, forgot about both of those. Massively fast. What about Ral Donner, Don't Let It Slip Away. I actually hated that, even though I think I had a copy, white vinyl if I remenber properly, sounded more like Elvis than soul.
  2. Ron Holden, Forgive & Forget. Paula Durante, If You Were Mine. Peggy March, If You Loved Me. Stemons Express Woman Love Thief. All big, I don't hear any played out much.
  3. I see this going cheap a lot on eBay & always think it was probably worth a lot more then than it is now. Think it may have even been a Russ Spin? But I wouldn't bet on it, don't think its was Richards. Was big for a while, bit weird too.
  4. Wilbur Walton great tune. What about Prinesses & Princesses, Stick Together? or The Jewels, We Got Togetherness, surely that can't get played now? Too bl@@dy fast for a start.
  5. Yeah, I'm sure it's still popular Ian, Too good not to be.
  6. Ivories Please Stay. Was an oldie even in my time, but was big, Don't seem hear it it much, not saying its forgotten, just I don't hear it. Smells of Wigan Casino.
  7. Same here, Dean Anderson played it on his TNT show just the other week.
  8. Ahh,.... Time Won't Let Me, getting mixed up there, Cheers Pete.
  9. Respect your opinion Dave, but kind of disagree cos even if he played half of the same ones every week, where else were you going to hear the likes Gone With The Wind/I don't Like To lose/She's Wanted? You couldn't buy em, no one even knew what most of em were, so that was the only time you were going to hear it back then, in the Casino, on the night. Sometimes I heard him play (Joe Mathews c/u I Don't Like To Lose) three times on the same night, believe me, no one cared as the floor was always jam packed for it.
  10. Wasn't it covered as Bob Segar? Does sound a bit like a white rock record, agree, not very good.
  11. Jesus... what year was this Pete?
  12. Wow, completely forgot bout this, loved it at the time, except it was bit too fast to dance to if I remember. Great record.
  13. Ha, Correct Steve, cheers, I was meaning Vickie Baines not Christine Cooper, as that's what Dickie covered it up as. Of course, these are not forgotten, was just saying. A big one on Pete S's recent list was Ronnie Love, Let's Make Love, wasn't massive but big enough, does that ever get played out I wonder? Bit of soft soul really that probably sounds better today than it did then. Few more big ones I don't hear of lately , to stick to the thread, Rex Garvin Sock It To Yourself & Trade Martin, She Put The Hurt On Me. Do these ever get played out theses days?
  14. Probably the biggest sound @ Wigan in my day along with Cecil Washington (was c/u) & Christine Cooper, maybe Larry Clinton, can't think of any others that were bigger for longer, that's for sure.
  15. What I'd give for a time machine, sometimes I took those days for granted as I knew nothing else every single week, but this was a special time in the history of NS. Makes me melancholic sometimes. Great post Pete.
  16. Sorry guys, must pay more attention to what the thread is actually about, I was just naming my fav tunes I believe to be out of the 100. I'll get me coat!
  17. Little Ann, Sweep It Out In The Shed, great tune too, although I like Tobi Larks too.
  18. Never been to the 100, but have loads of the Kent stuff & Dave Hamilton CDs & love most of it. Got to say, Little Ann, Who Are You Trying To Fool is just, is just a sublime soul record. I'm making presumption it's a 100 club record? Also love One Way Street by the same brilliant lady too.
  19. I've often thought this, but I'd make it special invite only, mind you, all soul-sourcers would get an invite of course, and maybe a free pressing on the door, Speaking of which, I remember when the Ritz dayers used to give away pressings away on the door, I was made up to get a Coasters Crazy Baby once, nice touch that was for a young en like me at the time. Edit: should say, the was Ritz Manchester, not Ritz Brig.
  20. Betty Boo Is a magnificent soul record, still sounds great today as it did in WC back then. I only make the comment about BB because there were no known alternatives, where there are, well that's different subject with OVO and I don't want to get into that.
  21. Well in 78 Betty Boo gets played on the acetate or not at all, because as far as I know it was never previously released until Grapevine, so that's totally acceptable & is in fact the acetate is as good an original as far as I'm concerned, seeing as an original doesn't exist.
  22. Im impressed! This record defines WC for me, although it was covered up in my day. Superbs have got it all for me on this label.
  23. I know, and that's his specialised subject, wouldn't want to know what he has vague knowledge of if that's specialised Mind you, easy to say that when you are not in the hot seat I suppose, I bet you can just freeze up.
  24. I recorded it, so here goes. What the name of former boxer & record store owner who founded Tamla in 59? Which song by Whitfield & Strong gave Gladys Knight a number 2 hit & Marvin a number 1 hit in the following year? Under what name did the Supremes first perform in 59 while they were a sister group to The Temptations? Which song gave the Four Tops their first number 1 in 66? Who co-founded the Marvelettes and sang lead vocals on many of their hits including Beechwood 45789 & Too Many Fish In The Sea? Jackson 5 five first hit on Motown, Berry supervised, number 1 USA & number 2 UK? Who was the former secretary had hits with the Vandellas called love is like a heatwave ? What instrument did Marvin play on Please Mr Postman? Who had a hit with My Guy? Beatle invited her to tour with them? What was Neil Youngs band called that signed for Motown, until lead singer arrested for draft evasion? Which 72 film did Diana Ross receive an Oscar? Who was the record producer that married Berry's sister Gwen and joined Motown in early 60's? What name did Berry give 2648 West Grand Bvld? Displayed on a sign out front? Who replace Eddie Kendricks and Paul Williams as lead singer of Temptations after My Girl till 1968? He got 6 right.
  25. Didn't know that Neil Young ever signed up for Motown, interesting that. That guy in the chair was cr@p, even I got more than him.
