  1. Never really been the greatest fan of instrumentals but one I currently like is the Betty Boo instrumental of Say It isn't So by The Popcorn Orchestra (sounds like a cover up if ever there was one) . I'm my day I suppose Derek & Ray before it's u.k RCA release was a monster.
  2. What do you reckon the Mel Brit is worth today Ted?
  3. Ahh right, that's explains that.
  4. Giving you the love on the flip on SoulCraft thought that was orig??
  5. Hi folks, Just wondering how the vinyl market is actually effected by current economical recession. I mean, are we currently in a trough? Have prices bottomed out? If effected at all maybe it's a good time to be 'hovering up' like the early 80's or maybe it's an ever-changing market regardless anyway? As this is not an exact science I suppose we can only go by privious prices fetched. I see a beaten up Mel Brit on Ebay at the minute that looks like it'll fetch £300+, I suppose this being an iconic & classic tune might be a good benchmark. I've just watched a mint James Dockery My Faith in You go for about £20 surely worth a bit more in years gone by. And then in-demand sounds will go against the flow I suppose & the internet is a game changer too. Just wondering how the market is effected really. Any thoughts?
  6. Don't know if this thread is dead yet. But a few forgotten from wigan that I don't hear today, not saying they don't get spins just that I don't hear them these days. Chapter V. You can't mean it. Garry Haines. Keep on Going. Can't remember how big they were only that I loved them, don't think they were overly spun at the Casino.
  7. Well the picture speaks louder than the words I'd say. I've on the whole been pleased with most of my recent purchases, re;condition as described, bar one Variations on Okeh that resembled a plant pot when it arrived & went straight in the bin.
  8. just come across this as I was perusing t'internet. https://cgi.ebay.com/VOWS-DETROIT-NORTHERN-SOUL-45-V-I-P-25016-HEAR-BOTH-/220826870089?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item336a4ea149#ht_3726wt_1228 Nice tune, but if this is a vg+ then my d@*k's a chocolate biscuit! Takin liberties with a less than conservative grading, don't you think?
  9. Yeah, that's probably true Boba, out of my league those Boba, i know a few serious collectors in Warrington that have probably owned it in their day, I'm just feeling my way back into collecting again after a long absence, I'm on three figures not four when it comes to buying (at the moment at least).
  10. Didn't sell, lovely tune, I think I'd be looking for a Gene Toones or maybe a Cavaliers if were going for Shrine, if I had that kind of disposable to spend on those shiny lilttle black 45's that is, which I don't.
  11. https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290595950939+#ht_500wt_1219 Looks mint, not seen many of these. Way out of my league anyway.
  12. Just out of interest theres a clean one I'm watching on ebay right now, don't know with the protocol on soul-source if it's okay to post the link I will, or message me or I'll put it up (wouldn't mention it but it's out of my budget anyway). Cheers ears Aid.
  13. Not sure about that, I know Betty Wright did a version of Open The Door To Your Heart.
  14. Nice to see young 'cool' people discovering the music. But the stereotyping of 'the scene' (not this article, but many others) I find acutely embarrasing. For example the O'Grady show with Winstanley the other year. It always places empahsis on style over substance, when it's really all about the music If it ever was about the style maybe mid 70's, that lost it's kudos some 30 years ago. But I do wonder about what's going on in the head of the odd stomping muppet in Spencer soul bags stuck in a time warp. It's 2011 let's just move on please.
  15. Just got home, music on Melvin Davis, I'm the one who loves you Phillip Mitchell! Gonna build Calfoniai, Man who needs anything else.
  16. When they make the dance floor part like the Red Sea on your way back from the bar with a hand full of drinks......now that's what I call a great dancer (good title for an album series that!)
  17. Hey Giant, Yeah, but I only drink once a week so I have to get me weeks worth in one go. Yeah, fact, Dickie is starting up Lowton, they going for November first one I believe. You offloaded that Larry Clinton yet?
  18. 2.00 am, the main hall, Richard takes the to the decks, mumbles something in the mike, probably about a Spurs loss (many of those), then on it comes..........the first heart stopping chords of what was then covered up as Joe Matthews (Cecil Washington) for it's first spin (of many) of the night, a stampede ensues to the floor.............what we got for the next few hours?........Larry Clinton, Agents, Delights, Del Capreez (Construction).....soul heaven, happy happy days. Not all gone forever though, had a great night last Saturday Northern Line Warrington, the beat goes onward & upward, mind you I too drunk to really appreciate the music. Also heard some great news, don't know how true, but the above Mr Searling is re-starting the Lowton nights, I'm foaming at the mouth just thinking about it.
  19. For me it always works best when it's melancholy, the shear heartbreak of it, so sometimes makes you feel worse, but you so choose to feel that way & relate the music to personal life experience. Of course Northern can be uplifting too, but works for me best when the opposite happens. But those mistakes & lost loves have more appeal when it comes to soul music. God (& soul fans) loves a loser. Aid.
  20. Heres one for you. What about tunes that just sound similar & just reminds you of a different track even though you know they are not the same, this happens to me a lot. I'll start with one that everytime I heard it reminded me of the other track & my brain connects the two every time I heard them. Tommy Knight Don't Bring Back The Memories. Tommy Hunt, Get Out. Check em out. Tommy Knight. Tommy Hunt
  21. He Lorraine, a question for you. I always noticed that on the Ashford tracks of Eddie's, you were credited as 'supervised by Lorraine Chandler' "Supervised"? was that a way for the label to pay you less than if it was arranged/produced? Just interested. Aid.
  22. What a track El Anthony is, just a monster. Just been over to youtube never heard Tomorrow's Men before, dead same backing track.
  23. I am not worthy! Aid.
  24. Thats it JackDaw, new there was a connection somewhere. Here's another...... Dynamics I need your love on RCA Doni Burdick Candle on Soul King. Cheers ears Aid.
