  1. Not sure about that, I know Betty Wright did a version of Open The Door To Your Heart.
  2. Nice to see young 'cool' people discovering the music. But the stereotyping of 'the scene' (not this article, but many others) I find acutely embarrasing. For example the O'Grady show with Winstanley the other year. It always places empahsis on style over substance, when it's really all about the music If it ever was about the style maybe mid 70's, that lost it's kudos some 30 years ago. But I do wonder about what's going on in the head of the odd stomping muppet in Spencer soul bags stuck in a time warp. It's 2011 let's just move on please.
  3. Bad selling that!
  4. Just got home, music on Melvin Davis, I'm the one who loves you Phillip Mitchell! Gonna build Calfoniai, Man who needs anything else.
  5. When they make the dance floor part like the Red Sea on your way back from the bar with a hand full of drinks......now that's what I call a great dancer (good title for an album series that!)
  6. Hey Giant, Yeah, but I only drink once a week so I have to get me weeks worth in one go. Yeah, fact, Dickie is starting up Lowton, they going for November first one I believe. You offloaded that Larry Clinton yet?
  7. 2.00 am, the main hall, Richard takes the to the decks, mumbles something in the mike, probably about a Spurs loss (many of those), then on it comes..........the first heart stopping chords of what was then covered up as Joe Matthews (Cecil Washington) for it's first spin (of many) of the night, a stampede ensues to the floor.............what we got for the next few hours?........Larry Clinton, Agents, Delights, Del Capreez (Construction).....soul heaven, happy happy days. Not all gone forever though, had a great night last Saturday Northern Line Warrington, the beat goes onward & upward, mind you I too drunk to really appreciate the music. Also heard some great news, don't know how true, but the above Mr Searling is re-starting the Lowton nights, I'm foaming at the mouth just thinking about it.
  8. For me it always works best when it's melancholy, the shear heartbreak of it, so sometimes makes you feel worse, but you so choose to feel that way & relate the music to personal life experience. Of course Northern can be uplifting too, but works for me best when the opposite happens. But those mistakes & lost loves have more appeal when it comes to soul music. God (& soul fans) loves a loser. Aid.
  9. Heres one for you. What about tunes that just sound similar & just reminds you of a different track even though you know they are not the same, this happens to me a lot. I'll start with one that everytime I heard it reminded me of the other track & my brain connects the two every time I heard them. Tommy Knight Don't Bring Back The Memories. Tommy Hunt, Get Out. Check em out. Tommy Knight. Tommy Hunt
  10. He Lorraine, a question for you. I always noticed that on the Ashford tracks of Eddie's, you were credited as 'supervised by Lorraine Chandler' "Supervised"? was that a way for the label to pay you less than if it was arranged/produced? Just interested. Aid.
  11. What a track El Anthony is, just a monster. Just been over to youtube never heard Tomorrow's Men before, dead same backing track.
  12. I am not worthy! Aid.
  13. Thats it JackDaw, new there was a connection somewhere. Here's another...... Dynamics I need your love on RCA Doni Burdick Candle on Soul King. Cheers ears Aid.
  14. That's the very on on Drew. That was starting to annoy me. Cheers ears
  15. Ah, right, cheers for that Pete. My brain is mush too. I seem to remember that Stemmons Express Woman love Thief had a another tune that it was seperated at birth with, but can't for the life of me remember what?
  16. Okay folks, Don't know if this has been done before. Just been listening to The Trips There's that mountain & it's quite obviously the same track/arrangement as Richard Temple's That Beatin' Rhythm. Must be loads of others like this given the way the studios were set up. Anymore anyone? p.s., did i imagine it, or did someone one tell me Richard Temple was in fact one Willie Hutch no less?.........or did I dream it?
  17. I agree Charley, was some crap flying about too (mainly to satisfy the Riker likers in those days) but the majority of it was/is now soulful. And yeah, northern generally got it's own 'detroit' beat, but its 'soul' & I reckon as we all get older (& slower), the soul has come to the forefront over beat. What I don't like is the blurring of borders with doo-wap passing for soul, which personally I can't stand, but thats just me & i thinks it's got a lot to do with the big dealers making more money rather than the demand/music. Aid.
  18. Yeah, I do like this version, I supposed it's classed as 'Island' soul for which there is a big market. Just love it when the sellers advertise the wrong side & it's in excellent cond. Will go to the back of my box for a bit but I'll move it on in the future. Aid.
  19. Sorry Scooternik but that's a mental statement, it maybe a sub-genre, but it's all soul music, bar what Winstanley was spinning late Casino.
  20. The lady above this post is the manifestation of soul music ms L Chandler. The heartbreaking truth of the human condition expressed through music. Aid.
  21. Professionals That's why I love you. Groove City Four Voices Your love is getting stronger (green) Voice Paul Smith I'll Run Jacklyn (got this) Got to have a red issue Larry Clinton while I'm at it. Cheers ears Aid.
  22. Hi Folks, Won the auction & picked up a copy of Benny Latimore's Rain from the Sky on Blade for a mere £22. I am aware there is a very good boot of this, thats why I had to contact about deadwax info & I know it's an original now. Happy boy, this is uber rare. Cheers ears. p.s. books at 6 ton +.
  23. He he, therein is the crux of the problem. As it happens, just had a reply from the seller & it's an original, fingers crossed it escapes the attention of the dealers now. Cheers Aid.
  24. Just a thought to share.Anyone else found themselves with this problem? Don't want to draw attention to a (very desirable) record but need info from the seller. Found a hidden gem (or bootleg) on ebay, seller clearly doesn't know what he has on his hands, as he's advertised the wrong side & he's selling a kinds of junk (or he just might if it's a boot), but need to ask questions about the deadwax info so as to qualify it as an original. Any tips on best way to play it? I've been in this situation a few times now. Anyway, as it happens I've just sent my questions directly to seller, but not sure if played it right to be honest, I'll be gutted if he goes and checks up on the disk as susses it's value. Thoughts welcome. Cheers ears Aid.
  25. Shame that, cos it would work well straight from tv box into amp/speakers controlled with iPad, still, it's got a YouTube app, so plenty of Northern on that.
