  1. It's all relative, even I know that this Sex Pistols on A&M is highly collectable & rare as hens teeth. Stick a copy of Mellow Souls or red issue Larry Clinton up for auction, both those will trump that SP single. Can't generalise on genre trends based on one or two sales.
  2. Good call enchantedrythm, Love, Love, Love is the essence of NS in a bottle, not bad for a white guy. I'm not saying these are the best only that these represent the very essence of what NS is for me or what I grew up on at least (my tastes have changed now but these are the NS standards & fill me with a thousand memories & never fail to stir my emotions imo) From my pre/ & Casino Days & are standards in any set: Major Lance You Don't Want Me No More. Herbert Hunter I Was Born To Love You. Chubby Checker You Just Don't Know. Lorraine Chandler I Can't Change. Eddie Parker I'm Gone. My essential listening these days (digitally of course, ain't got that kind of money for this quality vinyl) , I believe my tastes have changed but still contains the very same essence of the music I love. Age Of Bronze I'm Gonna Love You. Roy Alston, Something Ain't Right. The Festivals, Hey Girl Chico Lamaar, What Do You Think I Am. Ollie Jackson, Wipe Away The Tear Drops. Freddie Butler, Save Your Love For Me.
  3. I'd say Otis Leavill fits into the some category Darrow Fletcher & most named above.
  4. Top play, caught it at Lowton, was nice to see some of the cast enjoying the music later on too, life imitates art.
  5. I have mixed feeling on this legislation. Not many of my musical heroes from Detroit or Chicago from the mid to late sixties will gain a penny from this new ruling, for one thing, most of them signed it all away for a one fee at the time anyway, I'd be willing to bet on that. I can't help but feel the big gainers will be the multinationals companies like Disney & Warner Bros or Mick Jagger/Paul McCartney, people who need & deserve it the least. This is a monopolized industry that's down on it's knees due to new technology/media & should be looking for new ways to stream & rightly share deserved artistic revenues, not preserve it's old failing ways. Cheers Aid.
  6. It was always the main hall for me, well at least until Dickie had finished his set, then off into M's. I can still see Brian Rae sat at the decks & dropping the tunes over his belly & onto the turntable, my abiding memory from M's is......Garnett Mimms Looking For You. Aid.
  7. Love Frank Popp, can't believe they are from Central Europe, think I like their YBGTL better than Ann Sexton's. Aid.
  8. In 1978 I bought a Don Varner on Quinvy in the record bar at Wigan, yes you guessed it, bootleg, thought it was original. Paid a fiver, doh!..... In my defense, the guy was a well known big seller & had a box full of rare gems & this was lurking at the back, still got the pressing today, a tribute to my foolish youth, I'll never let it go. A mate of mine still takes the p@ss with the tear stained face thing, the irony of the title is not lost on him, makes me laugh every time. Aid
  9. Bloody heck... Thought it was much higher than that. If I was buying & mint Gene Toones or Chico Lamaar (which I won't be) I'd take the hit on the import tax, otherwise, take my chances that the disks gets to me in one piece tax free.
  10. Hi folks, What is the threshold for an imported record to become liaible for import tax? I've never been hit with this, don't know if I've not been liable or just lucky in the way my records were dispatched, mind you, I've never paid more than low hundreds in my life. Got to say, although I wouldn't knowingly avoid any taxes due (cough cough), I would certainly think twice in the first place about making a purchase that's gonna cost me 25% more on my doorstep. Good job I'm a cheapstake & got a good eye for a bargain, others call it tight. Cheers Aid.
  11. I think the key is quality, not quantity, I'm in the northwest, this month there is a Wigan anniversary thingy in Wigan & a Tommy Hunt thing in Preston & a one off Lowton thing all on the same bloody night, that ain't right. I'm not a doom merchant though, as the rare soul gets better & always something new to discover, easy to get our own 'tiredness' mixed up with the big picture, always gonna have good & bad venues, I just happy Dickie Searling starting Lowton nights, cos that's gonna rule the northwest, so the futures bright IMO. But the promoters keep shooting themselves in the foot & missing tricks, but nothing new there then.
  12. Like most of us I suspect, I've seen Edwin a few times but one concert that stands out in my mind, is an event that never took place. Betty Wright was booked to play at an all-dayer Ormskirk Civic Hall circa mid 70's, but the event was cancelled & so it never happened. I was gutted at the time, always wondered why that event was cancelled on the very occasional bank holiday venture to Southport as i pass the venue. A bit later down the line & a bit less Northern but Earth Wind & Fire at Stafford Bingley hall late 70's was sublime.
  13. Great post, love that jukebox thing, Not Me Baby, what a tune........love it, love it, love it.
  14. Always loved JJ Barnes How Long, remember, writing a request to get it played by a dj, think he was called Nick Cowan on local Radio (Lancashire or Merseyside can't remember) he had a 10 minutes slot in the evening midweek, must have been the first northern radio slot ever, circa 77ish. Anyway he played it, I was a spotty teen & made up.
  15. A few nice auctions here, condition not great on the Jimmy Mack, but don't really see up for grabs too often. https://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160642531638+#ht_591wt_1219 and this one, love this, didn't know it was from as late as 74 which surprised me, this one is rare. https://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160642584640+#ht_500wt_1219 just posting these up cos they caught my eye & purely out of interest, hope I'm not peeving anyone off by doing so. Cheers ears Aid.
  16. Ahh right, okay Pete, thought I was Columbo for a minute there, I'll stick to me day job.
  17. I'm only putting 2 & 2 together mind, but how else are you gonna get Rubin on a national t.v. campaign for cat food, other than the director's Elaine Constantine & clearly into Northern?
  18. Yes indeed it looks as if it was her as she's done some commercials for Purina cat food.
  19. Don't know that she did, just wondered has she has done t.v commercial work. https://www.outsider.tv/
  20. Wonder if this is this Elaine Constantine same person who had Rubin's You've Been Away, on the Cat Food add??
  21. Or for 3.00am feed time, Johnny Gilliam, Room full of tears, he he, sorry, I'll get me coat.
  22. How about Johnny Hendley, My Baby Came From Out Of Nowhere!
  23. Sorry Ted, was in sellers other items. https://www.ebay.com/itm/170687137404?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_1506wt_922 Didnt sell.
  24. The Jackie Day sold for $2000 = £1,200, take away the sellers fees & he has let that go for a grand.
