  1. Just had a quick look on wiki, looks like wasn't involved with Crazy Baby, think joined them later on. Aid
  2. What a voice he had, I presume he was lead singer with the The Coasters on Crazy Baby?? But I wouldn't know for sure & a lot of my presumptions are wrong.
  3. Hey Gary, should mention that I was off the scene for 20 years or so after Wigan, with would explain why I seem to be the only person north of the equator that doesn't know it. Giant void for me to fill. Cheers Aid.
  4. What's that on Capital or Warner?
  5. Hey Bahaar, Well was only familiar with Dr Love to honest, this track has escaped my attentions, just love it. Quality. Aid.
  6. Couple of things just wanted to mention in passing. I see a Jimmy Burns made £3,800 on the JM's auctions, wow. Second point, can't stop playing Bobby Sheen's Something New To Do, what a fooooking tune this is. Hold my hands up, I've never heard it before & what a buzz it is to find a track I just wanna play & play over again, didn't know I had such a modern taste, end of the day, this IS soul music. Does this get played out these days? Cheers ears Aid.
  7. 5th price guide.....don't you use original guides only?
  8. Hey Rob, a gang of us from Warrington went down the Pier in Colwyn Bay once, Sam was on & spinning some s*hit rare stuff of the day, we had a great time, top venue, we knew two locals girls who were our mates from Colwyn Bay who we used to meet at WC every single week, pretty sure we'd been to an alnighter the night before too or maybe it was a Dayer the next day, can't remember now, but anyway, we had a really great time down there, if you were promoting you did a sterling job mate, happy days. Aid.

  10. This one's easy for me, got to DUKE BROWNER, he wins hands down for me. Dena Barnes If you ever, Jock Mitchell not a chance, all the Volumes stuff. He's top dog for me. Oh, & nearly forgot Crying Over You. Cheers ears Aid.
  11. He was always on the cutting edge, hadn't heard him for over 25 years until he was guesting at Lowton a couple of years back, his set blew me away although I didn't know many/any, but the tunes/vibe was something else. Used to hear him regular back in the late 70's, remember him spinning Jimmy Burns way before it ever got a run out at Wigan. The scene certainly needs mavericks like him thats for sure. Aid.
  12. William Powell is pure class mate. Carol Fredricks Couldn't care less, now that's cr@p & goes for a bob or two. Aid.
  13. https://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130597903601+#ht_500wt_1219 Here's an interesting auction, the seller clearly doesn't know what he has. For some strange reason ( & Lord knows why), I'm pretty sure that the flip to this is a cut of The Arabians Let Me Try. Obviously I would have kept it quiet & bid myself, although only a vg, at $12 a snip, but not keen on this track myself, but deffo worth more than this. Does anybody know why this cut ended up on the flip?.......the strange world of Northern Soul indeed. Cheers ears Aid.
  14. That turntable will cost you about £400 grand believe it or not. Okay shinehead, got to admit, like this is a good looking cd player.
  15. Come on shine head, when was a cd player ever as good as this......... https://www.higherfi.com/ttlist/AVdesignhaus.jpg
  16. If I get six numbers up tonight, I'll let you know
  17. Yeah nice price, but if it does what it says on the tin! Look what you pay for a new Linn Sondek these days.
  18. Just noticed that de-clicker thingybob product they are about to launch too, suppose eliminate noise, I've got a few beaten up -vg's that would put it to the test, wonder if it works?
  19. Wow! never seen one of these before, theres nothing quite like a normal turntable, but quite like idea of this, I bet the more delicate styrene records would like it too (assuming inanimate objects have emotions ). Anyone ever come across one before? https://www.elpj.com/ Aid.
  20. I understand, being younger, that it doesn't really bother you what went on in the old days, but I was too young for Blackpool/Stoke/wolves etc, but I fully respect the roll it played in my love of soul music today. Wigan kept the scene alive not killed it. I dont think you are getting the vast scale of this venue's influence on the culture & we are talking packed to the rafters every single Saturday night, not once a month & it's reach was truly national, which in turn layed the ground work for pretty much everything else that has happened on the scene since, good & bad & with out which, you can bet your bottom dollar the scene could almost have been lost. It cleared the way for everything else, Just like Blackpool & Wolverhampton did for Wigan. It wasn't even a sub culture anymore, it became almost mainstream (which turned a lot off I know). You also have to take into account that over its eight years or so, there were different era's within that too. As for the music, yeah, once the money men sniffed a buck, they/some sold its soul, especially in the later years, but great soul was dicovered later on too. It's Wigan's influence that makes it so important, you could write a book alone, just on the fantastic soul that has been forgotten never mind that we all know. Thats the thing that strikes me, even through the most commercial years, going to an allnighter, you'd come home in the morning hearing some of the best soul ever at some point during the night. Aid.
  21. I think your are probably right there Chalky, but I suspect Marvin would have had the longevity over the decades, had his not met that shocking & tragic end, his great album Midnight Love had revived his career, he had sorted his personal demons out & was back at the top, he for one had the charisma, talent & pure soul, he had the lot, but like I say we'll never know now.
  22. The original poster is right, but sounds like an idealist to me, in the real world, life is not like that, people wanna hear what they wanna hear. Putting it all into one pot just it just spreads it too thinly (I love mixing metaphors ) Just my opinion. Aid.
  23. Yeah Spacehopper, think I saw that on Sky Arts, is that the one with Elvis Costello interviewing Smokie & also The Funkbrothers were in the house? how cool was smoke though?? He's still got it for sure.
  24. Who could argue with that Lorraine. copied to death, even a certain Elvis Presley would agree with you there. It's a Poor Dog Who Can't Wag His Own Tail!. Aid
  25. Got to say, I've always had this vision. End of ceremony, wooden box moves in for the burn, then............. Looney Tunes theme kicks in....da da da da, da da da da, da da, da da, da da da daaaaaaa!!!! Curtain shuts,.....THAT'S ALL FOLKS!. Way to go. Aid.
