  1. Wow Pete, I'm impressed, especially as its a U.K. seller, don't do too badly do you? Seen your other post, picking a Johnny Guitar Ray up in a shop Derby. Love hearing stuff like that. Cheers Aid.
  2. Have just give this a spin, lovely laid back tune from Jimmy and Frank Bryant. Just love the background strings. Aid.
  3. One the first records I ever bought was Betty Wright Where Is The Love. Think mine was on a U.K RCA if memory serves. Record long gone, but still love it. Aid.
  4. Agree Velvet Satins not dance friendly, think it's just down to the timing of the beat. Another like that at Wigan, was Charlie Gracie, He'll Never Love You Like I do, not a soulful record, quite poppy in fact, but at the time, I always thought dancing to it was neigh on impossible. Like wise, a brilliant record, but can't found it difficult to get the beat is Pat Powdrllls Do It, too fast for an old git like me that one. Aid.
  5. Wow, Mortonette/Jodie, Don't You Care Anymore is an absolute classic, My Casino years encapsulated in one fantasticic tune. Just like Ms L Chandler on this site, it's an honour to talk to you. Thank you for that great record. Aid. X
  6. I enjoyed the show, Betty Wright was great & putting it into perspective, she's not that we'll known outside the soul fraternity this side of the pond & she showed her talents to the mainstream. Being watching this show on NYE for years, deffo a more r&b slant this days, not so long it was all indie/obscure/rock based, while still diverse, r&b/soul at an all time high in the mainstream at the minute. We can probably thank Amy, Adele & all that white pseudo soul stuff, etc etc, but whatever reason, black music in in a purple patch. Long may it continue, but just the flavour of the day for the main record industry, who'd drop it like a ton of bricks to make a buck. Still, can't complain cos that was great last night. Aid.
  7. Think maybe I like the instrumental better Ian, that sax break is something else. Aid.
  8. A.C Reed, My Baby's Been Cheating..........with Jody. Top tune. Aid.
  9. You've been gone too long........he's was on bl*ody tour of duty serving his country. She's a 'bad en' Ann Sexton is.
  10. Back too original post, Northern Soul taught me,....... when I lost interest & got into 'indie' very late 70's, not to give a box full of originals to your older brother & not even be arsed about what happened to them (god they were all gems). Don't touch barbiturates, from witnessing close friends die & in not such worse case, ruin there lives. To feel the love of beautiful people, for that I"m eternally thankful Aid.
  11. Yeah funny that, always wondered about that........Jody got your girl and gone.....stuff, reckon it's some kind on southern parochialism slang, Seventy Seven from Texax and Muscle Shoals all southern based stuff, like to here the story on this too. Aid.
  12. Agree with Pete, Tomangoes older than the Pyramids would have thought. (don't mean Soul Bros Inc :-) Aid.
  13. Garnett Mimms Prove It To Me on UA. Gave this a spin last night, what a quality soul record, paid $6 for a mint copy, great tune IMO. Does this ever get played out anymore anyone? Aid.
  14. Anyone ever seen a demo? Must fetch a tidy sum, popsike only got issues. Aid.
  15. Deffo first spun by RS as Joe Mathews, usually opened his set with it more often than not, possibly biggest tune in my years, although Country Girl & Hey Little Way Out Girl would run it close for filling the floor. A guy turned up at Parr Hall Warrington with 5 mint copies to flog mid eighties. Aid.
  16. Second one is Ollie Jackson, Wipe Away The Teardops. Aid.
  17. Yeah, good spot that, I'm sure he's not swearing, but doesn't half sound like it. Nice tune, love the Mr Soul track, What Happened To Yesterday, the horns are just so irristable & soulful. Aid.
  18. Celeste Hardie You're Gone. Just gave it a spin, what a stinking great tune that is. A copy on Reynolds would be a lovely record to own, not like my soul bowl release . Cheers ears Aid.
  19. What a top top Northern Soul track. Aid.
  20. Hey man, I'm a digital/graphic artist by trade (mostly working for a large fizzy drinks corp), as a favour, I'm pretty sure I could run you something cool up next you've got a promotion on, what do you supply the printer, Photoshop/illustrator files? Aid
  21. I stand corrected, I was under the impression this was indeed The Arabians, don't know why, think I"d read it somewhere, I live & lean anyway. Aid.
  22. Don't think it beats that Pete, but a good mis pressing is a disk by Billy Jo Burnette On Gold Standard, which actually has The Arabians Let Me Try. Aid.
  23. Got to say pleasantly surprised, same old same old tunes, but that okay cos this was aimed at the unconverted I suppose. Liked the way it ended with the Epitome thing & also a little bit about 100 club moving the scene on with younger people. Only slight criticism if any, not actually enough about the rare soul, and all the great rare soul still to be discovered & where that can take the scene forward. Also it's not all amphet fuelled uptempo anymore, more soulful & chilled now,no one doing backdrops & splits anymore like they made sound, but all in all, not bad at all I'd say, cos I was expecting worse. Aid.
  24. Well my expectations are low, yet to be impressed with any mainstream broadcast about Northern Soul, in 40 odd years, the writing was on the wall with 'This England' and it's no better today, throw Pete Waterman into the mix & that compounds it for me, hope I wrong. I do remain hopeful with the Elaine Constantine thing though. Aid.
  25. Don't think anyone would doubt the quality of soul here, the vocal, the strings, even love that label, but it just gets so tidious after 30 odd years, although would still own an original with pride of place if I had one. Aid.
