Wow, great read that article. Can't believe some people don't even wait to be asked before dancing, its simply outrageous. Super article, thanks for posting. Aid.
  3. Yeah I know, maybe might get a part as a cloakroom attendant, a dab hand with raffle tickets me :-). To be honest, just looking forward to the session afterwards, should be a good fun day anyways, can't wait. Aid.
  4. I'm going, can't wait, nice little session lined up after filming too, which I'm most looking forward to, should be a good day, hoping to get me kipper on the silver screen, next stop L.A he he. Aid.
  5. Don't know if it's any help to you Bob but they released a track called The Metropolitan on Alco 1006. Aid.
  6. It just my opinion, but I love Johnny Caswell, even after a thousand times. Like Tommy Navarro too, not sure how soulful it is, but still love it just the same. To each their own. Aid.
  7. Ha ha, yeah bit of a pub singer song that Paris Blues (I do like it though) This has go straight in at number one for best Nothern pub singer song awards. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1fpHwWpqG60 Aid
  8. it's a funny one this, cos there's 'overrated', which I presume, we mean, we just don't get it at all. But equally, there's records you hear, that you used to like, or even love, you don't hear them for a while & they sound cr@p, or vice versa. But anyways, heres a couple of mine for what its worth & my criteria is, I just don't get em (but know everyone else seems to love em), so I'm not saying they are cr@p, just don't see the fuss, just my opinion mind: BOB & FRED I'll Be On My Way, I'm sorry, but I struggle to even see this as soul music. ARIN DEMAIN Silent Treatment, now I used to like this years ago, but two minutes of it gives my a migraine now & I lose the will to live when I hear it. I realise I could be committing sacrilege here, so I say again, its just IMO. Aid.
  9. This intro takes some beating, especially played out full blast. Aid.
  10. That gazoo thingy at the start always makes me burst out laughing, it's just not right, keep expecting a Goons sketch to kick in. Aid.
  11. Satintones Angel on Stripy Motown is a tuff one I think. Aid.
  12. Don't know if already been mentioned but Ernest Mosely, Stubbern Heart, great opening notes. For an opening to a slow one I like Tony Clarke, Wrong Man & for just a classic Northern tune the Shane Martin I need you takes some beating. Aid
  13. From the old days, Constuction, Hey, Little Way Out Girl. Stuff I'm listening to these days, for a great intro, Brook Brothers, Looking For A Woman, the start is just so cool IMO. Aid.
  14. The Springers Nothing's Too Good For My Baby. Jackie Beavers Need My Baby. Parakeets Love You Like I Do Vince Apollo I Bear Witness. Aid.
  15. Heres one on now to illustrate my point (obviously I'm not going to get involved, I wouldn't have posted the link otherwise) in point, fairly rare record here I think, rare label (Bob will confirm rarity?), does't come up too often, the seller has mis-spelled the title 'U' & leading with a title & picture from the weaker side, currently $10 as I post with an hour to go. https://www.ebay.com/...9 #ht_500wt_985 Aid. p.s. this is a good seller too who usually knows what he's doing, I've had a few from him.
  16. Can you remember the best one you've picked up on a mis-listed auction Bob? Worth checking b sides me thinks, especially when you know the label. Aid.
  17. Ah right, The Americans, that's it, cheers ears Aid.
  18. Did I read somewhere that was Jay was Jay Traynor? Or did I dream that? Aid.
  19. Had me eye on this since last week, advertiser got it down a Doo-Wop record with a picture of the b side. Aha, perfect....me thinks, a chance to pick this up for a sneaky/cheap price...... thinks not, the bidders coming in now, no flies on soul record collectors is there? I'm mean Doo-Wop, makes a change from the sellers advertising actual Doo-Wop records as Northern, which is usually the way on evil-bay. https://www.ebay.co.u...9#ht_500wt_1156 Aid. Forgot to add, anyone else picked up any little gems that were advertised as something completely different?
  20. Funky edged soul, I'm not very good at these definitions, does Donald Byrd Dominos fit the bill? Or is that jazzy/edged soul? Whatever that is. Aid.
  21. She died of AIDS how sad & tragic is that, she was also in a big hit sitcom in the 70s in the U.S. called 'Rhoda'. Aid
  22. Hi Mark, think I mislead you a bit mate, Berlin (behind Spin Inn Records in Manchester) was a club. Great music, more Latin jazz in those days to be honest. Aid
  23. Personally not too keen on a lot of it, especially the 70's stuff, maybe a few Northern ones like The Constellations I Don't Know About You. I personally like the stuff I got into after I stopped going to Wigan, In the early eighties Colin Curtis was playing some sublime stuff in (Berlin Manchester), although moving over to jazz in those days, Tania Maria, Lonnie Liston Smith, Ronnie Laws. Some of the dance stuff at the time in was great too, D Train, Change all that stuff too. Just love this, still stands up today as 'real' funky soul imo. Sharron Redd R.I.P. Aid.
  24. Great Podcasts Chalks, great to see the Parr Hall pictures on your site too, only went a few times as was generally off the scene at that time doing other things (drinking & smoking too much), shame really as I live there, you may know some old friends & serious collectors Geoff Whitfield & Geoff Boardman from Warrington?? Aid
  25. Don't know if it's the book you are on about but I'd recommend Neil Rushton's Northern Soul Storys, really enjoyed. Off subject but my mrs is reading that 50 shades book, I'm really going to enjoy that :-) Aid.
