  1. Hey Barry, Reckon the Colwyn Bay niter would have been 79 at a guess, could have been earlier, wouldn't argue about the date. I distinctly remember Jimmy Burns getting a spin, when it wasn't mainstream at Wigan, cos I knew as I had it on a Manship tape & non of the Wigan jocks had it yet at that time. I was amazed at Sams Playlist at that time. Could be wrong, but also think Inspirations Your Wish Is My Command too, that also wasn't getting spins at Wigan at that time. Cheers ears Aid.
  2. No worries Bob, Turns out, maybe you were right Did you see that Magnetics Count The Days acetate going thought yesterday? Condition was a bit suspect to say the least, nice record though. Aid.
  3. Thanks for that literal explanation of the workings of an auction site Bob, that really clears things up for me . Did always think it was mega rare though, clearly I was wrong with that as my mate Giant points out. Great, great tune anyways. Aid.
  4. Love this one, blasting out on my hi-fi sounds amazing. On a more traditional northern sound then reckon this has a got a nice latin beat. Aid. Aid.
  5. Asked Richard about a book, said that the research & pictures were the biggest hassle because of time factors. My impression was that a book wasn't imminent, sort of project for the future. Aid.
  6. Little Tommy Baby Can't You See on Sound Of Soul Two of these up for auction within a couple of days of each other. What's all that about then? Aid.
  7. Missed last Friday Agent....unfortunately. Can't wait for Nov though. When is the next Grumpy Soul then, that's a deffo from me & a few of my mates? Aid.
  8. I'll echo all the Searling posts, unbeatable for me. Another great set was Soul Sam at Colwyn Bay Pier niter, fantastic set & he 'out did' was was 'current' at 'massive' at Wigan at the time I seem to remember. Recently best set I've heard is Bob Hinsley, he just does it the right way, every time. Best non-soul set was probably Paul Oakenfold's Stone Roses Spike Island gig at lunchtime, although we were on the 'narcs' early that day, I'd run a mile these days. Aid.
  9. Great show Pete. Off work today & just preparing family dinner to this podcast in the kitchen. Some great tracks That Pee Wee Shuck & Huey is a killer. Also lovin the Diane Lewis. Good job man. Aid.
  10. Saying that, I think that Wall Of Sound track went for a few quid in the late seventies when Richard was spinning it, maybe not big money but £40 or £50 back then, which is probably what you can pay today? Aid.
  11. Love that record, recently shifted mine. Great great vocal. Aid.
  12. Not sure to be honest Pete, I presumed he was talking about the RCA's ( i thought all the acetates were 10"), but he could have meant Wylies I suppose. Aid.
  13. I was chatting to Richard about the Betty Boo acetate last night. He says there is actually (only) one 7' Betty Boo acetate out there. Now that would be a nice one to own. Aid.
  14. Not me, but a mate of mine recently told me this story, this would have been in the 70's, had just acquired a mint demo of Vyonne Baker's You Didn't Say A Word on Parkway, apparently, a lad he knows asked him if could he would take it out of his bag & look at it, as he got it in his hands, he somehow turned & walked straight into a lampost with it, smashed it in two, my mate Jeff said he could have wept. Aid.
  15. Only for three days. Aid
  16. Now thats confused me a bit, because I thought they finished early 70's, apparently not as James Nelson is 78' I see. Aid.
  17. What a great little label this was. Just been reading a bit about Len Jewells LA based label. Looking at the discography on this site. https://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/teride.htm Looks like they only output 11 records, including one of my all time favourites Jimmy Gresham. Just wondered if numbers 008 & 009 ever did turn up anywhere? If they did, what price those?? Aid.
  18. Thanks for posting those Chalks. Work very well on the iPad. What a great snapshot of the scene at that time too. I think a lot of his opinions are still valid today for the scene moving forward. Great reading that. Aid.
  19. Popsike has one sold in June for $320. Nice track, I have it from the excellent 'Across The Board' series of cds. Aid.
  20. Garnett Mims, Prove It To Me United Artists (I think?), pick it up for less than a tenner, great record. Ive seen a few Exits, Under The Street Lamp, Gemini for less than £50, great record to own that, although I prefer Sundown In Watts, but thats a tad steeper. Aid.
  21. Agree, very atmospheric in that big main hall, something a bit different from the norm of the day I'd say. Brian Rae offered one to my mate for a tenner in 79, my mate didn't bother as is wasn't a minter, mistake that me thinks. Aid.
  22. Thinking about it, this was a very slow track for the Casino at a time of ampet - 100 mph based stompers. Still real quality in my opinion, love this & a Taj Mahal track that I can't remember the title of. AId. Pete??
  23. Great tune, really loved this track in the day. Aid.
  24. There was token gesture to Stoke, someone called someone else 'Duck'. Which I presume is a parochial term of endearment. What's the thing with birds in those terms of endearments? In Edinburgh I've heard them say 'Hen', In Warrington we say 'Cock' (I know!). Sure there is loads more. Aid
  25. The acetate went for £609. Aid
