  1. Get a bit fitter, alcohol & other vices a bit less, come to terms with my mortality, loathe things that are out of my control a bit less, love the things that are in my control a bit more. And........ exhale...... Best wishes everyone. x
  2. Yeah, there were lots of girlie tunes late 70's wasn't there? Thinking of stuff like GERRI THOMAS, LOOK WHAT I GOT, PEGGY MARCH, IF YOU LOVE ME or even PAULA DURANTE'S IF YOU WERE MINE, all big floor fillers, the place was certainly in touch with it's feminine side at that time. All the real manly hard edged vocals seemed to have been from earlier, you know the stuff, Del Larks, Don Varner, even Johnny Sayles, REAL MAN SOUL, the soul equivalent to Steak & Chips as opposed to Smoked Salmon Blini's
  3. R.I.P. Deepest condolence goes out to family & friends. Aid.
  4. Manship website gone down on me! Anyone else? Edit: back now, it's probably just getting battered with hits.
  5. Apologies if it's been posted, but what about WAKEFIELD SUN, TRYPT ON LOVE.
  6. Just noticed that IDLTL is cracked! Don't know how anyone could fork out a grand or so for a cracked copy, what you reckon Ted, mental?
  7. I see a copy of IDLTL going on evil-bay this evening, with 66 bids already it'll fetch a tidy sum no doubt. But the seller has another interesting record, this by The Dimensions, looks very interesting to me, I don't know it, but it's produced by Cecil himself. Anyone familiar? https://www.ebay.com/itm/390997607024
  8. When's someone gonna do a definitive guide as to who broke what and where records were first played? Suppose that would divide a lot of opinions too, but that'd be really good.
  9. I never doubt you Pete. Just always thought MVP's a Wigan tune, suppose that'd be down to the This England thing maybe I just wrongly presumed. Shane Martin Mecca too?
  10. You not wrong Uptite. Colin Curtis did a set @ Lowton, was surprised to hear MVP's was first spun at Blackpool?? Is that right? Quite a lot of others in his set surprised me too, the highlight for me being The Moment's Nine TImes, which has Blackpool stamped all over it, great tune IMO. Not to worry though, the list of tunes that WERE broke at Wigan is longer than the Magna Carta.
  11. Edit: BBC link already posted elsewhere.
  12. Great stuff Pete, keep it up. Surprised to Paul Anka in with that lot, I'm surprised it went back that far?
  13. Joe Tex, Better Believe It. This was massive for a short while. Never liked it personally, was big, don't know if it's forgotten or not to be honest?
  14. There's certainly both good & bad on this one. Would like the good ones more, nothing better than re-discovering a great sound that's long gone. Speaking of which, Long Gone, Debbie Flemming just came into my head? Before my time, but was a big sound of the day? My trouble is, don't know what gets spun and doesn't around the country.
  15. Yeah, don't dissagree to be honest, was a biggie for a short time though Pete.
  16. Here's one you don't (well I don') hear these days. Rufus Lumley, I'm In Love Again. This was spun by the top order DJs surprised to see it going for $30 on popsike on Skyscraper (Cameo-Parkway), I'll wager this disk fetched a tidy sum back in the day…
  17. Think you have to divide up the decades. If you look at the 70s, then mods had very little to do with the shaping of Northern Soul & Wigan Casino, mod involvement was minimal at best until towards the end of the decade & the revival that Quadraphia brought. Obviously going back to the 60s, then that's a completely different story, going back & the R&B/black music Allnighter scene that first evolved, say at The Flamingo & elsewhere. I personally think the mod involvement is overrated & not as close as people like to associate the two, but that's probably because of my age & I grew up at Wigan, but if I was say, going to the Wheel late 60s, then I suspect the ties would be considered a lot closer. For me, Wigan Casino era is not tied to mods very much at all, other than 60s legacy.
  18. Ah, cross wires then, sorry. Pat Powdrill always a favourite of mine.
  19. Great record, didn't realise went back that far Pete. Bit too fast for the dance floor these days, but certainly is a quintessential Northern Soul track. In fact, my mate has a Downey minter sat in his box 'doing nowt' that's gonna be on my radar next time I see him. This record has everything IMO.
  20. Dean Courtney, Love You Just Can't Walk Away.
  21. Watch Out Girl, The Embers.
  22. Yeah I know Steve, both got loads of hammer didn't they?
  23. Precisions, Such Misery. While this is what I'd call a real oldie (so I don't know if it was first spun @ Wigan), a real clapper & got some hammer from loads of different DJs @ Wigan all the time I was going, really associate this.
  24. Charlie Gracie, He'll Never Love You Like I Do. This was really big for a short time.
  25. Joy Lovejoy, In Orbit. Not forgotten but what a tune.
