  1. Think I did mate, sorry bout that, I'll try & chill out a bit, seems I've been highly stung this week, obviously not having enough wine me thinks. Aid.
  2. Okay, Fair doos, Jocko, rather like North Korea will be doing shortly, I'll stand down in a face off. You have explained yourself well, I think I picked up the wrong tone in your original post & maybe I was a tad sensitive. Happy to debate any day of the week, and I take that pint off you one day. Aid.
  3. Wow, Parr Hall Warrington, gonna try & catch that. Ain't No Big Thing..............What a monster monster soul record that is. Aid.
  4. Id say Gamble & Huff/Liebre & Stoller more than hold thier own with any of the above, except possibly Barcharach, even thats close run. Try reading my original post before jumping in feet first on the back of an uptight Jocko.. Aid.
  5. Hey Jocko. Get off your high horse. I only commented that I respect his songwriting skills, which I do. I actually prefer Harrison as a songwriter to be honest (thinking of 'Something' or 'I'm only Sleeping) But I digress, I'm no Beatlephile, I just made a generic comment. As of my actually quoted examples, I used Leiber & Stoller & Gamble & Huff, which I stand by. As for the writers you quoted, so what? we could sit here all day listing them, I not say they aren't any better, but success wise they don't touch the ones I quoted (and thats the context of my original post,) by a country mile. Freebasing is for general & non soul comment as far as I know, so just what's your problem? Take your blinkers off. Aid.
  6. He didn't have to do that. Well done that man. I suppose McCartney is like marmite for a lot, but I respect his song writing & certainly in the top three song writing pairs of all time. probably along with Lieber & Staller or Gamble & Huff IMO. (obviously can't include Holland-Dozier-Holland cos that makes trios people). Aid.
  7. It's not for me, but I know a lad sold at 23rd September 1st Anniversary patch for a £100 at Lowton a few years back, that raised my eyebrow. Aid. Edit: should add, could have been 3rd anniversary or something, can't remember which exactly, but you get the point.
  8. I can take or leave modern personally. I like some of the Stafford stuff, Soul Bros Inc for example. But for me, early 80's mainstream club music, the stuff coming out of speakers in every good jazz/funk club in the land beats what we term 'modern' today, hands down anyway, Sharon Redd, Beat The Street, Patrice Russian Haven't You Heard, Fatback Band etc etc. Now this ain't modern soul, its just soul end of, and nothing elitist about it too, its all mainstream stuff. A golden age for the vinyl 12", post disco. Aid. Edit: Change, Searching, D Train, Your'e the one for me, Shalamar There It Is, Sharon Brown, Specialise In Love, Eveyln Champayne King, Love Come Down, tons & tons of it, you know the stuff I'm on about. Keep remembering more great stuff, New Jersey Connection, Love Don't Come Easy, superb. Adi.
  9. Great footage there Dave, What an absolute stunning beauty she was too. When I read about her substance dependancy & the way her life ended I could almost weep. Aid.
  10. Just heard 'You Know How To Love Me' on Kev Roberts Solar Radio. Not heard the full 12" remix for years, what a timeless superb record this is from 79. So I just wikipedia'd her career & was sad to learn she committed suicide. Such a shame & what a great talent she was & she had worked with the best in her career, Gamble, Huff, Grover Washington Jr, Lonnie Liston Smith. Such a sad shame her life ended that way. AId.
  11. This is in E condition, just wonder what's it gonna fetch then, I only know of two others, in ' not great' condition. I'd break the bank for this (if I could). Aid.
  12. Wow, I'm green with envy of whoever acquires this treasure of a disc. Aid.
  13. Sometimes, you hear some mad lyrics, and you just have to laugh. Example of one I've just been listening to, BIG DADDY ROGERS, I'M A BIG MAN (MIDAS). 'I'm gonna take you to the woodshed, & drop a couple of planks on you'. Great record, but what's all that about then? Any more, anyone? Just a bit of fun. Aid.
  14. Hey Bahar, how's it going? I know you've let a few 'good un's' go in your time. Nice one to own that, a minter that is. Aid.
  15. Answers me questions as to values. Didnt post a link because its appearing in the ads to the right & wouldnt want to bump up an auction unduly. Aid
  16. Ah... didnt read the bumph. looks like I lost me sportsmans bet then. What yr reckon a minter would fetch these days then? Just, they dont come up often. Aid
  17. You'd know better than me Ted, just a shot in the dark from me. You don't see many for sale though do you Ted? What do reckon then 3K? less? Aid.
  18. Eddie Ray. Aid.
  19. Okay, so what's this gonna fetch? Never seen a La-beat on on ebay before. Just had a sportsmans bet with me brother it does £4000+ and it's vg- Or am I way out? Maybe less? Aid.
  20. Don't really do it for me personally but the archetypal instrumental for me would have to be Frankie Crocker. Would East Coast Connection qualify for an instrumental? Don't know why, but I aways considered it one, but its actually not? Just feels like one if you know what I mean, kind of a cross between a vocal & instrumental, another that feels like that is Lonnie Liston Smith Expansions. Does an instrumental have to have no vocals? Food for thought. Aid. p.s, quite like the Betty Boo instrumental.
  21. I like it a lot too. Funny that, how what's probably the best tune you've ever heard, one month, suddenly turns you off the next (I'm not referring to this one specifically, just generically). I have loads like that, great records, but for some reason, not only are they not great to you anymore, you actually don't even wanna hear em. Paris Sleepless Nights is an example for me personally. Aid.
  22. Ahh, Cheers Rich. I thought I did edit the label to Wheel City? I should pay more attention in class (x 100). Aid.
  23. Find A Quiet Place (& be lonely) on Wheel City. Aid. What a tuuuuoooooon!!!
  24. Another absolute favourite singer of mine, again don't know how he sold domestically or how much acclaim he actually received in his day as an artist, M-S & Thelma's, EDDIE HILL, Baby I Cried, You Got The Best Of Me, Nothing Sweeter, what a great, great vocalist, never seem to get tired of his voice, always a good sign that. AId.
  25. Don't what kind of record sales he had after the Shrine & Bell stuff but always think BOBBY REED had a great voice. Aid.
