  1. Beats 'Free Terry Sullivan' Aid.
  2. I'll have a think about that Sean, bet any money I know him. When Geoff W sold up he had S. Sam round his house, cherry picking like a vulture. We know a lot of mutual people then Aid.
  3. What was his second name Barry? Can't say as it springs to mind, but I'm a bit senile lately. Main lads I went to Wigan with, week in week out were Nelly (I still knock about with), Big Mark, Ainsley (in Aus now) Russ Redfern R.I.P. Joey Hatton, Yorkie R.I.P. from Latchford, Geoff Whitfield (he was a serious record collector, top lad too), Kenny Wakefield and Avo, Gaz Johns (who still comes out with us) from Orford. Loads and loads really, these just spring to mind now. Do you know Kev McQue? Jeff Boardman? Aid.
  4. Love her 'The Grass is not Greener', only just discovered this myself this week, I was blasting it out all weekend, top top tune. She also has another good track called 'I Need You Like A Baby' too. Aid.
  5. Hey Zed, remember another top lad from Widnes called Pete Smith, he had black hair Brian Ferry style? Top lad, long long time since I seen him. Aid.
  6. Hey Denbo, as for me, my statements were purely 'Northern Soul' based, and in the 70's. I'm sure there were generic soul/r&b venues etc, I have no doubt about that at all. Aid.
  7. Yeah, he lived in Penketh near me, not far from Cuerdley Cross, he went to the smoke to be a professional dancer. Great lad, real character, real nice guy, I knew him very well, he was one of the Warrington crowd really, adopted scouser. Aid.
  8. It's WIDNES son, you must NEVER go there! Aid.
  9. I knew some top lads from Widnes that went every week, remember one called Duncan Barrow?? Also, the LEGENDARY Bupa (Spelling?) was from Widnes. Also know a few more, one lad called Neil from Runcorn (really tall lad), top collector, had loads of rarities. Aid. Edit: should add, Bupa's day was way before mine (when it was really good ;-)).
  10. Correct Zed, Northern wasn't a big scene in Liverpool. Was a lad called Chris Hurley went to Wigan regular, absolute top draw dancer, he was really well known too, he was from Toxteth originally, but lived in Warrington so doesn't count. He was a top lad, mixed race, don't think I ever saw a better dancer, much better than that Sandy, I could be wrong, but I think he came 2nd in one of the dance comps, although they were a bore fest for me to be honest. But in the 70's a least, no soul scene in Liverpool to speak of, not saying there wasn't at other times. Aid. Edit: Also there was that downstairs bar near Bold Street, but that was 60's I think & more generic soul than Northern.
  11. Just Keep On Loving Me, Steve Mancha, Groovesville?? Aid. Edit: just seen the bottom of your post Chalky, I see you had it down as SM.
  12. Watch Yourself, The Nature Boys. Aid.
  13. Nice tune that. Aid.
  14. I suspect GN, wouldn't know a Northern Tune from a Hairspray Ballad. He just presses a button and his producers do the rest. Bad enough Paul O'Grady claiming to have gone to all nighters, yeah, course he did, and my di@ks a chocolate biscuit! Aid.
  15. Yeah know what you mean Pete, got to have that big red A staring right at you. Another great British one to own would be Incredibles Nothing Else To Say on Stateside black issue. I think it's the real Northern standards that are good about owning on British, the stuff we all know, wouldn't understand why anyone would want more obscure stuff on U.S original, if that makes sense? Aid.
  16. Wow good find that Russ. Hope you got a good price mate, must be worth a couple of ton or so?? I'd have kept that myself, and I don't collect British, good as it gets I reckon, just an iconic disk on British, couldn't be arsed on Goldwax. Aid.
  17. Hey Pete, ever have a James Carr That's What I Wanna Know Stateside Demo? Now thats a serious British record to own. Pretty rare too?? Or have you come across em much on your travels? Aid.
  18. British collecting never really appealed to me, but the one label that stands out for me is Stateside. It just looks the part. I've had a few nice ones on this, Baltimore Band, Condition Red, sounds like Russ Conway or something now, don't suppose it ever get played out either, but I still like it and takes me right back to the Casino. Also had a nice Bobbi Lynn demo of Earthquake and also had a few of the Darrell Banks over the years, great label, just looks so classic to my my eyes. Aid.
  19. Marvin Gaye's Past Time Love. I always believed this never got an issue?? Aid.
  20. Ahhh, thanks for clearing that up Tabs, sometimes the lines become blurred from stories you heard long ago. Jeez, that was an expensive bag of chips. Cheers ears Aid.
  21. That maybe it Len, just know I heard the story somewhere. Think I heard a story of someone ruining a Jades on Nite-Life, which was pretty valuable in the 70's, on a hot chippy counter I think. Don't ask me where I heard it, may just be 'Northern' urban myth to be honest? Aid.
  22. Wasn't there a story about a DJ actually leaving his records on the roof of a car as it drove off or something? Dickie S? Or did I dream that? Aid.
  23. Hi mate, how's it going? Long time no see. How come I'm not very surprised that you own one of these little gems. Aid.
  24. Did you hear about the paranoid rugby player that stopped playing? ....He thought they were all talking about him in the scrum! Bum Bum........ Aid.
  25. Hi Bob, Just done a search, only WLD coming up at this end, dont know if thats cos im in the U.K. or something?, 6 retrieved. What colour is the issue out of interest? Aid
