  1. I looked online today for a launch date, looks like they are working on post production audio, which is taking longer than an normal movie production apparently as they want to get the 'feel' of the sound exactly right and is obviously important. Some one suggested an early August launch. This is not all fact, just what I could find other people saying online.
  2. Just watched the Marvin Gaye documentary. Really really good. He was such complex character it's untrue. For me, Marvin had it all. Funny enough, George Benson was on Inheritance Tracks on Radio 4 this morning, he chose Save The Children from What's Going On, great choice from another hero of mine. Berry Gordy said that was the best piece of music ever made at Motown (even though he never backed the project because of 'image' issues).
  3. I used to go to Berlin to listen to Colin Curtis back then, but it was more jazz/latin/funk by then to be honest there, if my memory serves, which it frequently doesn't. Got heavily in to jazz/funk 81 onward, Cassanellis in Standish, Studio in Nantwich, Jazz Defectors and funk/soul dayers at the Ritz in Manchester etc, it didn't last. Should have stayed on the Northern Scene me thinks now.
  4. Agree Peter, great tune, one of those that sticks in your head and you end up singing it in your head at work on a loop.
  5. Excellent, set the Tivo box, off to Lowton friday night, then home to a BBC4 fest. I read Marvin's book, truly heartbreaking the way he went. The last time I ever seen him on telly alive was on The Tube, I think it was Jools H or someone, went over to Holland and did a film piece with him, he was very happy when he was there, as he could walk down the street, get a smoke or do whatever he wanted without getting mobbed.
  6. Hey Steve, It's no worries man, so what if you didn't know it had been booted, don't matter much does it mate, I didn't til I seen that vid on youtube To address your original point, don't think it would effect overall value too much in fact., after all, plenty of Larry/F Wilson/D-Larks or whatever boots and re-issues around, only (very few, what 2-3) originals that have surfaced, and that's what counts, I wouldn't worry bout boots if I possesed an ultra rare original in this day and age, in fact, raising it's profile would do no harm to the real thing in terms of value. It's not like the old days when you had to travel to actually hear that special record from that certain DJ, we've all got em digitally downloaded now anyway, and that don't count does it? Maybe I'm wrong and someone can name an example where it's had a detrimental effect since the digital age (because it was disastrous in the 70's), but I wouldn't have thought so anyway.
  7. Looks like theres already a boot knocking about.
  8. Got to say the more I hear Mello Souls (via youtube), it grows and grows on me, for me it's a real monster tune and has everything, intro, beat, soul, sax break, what more could you want? I bet if i heard it played out, blastin though speakers in a 'euphoric' state, then this tune would really send me to that special place. Hope I get that lottery up this weekend, cos I'd Buy It Now with an offer JM wouldn't refuse if I did........chance per dream. Doesn't someone called Mick H own a copy of this too?
  9. Great record this, just been discussing it with my brother. We know it was a Dickie Searling spin, very late Casino, I know he sold his copy for £50 back then. Just been giving it a listen, what a great great soul record, it's screams of soul quality IMO. Was this revived post Wigan? If so when and where? What would that £50 return these days?
  10. OT a bit, but recently watched a documentary on Englewood, Chicago, called The Interrupters, really superb and five star recommended viewing, although fair to say, there's nothing left and is now a wasteland. You can probably get it on Youtube if you search for it. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1319744/
  11. Cheers bob, i stand corrected then. Love both them toons.
  12. Chico Lamar, What Do You Think I Am, Fuller I did think Pat & The Blenders on Fast Eddie, but discogs have another record on it.
  13. Not the biggest aficionado with modern, but really do like this record. I see Craig Moerer has got a demo up for grabs. Am I right in saying the demo is ultra rare? I've only seen the issues? Great tune anyhow.
  14. If it's the same lad, which I'm pretty sure it is, I went to watch Echo & The Bunnymen live at Buxton Pavilion once, early 80ish, Neil gave me and my mate a lift in his car, when we got back, he went straight on the the Casino, I'd stopped going by then.
  15. Cheers for that background, great record, sadly out of my league, unless its one of those Numero ones I think.
  16. Bacharach and David's, Any Day Now, Chuck Jackson was covered by Elvis. Great tune that, Chuck's I mean. The Original Beat Ballard! Edit: Don't know if this fits the criteria of the tread, thinking about it, as obviously Elvis was a big star by 69.
  17. I noticed we have one up for auction on evil bay. (not sure if I should post a link??) Its in only 'G' condition, two great great soulful sides on this record IMO. I just love it, okay, what's the history on this? Who first played this and where? Stafford/later?? Don't come up for auction that often, I'm presuming we can class this as very rare, what's it gonna Fetch then? Shame about the condition of this, wonder what a minter would fetch? Aid.
  18. While I'm on the subject. Chalky/Dave P. Manship has changed the format of his Rarest Of The Rare, does he add/subtract on a regular basis or does he give the database a complete updated facelift every now and then?
  19. I've watched a few go though on yellow Pad. Manship still has it on his rarest, goes for buttons.
  20. I payed for a headlamp Aid.
  21. Was he small, with short black hair? Maybe a little tash? Mate of Dickie Searling? Had a box full of rarities in the record bar at WC. Don't laugh, but if it was him, I bought a Don Varner (pressing) on Quinvy, thinking it was original! It was tucked away right at the back of the box full of really rare originals, but it was the only pressing in there, (I thought he didn't know what he had, so offered a silly amount of for a pressing) he took it with a smile!! My face was tearstained that night I can tell you, I was young and foolish, that's my excuse, live and learn. Aid.
  22. I believe it Ste, he was a top guy, he was friendly with all the Warrington lads. I remember and know/knew Janet well, shared many a Sunday morning on the train back to Bank Quay. Yeah, I still see Geoff and in touch with him regular, (wish I'd had one tenth of the quality records he's had!), I'm sure he's kept a few back for himself, but he won't let on which ones, I do badger him about it. Aid.
  23. What's that, kind of after hours all night drinking/dancing? An old friend of mine lives in Moss Side, he always talked about 'blues' nights (not in the music sense), it was a reggae thing, they have parties in each other houses, drinking and dancing, always sounded like great fun, suppose same type of thing? Aid.
  24. On a serious historical note, it's a large port too, I've have read that some sailors were bringing in some early U.S. soul/r&b records in to the country, along with some of those Beach Boy style button down shirts & mohair/mod style suits early 60's, before it went mainstream. Aid.
