  1. Off top of me bonce, a few favourites of my though the years........ George Benson World Is a Ghetto, THEE perfect 12' record. Sharon Redd, Beat The Street. Phylliss Hyman, You Know How To Love Me. Change, Searchin. King Tutt, You've Got Me Hung Up. D Train Your'e The One For Me. Africa Bambaata & The Soul Sonic Force, Planet Rock. Peach Boys, Don't Make Me Wait. Tania Maria, Come With Me.......Great great tune, remember big at the Hacienda circa 83, when it was still a cool hang out. This is sheer class, hard to get a 12' of this, only ever had it on an album, but i know they are out there.
  2. Some great spins there, Johnnie Hoyle, Choooooonnnn and a half that one.
  3. I'm very opimistic, going by what I seen at KGH, the dancers, the look and the feel of the actors, even the hair, it just had it all, it felt right. No one is really expecting anything other than a faily acurate historical cultual depiction are they? Throw in a good narrative to glue it together, then we are all happy aren't we? Well that'll be enough for me, oh, and some good music. We can tend to get a little precious here, whats the point of that? Have a little faith in the filmaker, its a labour of love, and that'll be the difference.
  4. Spurs got hammered, I had the misfortune to watch my RL team suffer the same fate, but it sounds you even had a worse weekend than me mate, don't envy you pal. 100 on the cringeometer, you should have had them ejected Winn, on compassionate grounds.
  5. Few Warrington lads out there too Julian. Know for a fact they hoover up the vinyl when they are home and take it back as a few Dj. Off subject, a mate of mine if off over To Aus for that big weekend in November (i think), long way to travel just for that, mind you, think he is taking time out in Thailand on route :-)
  6. Can't wait to see it now, reckon I'll be cutting room floor with my dance moves. Wonder if its appeal will transcend our sad and ageing community at the box office. I'd like to think that it might inspire more young people to get involved.
  7. Brilliant! nearly spat me spat me tea out.
  8. Gets quite/very posh just a stones throw from Stockport, in fact, all the real money is South Manchester, but not Stockport itself. Runcorn, completely separate, only good thing bout Runcorn is the road out (Bar Grumpy Soul), the mice throw themselves on the traps in Runcorn.
  9. Same here mate, well you know excactly what I mean then Reg, original post sums it up.
  10. Ive got loads, themed. Dont have any tenuously linked tracks. Usually have to sort the wheat from the chaff but theres always good ens in there somewhere I find D-town, Mirwood, Thelma, Groovesville etc, then theres the location ones Westcoast/Phili/Detroit ones etc. Then the themes like Millionares Only/Sought after soul/big City, love these. Even got some Girls only ones, and got a harmony one. Great way to hear stuff I wouldnt normally. I think comp albums are great personally.
  11. Never knew this track, only just heard it, love it. Who/where did this first get spins? Does it still get spins? What a mega tune this is IMO. West Coast I presume then? Did he do anything else?
  12. Sounds like the latest incarnation of Parr Hall, Warrington, to a tee. I avoid, even though its on my doorstep. Radcliffe is quality by all reports. Prob my next destination of choice, now Lowton seems to be off.....(again) :-(
  13. Got to say I dont like that part of the scene and personally find it cringewothy. I do say live and let live, but its a bit embarrasing IMO, Whats the point? Its 2013, just get on with it today, you can be stylish (I like to think I am cough cough) even retro, which is a smart look by todays standards, but 40" Spencers and twirly skirts? I dont like it, its just silly. i reckon its only a very small % in fancy dress, but they get all the coverage with the filmakers.
  14. I seen tons more crime on the very early rave scene, much more than I ever seen at Wigan. Manchester could be very seriously unplesant early doors on that scene. The Blackburn warehouses, Conspiracy, that one on Oldham St too, it was all about the gangs who ran them, it was pretty bad, just everyone was gurning too much and most didnt notice, I did, cos I knew which gangs were involved and knew what was going on behind the scenes, Cheatham Hill and Salford, these guys were always lurking. But saying all that, when I first got involved, It didnt half remind me of the Northern scene and I always thought it had all be done before in the 70s, so i always did see the similarities to be fair.
  15. Very well put Chippy, cant argue with that mate. I realise we all arrive at where we are through very different routes. Just wanted to vent my opinion on the subject and used your post as a platform, maybe I shouldnt have. Like I say, wasnt actually having a pop at you personally, you are fully entitled to your opinions of course.
  16. Hey Chippy, not having a go, just my opinion. Isnt that the wrong way round? I detest this whole Weller/Soul thing. He aint nothing but a bandwagon jumper. I was/am familiar with all his very first records and onward. Athough say....In The City etc, wasnt bad, I was listening to Gary Haines or J D Martin when he was playing at being a punk, my mother knew more about soul than him. So, he then becomes a star (rightly so), as he is very talented too (and I do like him), but then, all of a sudden, he's some kind of soul guru. We had finished with his style and music before he even started on it. Rant over :-) Back on topic.
  17. If it bunk beds you could dive off the balcony to a full splits on main hall dance floor :-)
  18. Agree, not too bad really, and quite good in parts. Thing is, the scene itself if fragmented, we all like some bits of it & not others. Think this piece showed it warts and all, but above all, that its about the music. I always think what would outsiders think? like people in work etc. I think it showed the scene up to be more intriguing than sad, which is what I initially worred about. Same old clips though. but overall, good.
  19. You are dead right Quinvy, I was talking a to a 'top' DJ, I mean one who's name we all know, who was even saying exactly the same this summer, because of his age, won't go in with stupid money anymore, because may never get it back, and also seriously consider selling some, he has never sold before from his own collection.
  20. Was at Blackpool Saturday, it's now Monday, my calfs are now aching, I've got a mandatory 'yellow head' on my nose and my lips are sore on the inside . Always the signs of a great night. Love it.
  21. They played so many instrumentals back then, v high % on this tape.
  22. Great tape, got it on airplay pumping into my system and out of me speakers. Superb.
  23. Depended on the gear
  24. Mancha for me. Groovesville just had the best vocalists IMO Steve, Melvin & JJ, cant beat em!
