  1. Maybe we've just become grumpy old men Euen. :
  2. And just to clarify the Steve in question in this email isn't me......
  3. Another one for sale today and it's a credible collector's "spare copy".....Like I said in the beginning it's not rare, despite what Ian says.....just an uncommon record. And just because the main dealers don't happen to have a copy in stock doesn't make it rare either. Now the £750 seller - I don't think it's his fault. If someone tried to sell you a Ralph Lauren Polo shirt for £350 it's the buyer who'd be the mug for buying it, you'd think the seller was potty and walk away....Same with records isn't it? Work on the assumption that dealers will get what they can.
  4. Irma Routen no, Mel Britt yes.
  5. Thanks, All the above proves Glyn's point that this has been known about since early 80's.....All we want is for people to "get it right" and not "make it up".
  6. Ever since Glyn reviewed it in the early 80's it's been a "wanted" record by soul collectors and has appeared on plenty of "wants lists". I seem to recall Soul Sam or possibly Robin S. owned a copy at one point (later), but no doubt it got traded on.
  7. Bob Snow also had a Bobby Williams for sale apparently.
  8. Now changed.....Thanks Chalkmeister...
  9. It's not really rare . Known to collectors who've either had it / have it, or 'passed' on it in the past.....(I am in the latter camp). I too preferred the other side, but what do I know? Levine says it's the "best thing in 30 years", so those that follow him will be clambering over each other to find a copy now. And that's when the price jumps. Those that feel they "need it" expect one on the JM auction soon......
  10. Chalky it's August Heat title says Audio Heat....I am sure Vince Broomfield would like that Gave August Heat a spin at the last Filthy Soul......very good.
  11. Definitely remember you having the 7 back in the 80's Glyn. It knocked us out at the time....and yes you mentioned it in Blackbeat. I even remember talking to you about it at a Rotherham All nighter (not Clifton Hall).... Unfortunately history is being re-written all the time.....There is an amazing lot of BS on the web about records. ATB Steve
  12. The music will never die, it's been too widely marketed for that to happen, and is known about globally. The "scene" i.e. dressing up, and going out dancing in a cold hall somewhere in Britain, will die out along with all the paraphanalia, badges, vests, talking clocks etc. It's been on life support for some years now since the last lot of returnees renewed their interest, and then rapidly remembered why they didn't stick with soul music in the first place.
  13. Oh yeah plenty of tales of people wading in and then not being able to afford their records....Ha ha remember when I was a kid not eating properly for days to fund a record! On the other end of the scale we've had people embezzel their employers money so they could amass a box of trophy records......It's a funny old world....
  14. Their other one is fab as well.....really nice stepper.
  15. Ok put two by for us......XXL and XXS
  16. Dave when are you starting your new line in mens apparel?
  17. That reminds me of the time I was cycling through Bridgwater once. Anyway the local chapter of Hells Angels pulled up beside me at the traffic lights all revving their HD's and all wearing their trademark jackets. This could be interesting I thought.....expecting some tough hoodlums prone to flattening bars in seconds, knocking cyclists over for a larf, not changing their filthy trousers for over a year - you know hard men types....Anyway I looked at 'em and they were a bunch of geriatric whimps like bank managers on a day off. It was both amusing and re-assuring I guess.
  18. KOKO was Johnnie Baylor's label in the 60's and 70's.
  19. I don't know I don't associate myself with that side of it at all...laughable and avoided like the plague. It's just like the "Teddy Boys" and we used to diss. them.
  20. Isn't NS "a way of life" these days
  21. Jees, amazing no one has bitten your hand off for this. I saw Mel'sa Morgan last year at the Jazz Cafe and after her performance got her to autograph my copy for me - Her face was a treat! Double take, stare and then a loud "OMG!". The promotor looked like "....well it's not even one of her records? What's this about?" Priceless.
  22. Can't see an editorial? That's most unlike me.......I know my wife was very unwell at the time, but there must be one somewhere
  23. Hi there, good to see you Sunday and catch up. I'm sure you'll hear Flowers from Sam next time you see him. Cheers Steve
  24. Thanks Steve, a delight to be able to play....
