  1. Yes agree. Played two tracks off of it on the radio at the beginning of the month. Soul junction does the bizness once again! And we can trace the Coalitions right back to Little Tony Talent - good old fashioned niter sound. Also coming unissued J B Bingham tracks...they're very good too.
  2. Sorry, Andy are you attempting to summarize Sooty's "bag of wind" post?.....:LOL - if so it didn't come out you just seem to have re-posted it.....One way of getting the page numbers on the thread up I guess! "he he x Luv etc.. @@"
  3. At non northern events it happens all the time. Plenty of Djs don't have any rare records. At northern / rare events, yes the odd ones fit in nicely. Admirations on One-Der-Ful, and The Performers on Mirwood are two I've slipped into sets in the last year. I know Chalky plays a lot of underplayed cheaper 60's stuff. But you couldn't play "Be Thankful" or stuff like "maxine Nightingale" at a northern night and walk away with your credibility in tact....they are handbaggers records!!!!
  4. A great two room venue then! Sorted....
  5. So it's all Godin's fault then......Simples! I always suspected he wasn't quite the white Knight that everyone said
  6. It wasn't yours Len, I repeat a RARE soul night....
  7. I tripped over a handbag at a rare soul night. Confused of Herts....
  8. Check John Manship's page on facebook.....he's just posted stuff up
  9. You mean Northern Soul? Or is it Norman Soul? I get confused with all these different badges and labels General Soul Max, Dave H, Chris Brown and a load of others might have something to say bout dat.....since they have put on loads of good nights for the good burghers of Cambridge.
  10. Mike he is saying Dave Godin didn't travel much - occasional forays to Cleethorpes, Wigan and Blackpool back in the day. back then it was ALL Northern Soul - there was no "Rare soul", in fact I am trying to think when I first heard the term whispered in public. 80's I think.....
  11. Yep but it's 6.15p.m Byrney and all the opposing fans have lost interest in fighting and gone home for their tea.....And you are still there shouting .......The term 'northern soul' was lost to commercialism years ago. People still use it, but it's identity is different. I realised the battle had been lost a few years ago and the last time I ever went to Prestatyn. Then there were more clothes, clocks and birthday cards on sale than records. I distinctly remember to get to talk to Tim Ash I had to navigate through a clothes rack of designer circle skirts and mod clobber and nearly knocked the clothes rack over in the process. Keep the faith!
  12. why would anyone boot it? Not in demand and not rare.....
  13. Agree 100% but we're hopelessly outnumbered Captain. It's a battle we lost a long time ago.
  14. Is less about the actual words used, more about what those words actually represent.
  15. How funny and ironic.....just popped in to see what was being said and up pops an ad on the screen for Tony Blackburn's "Soul classics"...
  16. I am sure you are not alone Paul! Also v different in the south - there have only ever been just enough people to go round!
  17. Not a soul one, but this takes the biscuit. Straight jacket for the seller please.....no matter how much you fiddle around with glue and a cocktail stick, that one is fooked! https://www.ebay.com/itm/SCHOENBERG-MITROPOULOS-NY-PHIL-WCBS-VARIATIONS-FOR-ORCH-1950-TEST-ACETATE-/261100350278?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item3ccacb2b46#ht_918wt_904
  18. Two very different "northern" style scenes why is everyone still going on about this? Everyone should know by now, we've been talking about it for years and still people 'whine' on and talk about either "handbaggers" or "a little togetherness" and it'll all be alright on the night. Whilst the progressive end of the scene are quite happy to hear most "Oldies" cos that's where they started their musical journey, most of the Oldies crowd only want to hear what they already know and love. Put another way everyone likes the oldies, but not everyone likes the newer stuff. But that said there's nothing wrong about a load of 50 somethings going out and having a potter about to "Band of gold", some Motown and a few sherries on a Saturday night - good luck to them if that's what they want to do.....It's not "killing the scene" and all the other daft stuff I read on here. Russ V. and others, you are on the "rare soul" scene. "Northern Soul" as a term was corrupted many many years ago and has come to mean something different to what you like and believe in. Russfest and his 7,000 "soulies" at Butlins, the endless 'It's a way of life' "tat" on Ebay, Radio 2 frothing at the mouth (how mainstream is that!), £2.99 CDs in Tescos.....In fact all the baggage that travels around with the two words "northern soul", make it a million miles from what originally attracted you to the scene. So please get over it and move on! Once you do it'll be a like a weight lifted from your shoulders...... "Right on brothers and sisters"! Yeah right on for the darkness!.....
  19. They also did an album on RCA if you want to hear more of them Peter99. I remember getting the F&E 45 back in the 90's - it was the local version before RCA picked them up - I thought it was great. As Dave P says a slightly different more ameteurish mix makes it all the better. I've seen quite a few on British. Who says there are only 3 issues and 25 demos? Is that the official "Soul Police" version of events?.....
  20. Can you do the dance tho? We used to play it years ago Saturday afternoon chill out record at Essence - 90's - not really a dancer, more "background pleasantness", to be played while people are chilling out, reading the papers, nurturing hang overs etc....Nowhere near good enough for night time spins. IMHO of course!
  21. Great choice, have written 40 pages on Hob stuff in me book....some blinders on the label. Connie Pitts Working People, Little Vicki etc....
  22. I'd agree with £100 maybe £150. Ivor had one on here recently thought he was a tad expensive @ £200 - but I think he sold it...... Steve
  23. hi Jordi, Steve Clancy had two, that's where I got my one.
  24. Yep got my copy early too....
