  1. The Grapevine release did not come out until August 1977. Grapevine didn't exist in 1976, that's probably the date the song was licensed.
  2. Certainly played at Wigan some time before the Grapevine issue……but why would it be "pressed" anyway if on Grapevine? Doesn't make sense….
  3. Yes blue eyes but by the 60's he had become part of the Philly white soul gang along with John Madara, Darrell Hall, John Oates etc etc….top guy.
  4. Seriously is someone playing a version SAYING it's Millie Jackson.....As Mike says someone give em a slap.....
  5. Fantastic piece of work Mark.
  6. Ahhh I know the answer to that Pete……Carvers are disguised to look like acetates / test pressings etc. with the addition of a paper label. Looks better than a Pye Disco Demand 45…..to the unsuspecting casual eye. Seen a well known DJ do this and try to get away with it. I could tell because the decks were at eye level and you could see they were all carvers with stuck on studio labels, Bell Sound, Virtue etc….even on West Coast recordings…So an easy substitute for so called DJs who can't be bothered to put in the leg-work…..
  7. Its a remake Kirsty done a few years ago. Steve
  8. For a soul night my longest was drive to Preston from North London / Herts, and then drive back at the end of the night at 2 am……seem to recall Geoff was with me and the petrol bill was not funny. I've also done Prestatyn and back in a night (similar to Simsy), Wigan and back in a night in the 90s etc. Back in the 70s went by coach to Wigan, once and once only…..well train from Kent to London, then coach from Victoria Coach to Manchester, then legged it to Manny Vic station and got a train to Wigan. Same in reverse coming back, except we stopped at Derby bus station and lost a passenger. When we eventually found him, and got back to London and got the train from london back to Kent it was 7 pm…..dinner in the oven, bed, then off to work next morning.
  9. They do not get returned to sender, they sit in customs warehouse and eventually get destroyed.....Paul you need to pay up if you want the record....this is not something new, many of us have been navigating through it for years.
  10. Lifeline record bar is excellent.
  11. Gloucester - a city with a fine history of northern soul.
  12. I think that's the right call Colin.
  13. As Chalky says Bill Bunky Sheppard, famous Chicago producer. His name is on tons of records.
  14. Yes left field stuff going cheaper, "big guns" chasing trophy records, been going on for several years now....
  15. Loads not on youtube - THANK GOD.
  16. Used to be a cheapie but has been in demand for a few years now…..
  17. Shute! Was after one of them….. :-( 60 degrees…..wow! ATB Steve
  18. Hi Darren, Hope you are not too wet down there in Somerset! What label was that Lovations on out of interest? Phase III or Cap City? Steve
  19. Classic Godin…..and I wonder how he would have felt if Peebles had got kicked off the show for playing a banned record….We'll never know and I am not a fan of Andy Peebles either, just an interesting perspective from a moment in time. BTW Bunny Jones who was responsible for this record originally also behind a number of other northern records, Funky get Stanky, Curtis Blandon, etc. She was certainly no one trick pony.
  20. I got the first one years ago, and paid somewhat more than that for it…..good price as Micky says….
  21. Mel could have had it earlier but didn't, since Bunny Jones was Chris Jones mother, and Chris Jones was at Scepter at the same time as Mel, and before Mel started West End…..
  22. Same here Richard. Wasn't it Oscar Wilde who said that a man who tires of hearing new music is a man who tires of life? Or am I getting that bit confused in my old age?
  23. Agree with the principle of "£8 for what"? It is a long standing overcharge by PO. But the decision whether to charge import duty / VAT is determined by HMC&E not the PO. I have NEVER had a PO delivered parcel with import duty to pay, without the £8 stuck on top. HMC&E determine the duty at their warehouses (my one is at Bracknell or somewhere) which everything coming into the UK goes through, unless you use a specialist like FedEx / UPS who are "trusted" to collect on behalf of HMC&E. Got stung with one of them too.......Parcel received before Xmas, no duty, then a letter arrives this week "You owe us xxx - pay immediately" - a nasty shock to the system and post Xmas bank balance I can tell you!
  24. The PO have charged an £8 collection fee for ages, not just post privatisation…..it's nothing new, but there is a concerted campaign on to collect import duty…..
  25. Seems to be a new campaign on now by HMC&E……got two grey cards today….went to collect - feck it two cheap rekkids $25 and stung both times…..
