OMG just been playing his recent CD…..will play a track off it tonight on Solar…...
-
Really odd, I remember SB had at least a 100 count of them maybe more......and they've nearly all vanished - makes you wonder where do records disappear to....?
-
Well said. Not a great fan of "Happy" as a northern spin personally although I think it's a great feel good pop record and I did try and get a 7" (and failed) before they sold out....but do see where you are coming from.
-
Well please bear me in mind when you get bored with it….
-
Hi Greg, yes agree.....was lucky enough to be among a small group to see it late last year, just after it was finished but kept quiet about it - I loved it, as you might tell from my posts. And I think the vast majority of people on the scene will dig it too. Oh God! A real "Colemanballs" on my part Alison! Please don't send to "Private Eye"

Sorry I don't buy that Dobber, Teffler has posted scans and anyone that knows or has these records on original can see they are originals - Bell Sound stamp, narrow Columbia pressing plant ZTS numbers……and if you don't know how to tell an original from a fake, best not risk causing doubt on a record auction - say nothing.…..

Sorry, sometimes my acidic sense of humour takes over…..I wasn't in "Octopussy" either - turned up 5 mins too late and all the roles were all filled, so I just stood around and watched the filming!! But I do find sniping about the film very frustrating. Its been going on from a minority for some time - It feels like someone achieves something (and it really is very good) and Elaine has put everything into it……and immediately the knockers are out. "It won't be any good", "it won't represent what it was really like", "Why is it taking so long - what's the problem?", and now people are "disgusted" because "the extras (of which there were hundreds at Blackburn King Georges) aren't all invited to a preview" etc. etc. i'd wager the pre promotion and marketing is largely done by a company, and they'll have a plan to maximise publicity. I am sure there will be further pre-views.

I was an extra in "Octopussy" the 1983 James Bond film (uncredited in IMDb boo hoo!) - come to think of it now, I never got free tickets to see it with my family and friends when it was previewed….Maud Evans never answers my letters anymore, and some years ago Roger Moore walked past me in the street in London - completely blanked me!!!…I think all of the other East German soldier extras that spent a Sunday morning at Ferry Meadows that morning are all upset too - boo hoo! We're starting an internet forum so we can all moan about how we've been treated by Broccoli Films.

It's not…..it's about two lads journey into NS>…..

Hi, the green sleeves first appeared in the mid - late 90s I think….We got the same coffee and meal though :-)
-
Yes it was avante grade,,,,,,have told this story before but was at kings Lynn with Sam when he bought it…..John used to give us each a pile to play through…..and I used too get a pile of cheaper stuff on the whole, since I didn't have as much money….anyway when Martin played it and decided to buy it, I thought "what???? why????" I didn't get it……Then it took me over 20 years to get a copy,…

Played at Rock City in the 80s Peter 100…..

VAT is paid on annual turnover by the trader, not the seller of an individual record. If the seller sells loads of records and makes the VAT threshold he may need to worry about VAT, but in this case JM only acts as a "broker" or middle man…..so VAT not payable at 20% on £1000….Sorry.
-
£800? (20% of 1000 = 200)

ALways loved both of the Constellations 45s on Gemini Star, but for me "I Dont Know about you" is more poppy, easy on the ear / feet dancer, while "I Didn't know How to" is a driving moody opus with its change of directions, it's a fantastically produced dance record…..Drumming is, as John says great (Bernard Purdie no less). A number of top musicians were on the session too and you can tell! Never tire of it.
-
Hi Jordi, first copy of F.Smogg to Sam c 1985…..Targets for shooting practice - that was Tommy Ridgeley on International City…..(true)
-
Yes I heard that too Ivor…..
-
Yes Brown got it. When he was selling up some years ago, I was the second person in there after Tim, and it had already gone. Still after it as it happens....
-
That was on Bell, not a Levine production….pretty good record from c 1972 ish.
-
Yes I think so…..and James Wells both made in the 70s.

Barbara St. Clair: Teacherman (Crosseyed Bear) * Sorted*
Steve G replied to Csta's topic in Record Wants
Yes, there's a partial write up of Barbara St Clair on a Buffalo music website which I am sure is googleable, she of course was also in The Pinkooshins (Mercury) previously.....The article only mentions one of the band going into Spyro Gyra but I think it was more than one.....You can't really have a hit with RCA and also be plugging some other recording you've made (B St.C).....hence the jettisoning of the Barbara St Clair record.....and John A buying them all up....In fact B St.C may have been made after they signed to RCA, and be a moonlighting job now I come to think of it, but would need to check dates etc. since I don't know how long Spyro Gyra were on RCA before they had a hit....Steve -
Hi Penny, yes I do disagree....am not talking about Graham Bond, am talking about soul acts in the USA......Yep sure a few did projects for Jesse Jackson's PUSH movement, March of Dimes etc. but by and large people make a record to have a hit......or to make money.
-
Hi Ian, Ginger will be the first person to tell you he's a DJ and not a record collector.......He's been turned over more than once I am afraid to say - Johnny Watson another example......DJs are always more likely to fall for these things, another DJ friend we all know has had similar experiences over the years, occasionally buying stuff and thinking it's something it isn't.
