  1. Gareth X correct……Artie Wayne told me the story of how DIane & Annita cut it when Toni Wine walked in off the street with the song. It was months before the Mindbenders and Patti Labelle.
  2. Alright swaying side to side....
  3. I DJed in the Tent at Cala Grand several times. It was essentially an attempt to capture what had been happening at Soul Essence ever since 92 and The Orwell from whenever the Orwell got going. It wasn't "groundbreaking" just an attempt to capture something that had already worked elsewhere. I am not being "grumpy" but let's be honest about it's origins..... PS: Was so cold one year I remmeber Richard going out and hiring a kind of jet engine fan heater!!! We were all stood around in coats and scarves, too cold to dance....

  9. Also came out on a local florida label….yellow. That's what I have it on….
  10. Pretty much, as Steve says they asked for financing early on, and held a "do" in a warehouse venue in Shoreditch. Not sure that they got too much in the end, lots of talk as usual, but fewer ppl prepared to put money in - same old story probably. It has certainly taken over much of Elaine and Marco's life for the last few years getting it done.
  11. I have one copy here…..

  14. Only 40 made I believe Mal…..
  15. It did appear as an auction item on his list…...
  16. ….I'll ask him again then…..
  17. Ian told me he did that as a joke / mock up……I was heartbroken!
  18. Absolutely Quinvy……keep your hand til the final few seconds…..
  19. I get it Jordi…..Unimaginative DJs, hand baggers etc…..let's not go down that route and divert the thread off course , and just avoid such places . I wonder who'll be playing Pherrell at a soul night then ….and how long before it's a "massive dance floor filler" …..PS Am not 100% sure the Crow doesn't have a black vocalist y'know…..Anyone ever seen a pic of 'em….?
  20. Hi Tom, blow a kiss to yer Dad from me! Spot on Paul….I remember when I tracked down Tom Tom in the early 80s…..I wanted to talk to him about Brothers & Sisters on Toddlin Town, Cheryl Berdell and a host of obscure Chicago acts…..He was over the moon and wanted to talk to me about the fact he'd just been flown to London to mix Phil Collins "You can't hurry love"…..I thought he was taking the pee (the record hadn't been issued at that point)….and I remember thinking "Phil Collins? Is he bonkers?". But…..we've always had commercialism tugging on the coat tails of the northern scene, it comes and goes again, and comes back….no doubt there will be more from Señor Levine before long too……You are right about "church of the poison mind", Boy George etc…..only difference is Pherrell is from the US and a person of colour….Pherrell is a good fun pop record, nothing more. Its never going to be "northern soul"….
  21. Well good if you could find a forum that champions R&B 78s from the 50s, I am sure they'd welcome the fact that a "youngster" like you has discovered their music…..Good luck at Doctors….
  22. Dunno why you are being so grumpy m8. Anyone who has discovered soul music from 60s 70s etc. in this day and age is doing pretty well in my book…..
  23. Morning Pete….
  24. Big up to all the younger soul fans…..
