  3. Theme from Coloredman also a shortie as I recall…As is the Trey Js I found it all in you...
  4. Yep and certainly dances like him too in that funny sort of mod way
  5. Agreed very low price.
  6. Hi Steve M, yes South Yorks was the place for us modern dudes at the time, didn't miss a single Rotters…..Sheffied and Rotherham Tiffs yes, I remember going to Snaith for an evening do, I went after work in london one Friday night, I was the first one there, it was all closed up when I got there on the bus from Goole. There was a sign on the door advertising strippers! …..Anyway Arthur turned up and it all started (not the strippers ha ha)…..Soul Sam gave me a lift back to Donny after the event so I could get a night train back to London about 3 am…..otherwise no other way of getting home to Kent….madness! Loved it, but never went to Take Two.
  7. What a fabulous playlist….I went to the Niters at Rotters, great, top events Richard was on his new release vibe at the time…..Frank from Southampton used to travel back with me on the train…..I realise not your cup of tea, but for some of us they were top nights and well worth the train ride to Sheffield. PS: HM also played the Embassy Club in London around the same time...
  8. Any Sheffield alldayers….1982 I think.

  10. Correct, Ian found it at Soul Bowl….in the 50p bin I think John said...
  11. Hi, he was my biggest seller, got through 50-70 of each issue by just walking round venues selling them, in return I let him have a column for a while ….I saw him at the Penang Charity all dayer that Rowena organised in May….he hasn't changed a bit….
  12. Ian, you got to remember there was also an Oldies v newies split within 60s too….we had a series of letters on that as well…..many of the gigs in the home counties, Peterborough, leicester, Notts way that get championed these days as "great places" were very much oldies based - and basic it was too…."Cause you're mine", "Right track", "Soul Step", Wakefield Sun….gigs that frankly were not worth going out and crossing the road for! Steve
  13. I think it started WIgan 79-80 ish when John A got all the initial modern soul things that Richard et al started playing…a major shift in the music being played, that continued for the last years of Wigan,,,,that's when you got the "F*ck the funk" banner etc. Soul Sam playing "Casanova". Pete did like 70s, just not at a niter.
  14. Assuming he wouldn't have mellowed out, I do wonder how Pete would have got on in the internet age…..northern soul "wear", cocks with clocks that chime Frank Wilson, divvies having line dancing lessons, the Wigan shopping centre debacles (there has been more than one - who remembers the Anniversary with special VIP area with pizza and prosecco for £20 extra - another Peterborough idiot behind that one!!), the NS flash mobs dancing in Blackpool, the various Levine come backs etc….not to mention today's major promotors who I am sure he would have a view on- there would be lawsuits flying around I am sure…..
  15. Mick Webb from Windsor,,,,
  16. Hi Mark, fair to say not everyone was in the debate….plenty still went to clubs and din';t get involved in the politics side of things just like today….three way split by 84 - 60s newies v 60s oldies v modern….Steve
  17. What happened to Pete Crampton? (the second letter on the last page)…..I am off to find Tommo, Rod's and others contributions from the time…..I may be some time But will be back with them when I find 'em.
  18. Indeed, it seemed like it was a matter of life or death sometimes. I remember keeping a baseball bat behind my door for a month, after I'd upset a few of the Peterborough oldies crowd, and had an unexpected "visit" one night from a few of them - or rather my then wife did as I was out! She was quite upset at the time….heady days.
  19. …and Pete's second letter……God we were all so passionate back then…no dancing in shopping centres….
  20. Here are the replies….
  21. Very true…feel the music….not follow a tutor….
  22. Pass the bucket when you finished….
  23. OMG - brilliant find….I can see it now coach trips to Wigan….slaps head and exits stage left.
  24. The scooters didn't arrive til the end - last year or two, post Quadrophenia I think…Agree up til then you never saw a scooter at Wigan Casino.
  25. Not sure about this Ian - these days some idiot will probably pay £8k for the trashed copy….just to help them in their quest to be "one of the big boys"...
