  1. Richard Scanes - used to have a shop in Mile End….got loads of great records out of there South Camp, Goldwax, UK Action etc. when he was selling up prior to his moving to Soho. Was there a connection with Terecords who used to import singles? Also Wil Collins & Willpower two copies were in that shop. I remember a right freezing cold dump, an overtly "camp" sales assistant, but box loads of good 7s.
  2. My son always thought The Royal Esquires Ain't gonna run was a bit like drum n bass.
  3. I doubt there was much in there for you. NY has been clean for years. Not to say you won't find something but there are easier places to try and find rare records…..
  4. I think on balance the "Theme from police story" by the Pat Williams Orchestra was better big spin for Russ for a few weeks c.77/78.
  5. St Albans allnighter I heard it at - it was at the Fire Station there - fell off me perch when I heard it. Ral Donner the same night -v bad times….
  6. A few idiots down south also played it at the same time…. :-(
  7. Sammy Davis was never popular - a flash in the pan, played by a few for a couple of weeks that's all. Merry Xmas.
  8. Yes. Same dude. Also got an acetate of him from this period, quite a fair northern sound.
  9. Indeed. I seem to recall people on here were offering the seller 10k as soon as it appeared. Looks like after commission he made a bit more than that.

  11. Just chalk it up as one of a number of records from Bunny Jones. She was an interesting lady. And her son was Chris Jones (Jonz) worked for a number of labels, Motown, Scepter etc. I could go on about Bunny's other work, lots of good stuff from Harlem and she was also behind that "I was born this way" gay thing, which she sold out of the boot of her car first. Her influence was great, but all people are interested in is which DJ played "Stanky" first. It was probably Frankie Loveman Crocker on WWRL. Listened to it for a minute and went "Ooooh shit" and took it off and threw it in his bin.
  12. Yes news to me, I thought Paul Weller had got it….

  17. Sad, I interviewed Blue Lovett for Black Echoes c.1984. Had to go to his hotel in Newmarket. Lovely guy. At the time he was over at the USAF bases, and his daughter Desi was recording. Might have to play the X rated version of Kiss & Say goodbye Friday….it's Blue Lovett doing the x rated bit.

  25. Hi Steve M, yes South Yorks was the place for us modern dudes at the time, didn't miss a single Rotters…..Sheffied and Rotherham Tiffs yes, I remember going to Snaith for an evening do, I went after work in london one Friday night, I was the first one there, it was all closed up when I got there on the bus from Goole. There was a sign on the door advertising strippers! …..Anyway Arthur turned up and it all started (not the strippers ha ha)…..Soul Sam gave me a lift back to Donny after the event so I could get a night train back to London about 3 am…..otherwise no other way of getting home to Kent….madness! Loved it, but never went to Take Two.
