  1. The album is only a test pressing, and was not commercially released. Rarer than Frank Wilson too.
  2. An optimist indeed - Halo I thought went for more than that these days? Has anyone got a soundbyte of Tolbert for me? Haven't heard it for ages... Billy link
  3. The saddest part of all this? His "item counter views" have gone from about 15 in the first five days to 150 in the last few hours as a direct result no doubt of SS interest on this topic. With two days left to go, sitting in the local Chinese earlier between starters and crispy duck, I had this horrible vision of this guy sitting there in a badly wallpapered room down the road going: "Margeret, Margeret" (long pause) (Margeret) "Yes dear" (distant voice from upstairs) "You know that Dobie Gray record we put up on e-bay?" (Margeret) "Yes, the one in the corner next to that fishing tackle?" "That's right dear, well there's two days to go and our e-bay site has been hit 100 times this afternoon alone" (Margeret) "Ooh, how much?" "I reckon old Jed was right and these northern soul guys have found it after all, and are all getting ready to "snipe" us with bis bids at the last minute" (Margeret) "Have we made our fortune then?" "I think we're about to". How disappointed will they be when the "auction over - no bids" email arrives on Saturday?
  4. Must be reading the same magazines as me - I heard that too.
  5. Thanks for the replies guys, ....I have also found one in my garage since the original post, and the next door neighbour is checking his old records to see if he has one as well as we speak . I see the seller is based down the road from me in Waltham Abbey, so I am wondering whether I should tell him to "dop bein' so stoopid" and to "shave three zeroes" off of the price.
  6. ...Hi Karen...that whole section of M25 is a disaster isn't it - hence the need for good CD's / tapes in the car....
  7. Have I missed some great UK rarity over the years. or is this, from completely nuts? https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...4074273805&rd=1
  8. J25 is worse!!!
  9. It's the "slippers" that kill us, but agree with recent posts on this front, an all round good egg, and the scene would be a far poorer place without him, and his enthusisasm.
  10. Agreed. He must be the most booked DJ on the scene - his diary is fuller than Russ W's recod box, so he cannot be that bad....

    Ed Bruce

I am after this one as well....
  12. Too young to be BB himself.
  13. Cheers - the beers are on me
  14. I think in fairness Winnie that's a mischarechertization of what GarethX was saying. Of course the music comes first, always ahead of "the Dick behind the Decks" everytime - certainly in my front room. In fact one of the most annoying traits of the northern scene is that too often DJ's with inflated ego's come ahead of the actual music. That being said I for one would expect a DJ to be playing varied sets, and something a bit different, rather than "best of dancefloor" front of house stomperettes. To fulfil my expectations (as a punter) they don't need to play an hour of tried and trusted oldies or any reissues. So in a sense DJ sets should be inspiring. And Gareth is right - too much knocking of younger DJ's. No pedestals needed in the DJ booth though.
  15. I think Russ Winstanley has an uncle down there, who gets him all the good sounds...
  16. 1. Of course 2. Of course
  17. If a punter asked me for Frank Wilson, I'd be proud to say "No". But that might explain why I don't really DJ on the northern scene.
  18. That would mean finding the 33rpm button, and remembering to put it back to 45 after you've played it
  19. ========= Why do DJ's need to play reissues anyway? Are there no longer enough reasonably priced originals that will fill the dancefloor without resorting to pressings? ....Or DJ's with enough imagination and gusto to seek out such sounds, and try them out?
  20. Yes, more likely to find it in the UK these days. Try Ft Lauderdale flea market if it's still on.
  21. No it hasn't been booted - demand comes from deep soul / Japanese collectors.
