  1. Quite true Alison, not to mention Mick H. Eric Sykes c/up is very old now, and is barely making it into the large "400 singles" box at the moment, let alone anything else. Enjoy the Orwell, and if asked, you ain't seen Dodger
  2. No joking mate, I have had three calls from Her Majesty's finest Soul Police this afternoon making "enquiries". I gather that the matter has now "fast tracked" up the chain of command to Deputy Commissioner Barnfather no less, who in turn has demanded written statements be on his desk by 09.00 Tuesday, in time for his next submission to "Manifesto". Can't say I didn't warn you there.
  3. Be careful there Dodger....or I'll have you reported to the soul Police
  4. There's a quite nice x-over track on it as I recall though it's not been off the shelves for a few years now....
  5. Yeah, excellent "fare" Christian!
  6. In all it's genres? So including R&B, beat ballads, 70's, slightly funky staff that "avante garde" DJ's may spin on occasions, Sam's "80's" which get aired on "northern floors" etc etc etc....goodness knows. I think the number of 30,000 was about right give or take a few thousand for traditional 60's early 70's uptempo records, but if you add in all these "fringe genres", who knows?
  7. He most certainly has not
  8. I agree, especially when some of the big Johnnies "cash in" their pensions, and empty their record boxes (to a degree that may be happening already!). Ironically I think certain "big ticket" items will hold their price - certainly for much longer - I am talking Lester Tipton / Al Williams / Billy Woods etc. because these are proven "desirables" and have more pedigree in "collector circles" (both sides of the Atlantic). And additionally to an extent these are "trophy" records in some people's minds (though they won't admit that!). So whilst there remains a degree of "scoffing" at the high prices such articles are attracting at auction, it may well be that these are the better "investments", for those that look at records in such a light. I think the mid price £100-£500 northern oldie is where we'll see the first area of "decline" in interest, and indeed I have read elsewhere some of the "pundits" at Prestatyn recently eluded to experiencing some "difficulty" in shifting such items.
  9. A current fave is the Starburst Band (you'll hear it at the weekend). I also mostly like Hutson's "Lucky fellow" this week.
  10. I'd need convincing that it's ever been "what's in the grooves that count" as far as some people are concerned.
  11. You are right it's changed again.... what is going on? Personally I think he has to cancel the auction and relist it.....
  12. # Thanks Hippo old man.
  13. Can someone advise what prices did the following three settle for? Paul Thompson Bobby Kline AL WIlliams Three great records, I'd be interested to know what these made Thanks....Steve
  14. You are right on Buss being much rarer than Mean Green Satin - I presume you mean "Your loves got me"? In which case cannot help.
  15. Rod has given a fair response on the authenticity of this record, date etc. I am a natural sceptic, and am rarely satisfied, but in fairness, I am also a person that will listen to reasoned debate / views. We await further with baited breath; but I wonder whether the full story on this 45 will ever be told.....
  16. I'm sure he'll thank you for revealing that to us. I had it down as a Russ Winstanley moment -
  17. It's a nice tale, but it doesn't explain the soopa shiny gloss on the vinyl, or the heavy press favoured from the late 90's on, or the computer fonts on the writing etc etc....my money is still on 99 or later.
  18. A record of Ebay - never heard of them, and they're not listed in the group harmony book either - Seriously though, care to expand - like what record?
  19. Hazel Martin looks like it was pressed at the same place.....another mystery (and a Beach record I'd wager). I think the Satin is a good song, but you can hear the recording start, after the needle has gone on the groove like an old emi disc. Another tell tell sign for John to add to his auction... I agree it's very poor that these things are happening - exactly the same thing has happened on the northern scene though, so we should not be surprised I guess.
  20. I still like the place, and often wonder what it must have been like in the 60s and 70's. The funny thing about "no northern soul" was that it was assumed that was what I wanted merely because I spoke with a London accent.
  21. Late 90's pressing for my money probably of an unissued thing. Don't know who did them, but I'd be tempted to look towards the Carolinas.....
  22. Amazing number of 0 feedback bidders on there.....
  23. The third one is called "Here I am" - it's actually quite a reasonable ballad / slowie - so I guess it won't make Pete S's wants list then....I got it in NY years ago for $2. What a shame it wasn't "I got it"...
  24. Cheers, I think that's vaguely the sort of area I was eluding to in my original response....as I did find a couple of shops down that way late last year. Do you agree on Grenwich? - the last time I went there I was in a shop and the guy detected my accent and snapped "no northern soul" without working out what I might be looking for. He was in the process of selling "Fish ain't biting" on 7" to some heavy Def Jam type DJ guys for $50 or something ludicrous. At that point I made my excuses and left.
  25. I wasn't doubting it for one minute - remember I got my Wil Collins & Willpowers in Mile End, Brand New in Petticote Lane etc....just a lovely and amazing find...S
