  1. I have one somewhere, I'll give it another listen based on your expression.
  2. Cheers -
  3. Well I suppose at least that music is "authentic" rather than "tailormadeformoddunsouldancing" - Goodness I am being controversial now.
  4. Nooooooooooooooooooo
  5. I was reading in the "Evening Sub Standard" on the train home tonight that they have gotten round the noise abatement people - they're turning the speaker walls "off" at midnight and giving the dancers "headsets", so that they can dance all night without disturbing the locals. Can't see that happening on our scene somehow
  6. Yeah I know. I saw that thread. I can of course do "side to side" music, but you have me pencilled in for one of your "Modern by Moonlight" events - do you want me to bring a "stompers set along" to that?
  7. Yes Frankie I am, and it's a "Crazy World" we live in
  8. Sounds a fair way of putting it.....
  9. Never been a fan of Kenny Thomas either.....
  10. Not feeling inclined to open up that old "Pandoras box" about what is / isn't "Nsoul" at this time of day. Glad someone likes it though, and I bet Pete S probably does too - I just don't class it as "credible" for the rare soul scene, and I don't think I am alone. Thought it was a joke when I first heard it at "Wigan" in 1980 - my opinion has never changed on it....God I hope it's not in the process of being "revived"
  11. Can we not dismiss all of the "Levine" productions? A couple were "reasonable covers" such as Johnny Bristol "Man up in the sky", but by and large as a genre we could largely write them off - couldn't we?
  12. Rock rubbish - no place at a soul venue.....

I don't know Taff - maybe less as a number of people do not recognise 12s as a "valid" vinyl format
  14. The Seeds "Pushing too hard" Lou Christie Lightening strikes Delrays Unlimited Destination unknown Teddy Vann Theme from Coloredman

Tim Brown's book values it at 250
  16. SBoy might want it at that price Christian - I don't. See you Friday. Steve

Ok cheers, not a million miles away and on the same train line for what it's worth.

    Ian, where is "East Herts"?

Can we settrle on 68-69? That way it stays within the definition of a "soul" record, which it most certainly is.

I'd be asking for my money back quote=petebangor,Mar 28 2005, 01:28 PM] Perhaps we need three room events One room for Northern one for northern that's percieved as modern one for proper modern Pete link

I thought it was more late 60's judging my the matrix number But I could be wrong - I have been wrong on this tricky thread once before. So Pete S would presumably also like things like the Aristocrats, in fact the uptempo "Mecca" type sound, when the Mecca was "cutting edge". Good, I thought for one moment that anything post 1969 was "condemned", I am glad it isn't.

Those two are bad enough Dave. My "least loved" 70's, and so so over rated.

What you mean there wasn't a Soussan "instrumental version" played at Wigan?
  24. Steve G replied to Pete S's post in a topic in All About the SOUL
Hey Pete - is this yet another "sub-genre"?

I think you've touched on another factor that hasn't helped the serious "vinyl head" in recent years, and may be a factor leading to fewer people wanting to part with their hard earned for "unknowns" - the proliferation of expensive "dodgy" 45's. Johnny Watson, 7 Wonders of the World, Vandals, Jeannie & Valaquons, David Rhodes, and a few records I've seen on E-bay recently that have enough gloss on the vinyl for the average male to safely use as a substiture for a shaving mirror without fear of "bladeslip". I remember one collector showing me one of the aforementioned, which he'd just "shelled out" a relatively serious wedge for, and looking totally deflated when being told it wasn't "real". I think he pretty much gave up the ghost after that.
