Sorry don't understand what you are saying. Call it "southern ignorance" if you wish. I thought "Padded Cell" were a group on Toddlin Town? Wakefield Prison? I know Wakefield Sun "Trypt on Love" from Wigan but not the prison? Who exactly is Roy Winstanly? A relation of Russ? If so, best not mentioned. Manchester "folk law"? "Dance music" - define that one if you can? Denis - this is not making much sense to me.

Inter City Soul Club
I think they also did a regular night in Bournemouth one summer (76?).

Thank you for bringing us back to relative sanity with those salient words Tony.

Hey Davie, welcome to a thread that isn't arguing about events "north of the border"

Records That Shouldnt Have Been Played 1st Time
I did exactly that when I pulled out "In the spirit" the other day - premature for a revival, but sounding good again... :

Label Designs.which Record /release Has The Most
Tim would know as it's one of his all time faves, if not No 1 as I recall. Also Lashawn Collins - at least three or four colours on that - red, yellow, green, blue etc. sorry cannot remember them all now...

Records That Shouldnt Have Been Played 1st Time
Talking of crap lyrics: "I'm in love with you, I hope you love me too, Oh,my aching heart, it's tearing me apart, ooh baby ooo ooo...." I know a lot of you on here like that record, so sorry couldn't resist that

Frank Wilson Pt 3
Was that the end price? It could of course have been John himself "buying it" because of the changed descriptions - i.e. making sure that the guy that had previously bid highest based on the "authentic mid 60's acetate" description didn't have to end up buying it, now that it's "outed" as a Soussan "one of three copies" affair. I'd like to think John would do something like that.

Frank Wilson Pt 3
New bidder right at the death!!! Despite the "revised" description.....

Value - Any Ideas?
There are some quite "bizarre" prices in these books - some rare records are remarkably cheap, others dangerously over-expensive....All it proves to me is that no one knows all there is to know about soul music, and long may that continue.

Is This Actually Barry White?
It did get spun somewhere, but it's not really that good - he kind of growls his way through the lines; accordingly it has been "filed away" in the "not needed for playing at the moment" and is gathering dust in the lock up.

A luxury cruise ship round the Med - now there's a good idea! You won't feel a thing rachel, as these ships are just sooo smooth. Hold up, have we just given Bexter another new idea for a promotion - if so Frankie claim your free tickets now for coming up with the thought..

Longer than that in fact "O". I found myself recently somewhat curiously pouring over some old "Black Music" magazines from the mid 70's and the days of Tony Cummins so called "expose's" of the northern scene. Basically where he took the mic out of all of the imperfections and flaws in our scene, rather than recognising it for what it was (DJ's playing "Hawaii 5-0" because "the kids wanted to hear it" etc.). In these articles there were a lot of quotes over the Casino / Mecca split - and what constituted "proper" soul. Levine "banned" from Wigan, "Ladies Choice" "banned" (both allegedly by Russ), and then the Mecca kids who were held us as champions (smartly dressed, into soul music etc etc).... In fact it seems to have been an "issue" ever since more than one decade of music was made. It's always been there, and I guess it always will be then....

Lee Barry to be precise e.g. on Downey

Or Veneica Wilson with it's programmed "string arrangement". I was talking to Eddie Hubbard at the "Wockit" when Levine played it - we both "sussed" it straight away. Mods - I think we need a "toilet" icon on here......

What Sam calls "pew drums" but the technical term is "syndrums"

Not at all uncommon at "gigs" to see 1 CD player in the modern room - this makes for a harder job if trying to string together a few new CD cuts in a rhythmic flow, especially for those of us who have "problems" playing these "neo-tailor made" 12s.

But remember we don't play Burgers on the modern soul scene...

Inter City Soul Club
They organised a weekender in Blackpool and then cancelled it. You could say they were ahead of their time on that basis.

Records That Shouldnt Have Been Played 1st Time
Col, I have to tell you that I am in writing as "dissing" this particular record right from the start - it is probably the group's WORST record. They have done a number of good ones, but "Party time man" ain't one of them.....See you at Essence.....
