Fair do's mate, I was probably over-dissing it in heinsight - if I didn't have the acetate I'd certainly play the released version no question.

Hard Piece
The B side is a brilliant mid tempo oldie - always rated it higher than "Nightlife"
-
Johnny Dollar
I also like his slow version of "Your love's got me" - whether it's the same "Johnny" or not I don't know - the name Johnny Dollar was a cult slang name for flash cats with plenty of green or something (early Yuppies?) in the 50's.

'S'alright Girth, the Wand mix didn't come out and was destined as a follow up to his released side on the label - but the Genoveze family called in their debts before it could come out ......BUT it is THE version and makes both the Wheelsville efforts sound decidedly mediocre and flat - with added Tom Moulton mixing "oomph" as well - I used to hammer it to mucho acclaim wherever I DJed.

Not the Wand mix though is it?

Leaders On Volt
Don't think it's that rare, but agree a goodie indeed. I also like their "Rat Race" which blows......

Unless anyone else replies will confirm next time I'm at the lock up.

Speed Dating And Sexy Soul
That's nothing mate - me mate Gavin used to DJ at a "Swingers" night in Brighton. On went the soul and off came the clothes - or at least that was the theory. I heard that the Manager / organiser got peed off because Gavin did such a good set that they were all dancing, when they should have been bunking off in pairs / threes etc. for unspeakable debauchery

Emmanuel Laskey
Does anyone know if Emmanuel is still around and kicking up some dust? I interviewed him on Soul 24-7 in 2001, and at that point he was still living in Detroit. I think he lived with his mum in an apartment in the projects, and I got the distinct impression that he'd seen better times. He gave a great interview, which I had to agree not to circulate, spoke fondly of all of his old recording days, but also how he had been ripped off by people taking his records etc. I know he was suspicious of people from England, and hopefully we helped restore a little trust. He'd also heard about the northern scene via people like JJBarnes etc. I was thinking that for someone who'se made so many GR8 recordings, he really is somewhat under appreciated.

Pro-fascination
Sure is. They did two on the label, and this one is the best. The Other one ain't up to that much but is OK.

Hardest Volt 45'
On an issue Derek (as opposed to a DS WD) I rate Ilana as quite tough. She was from Pa. I think.
-
Absolute Howlers
Perhaps because it was outed as a scam and wasn't really Dena at all?

Hardest Volt 45'
Youy reg see the Admirals at 125. Bessie Banks doesn't show that often, but agree it's cheap when it does. One of the last ones to grace my collection was The Martians which is a comedy record and not northern, and although only a fiver, I don't reckon you see it that often. I think one of the Hot Sauce ones is quite tough too, but can't remember which one.....

Soul Harmony Singles
I couldn't remember yesterday on account of the large volume of plonk consumed saturday evening - but do now - it's A&R Booksearch.

Soul Harmony Singles
Chalkmeister - did you try that on line book shop in Cornwall (St Ives I think)? That's where I got mine - though it was some years back

What Is Northern Soul On Ebay?
Niet Comrad. The land north of Alaska is unoccupied, that is until you reach the Northern shores of the former Soviet Union (at which point you are actually heading due south, but that is immaterial as your compass will have stopped working a long time ago). This I contend must surely be the TRUE home of Northern Soul? The Northern Seaports of the former Soviet Union are awash with oil, rusting Naval vessels, rare vinyl, small unknown singers and hitherto undiscovered record labels. All greatfully supported by Comrade Roman Abramnovich.

Anyone Out There Know This, What Do You Think?
Doh! I was thinking of dropping it at Cleethorpes, but maybe it's a bit too dated for the modern room - B side is great deep / sweet too

"i'll Be True"
It was the last record on the label and presumably the "isshoes" didn't get much further than the factory before the label went "tits up". Beware the double sided demo without "IBT" on. I have an issue copy, but I rolled my DJ chair over it while at 24-7 in a moments over indulgance doing my "Smashey & Nicey" routine. Being of the "styrene" variety of pressing it is now complete "avec un crack de hairline".

What Is Northern Soul On Ebay?
- Anyone Out There Know This, What Do You Think?
Presumably a version of the thing on Accent - which I have always quite liked!- London Soul Events
Absolutely cool Gal ! No need for apologies or stuff like that.- I Miss My Baby Is This Legit ?
A poor picture but looks well moody with moulded label. As they say on Ebay "Caveat Emptor". Looks like a boot to me.- 1980's Northern Low Point
Bon soir, et merci beaucoup!- Manship Auction Prices
Great 60's soul, and there is a big difference between 60's and Northern at times - Anyone Out There Know This, What Do You Think?
