  1. No Johnny Williams then?
  2. Yes a lot of people do - but as Paddy says they're not the same. In the Basement magazine has a feature on Chris Clark in the next issue.
  3. Mentioning the Clark's does anyone know who Connie Clark was? A real mystery this.
  4. On first seeing some northern soul dancing my son broke out into uncontrollable guffaws of laughter / snortling etc, and started making comments like "how sad / gay is that?" and sneering "Is that what you do Dad?" etc. I however have the last laugh as he is now chasing a bird who'se - wait for it - into northern....so he keeps ringing me up every five minutes asking me about records...... From Drum & Bass to the Casualeers & Chuck Jackson in less than 6 months - and all because of a woman....
  5. Cheers. Think I had the 4th one after Dave Welding, Butch, and Mick Smith.
  6. Thanks John - I stand corrected. Has anyone actually seen / got a copy of LMW on Palladium?
  7. I have yet to see or hear any real evidence of this, though have heard the same rumour.
  8. You'll be positively drooling "O" when you hear the new Ralph Soul Jackson
  9. You might have to wait a while there Dodg - the next article is on his exploits in Spain.
  10. Tend to extol on the record collecting side rather than the dancing / clubbing side of things - when they hear how much we pay for excloosiv tunes most mates think I am nuts, but look quietly impressed at the same time.
  11. As others have said both sides have been played for years now, the A side being the most popular - always a packer. This record has a varied cover up history: Dave Welding covered the A side as "Means of Escape" Butch and Mick Smith covered the A side as "Eric Lomax" as did everyone else who had it Dave Welding and I both referred to the B side "Girl don't leave me" as "Troy Johnson" Sam meanwhile covered the B side up as "Major Harris"
  12. Somewhere north of 250
  13. Interestingly this was "mixed" for a 12 - got an acetate of it off Tim Ashibende a few years ago - and it's 3 mins longer than the elpee version.
  14. Very common for artists to not know that their product was released....
  15. Rebels was great - think Gary Rushbrooke also DJed at one as well - those hippies falling down the stairs before we were let in, being sick etc....a memory that will always be with me. I also liked the All Dayer that BG and RS did - two rooms one J/F one Modern.
  16. Fabulous night - no "makeweights" on that line up Paul does make a fair point, and so do others - so categories so far: Best live artist Best new Act Best new discovery Best lesser known Oldie revived Longest serving DJ Best newcomer DJ and Top record dealer possibly We could go on for ever......
  17. I think it's just as well Keith cannot remember some of the stuff he played at Wigan in 78 Is he denying all knowledge of Muriel Day, Jackie Trent, Barry St John, Judith Durham, Sandy Shaw etc....?
  18. For Sam's 60th a number of people clubbed together and bought him a new record box - would be a fitting award for a DJ lifetime achievement award. Or a pair of gold plated headphones on a plinth possibly might be another suitable memento
  19. I thought you had this when you were buying all those indies off of soul bowl in the mid 80's stuart?
  20. You DO NOT want this - quite nice for about two lines but then very repetitive IMVHO. Soul Bowl sold one at Prestatyn for £100.
  21. Dont have sound on my PC but it's not Volstarr on fee is it? Someone did tell me it was played at Wigan
  22. Yeah white boys. Same as David Geddes a David Cassidy lookalike - Still like the records though.
  23. They've been great with me. Recommended!
  24. Remember one night where there were about 50 of them and they came after a load of us off the Crewe train. All long haired hippies and scummy pizzEds. Some of us agreed we'd had enough of this and to stay put and see them off - but when we looked round suddenly there were only four of us left , so hiddeously outnumbered we had to dive into this shop with a long entrance way,. Anyway they all went past up the hill chasing these soulies, and when they went back past down again we came out and carried on walking...... Yes and if you locate their website they will tell you that the origins of "Soul Crew" lie in the roots of NS late 60's and early 70s - obviously a thriving "soul" scene then back in Cardiff.
