  1. Tony is right but I have heard it played more in the south now that I think about it. more of a southern sound then?
  2. Prevent people from identifying what you're playing Now who would want to do that
  3. Yep I think I agree. Depends on my mood which one I prefer.
  4. Plinston next - but that'll be mainly northern but with some 70s.
  5. Saw Adey Pierce had one on Ebay - not sure if it's finished yet. Another one that resides down the road from you.
  6. Hi Jordi Less than it should have I think - $99 with a couple of days to go - I reckon it's harder than S.I.F.M.B. Just love that stepper feel - reviewed it in the last Soul Essence programme. Steve
  7. Agree Jordi there was one on Ebay last week I think - excellent and far superior to their other one.
  8. 500 produced but I think sales were poor, so whether all 500 are in circulation at this point who knows. It was connected to Soul Bowl in some way I seem to recall. Agree great LP
  9. Err no actually Gavin - this didn't fool all of us nor did David Rhodes fakes nor did Jeannie & Valaquons etc....some of us "sussed" them right from the off.
  10. Rog we disagree - but I did enjoy sharing a few non alcoholic pints with you at the Bass Museum oN SUnday
  11. Funny I was offered a copy of Darryl Stewart "Name it and clain it", on the basis that it was different to "Name it and claim it" - but I decided for a one letter mis-spint I'd buy something else
  12. ....and just to remind everyone Edward was about 14 when he made that.
  13. Extremely!
  14. Well let me attempt to answer that Stuart - if your musical taste in soul is broad then you will like the vast majority of records on those labels. I'm probably about 10 away from complete runs on those three and whilst there is some crap, it is most definately in the minority. You can also add in labels like Minit, Loma, Hi, Veep, Revilot, Goldwax, SS7/77, Golden World, koko, Ric Tic, Checker, T/M, Glades / Alston, Westbound (pre 77), Stax and Motown. Not to mention the minor label stuff with fewer releases - but all high calibre - Chi Heat (3), Sonar (3), So Jamm (2 but probably more to be discovered), Roker (5) Soul Clock etc etc....and then we're onto all the other oddball stuff as well. The point is simple to me - on the major labels I can pull a handful off of the shelf of any of those labels and always find something that catches my ears and mood, be it deep soul, funk, northern, sweet, midtempo, or just a good tune that you cannot pidgeonhole. Some of these will be familiar, others not. As well as playing records that you know and love, to me the quest is always to find something that excites you and that you are either not familiar with, or have forgotten about. Cheers Steve
  15. Funny thing is I know of some big name "DJs" that don't have anything of substance by any of the above - maybe a "Run for cover" or the odd "Jackie Wilson".....and they look blankly when such names are mentioned in mixed company.
  16. Cheers and interesting stuff Paul.
  17. Yes OK acet**e - It's got a harder beat than the issued version, but agree not very far away - bit longer too. Think Stokes musyt have been the lead singer.
  18. Back to the original point of the thread though - regardless of whoever owns the "rights" to the music, to me recording a set without someone's knowledge in the way described does not sound ethically correct either - two wrongs don't make a right in the new world do they?
  19. Didn't think his name was Gavin either.... Serious question are any reissue CD's selling anything like 4,000 copies?
  20. Which one "Tim" or "Gordon" ??? Always been a collector, but DJ occasionally when asked. Would like to DJ a bit more, but am a collector first.
  21. Also done by Mike Stokes on a demo Slightly more of a dance version.
  22. "Georgia on my mind"
  23. I got a great version of William deVaughn's "Be thankful for what you got" on a rock LP somewhere.
  24. The Jameco verssion was the NY release as I recall. Got it somewhere - nice 45
  25. Hi Molly, The song itself isn't actually a one off. What I played was a better mix (on Frankford / Wayne acetate) of TUME's "Love shortage". You can get the original version (mix) is on their MGM LP. It was also listed as coming out on 45 on MGM, but cannot recollect seeing one just now. I think it's also on some UK 90s compilation as well. Cheers Steve Simon some of us have been playing acetates on the modern scene for many years now :-)
