OK so I have looked at them, the only difference in them in some were not distributed by Scepter, and that would have been the first press run for the Texas market. However Scepter distributed it pretty much straight away, so its contemporaneous, maybe a month later not like its a bootleg or a recent job.
-
I've not heard of a second issue, it was originally one of Huey Meaux's Jetstream records that Scepter distributed. That might be where the confusion is coming from. Who is saying its a second issue I can compare it to mine (orig) if you want?
-
Didn't think it was bootlegged?

There was never "earn your way onto the dance floor" anyway. First time at Wigan just went onto the floor whenever I wanted and near the front too…..all these urban myths

Excellent information, certainly fills in some gaps!

Discotays yes, they were the studio band as Scepter who also recorded an LP on Pricewise (v rare but not v good). Vocal version of Jerkin Around by The Diplomats, and available on Kent CD. In providing this info it is on condition that it doesn't join the repertoire of there Penkhull Ukelale band

Isley Brothers "110Th And Lenox" Does It Exist?
Steve G replied to Steve G's topic in Look At Your Box
Yes another copied error from Billboard I am afraid. -
Isley Brothers "110Th And Lenox" Does It Exist?
Steve G replied to Steve G's topic in Look At Your Box
And thats the point Robb, if the Isleys had recorded that track and it had emerged on a Stargazed of Ace CD of unissued material I might be persuaded, but they didn't - and one of them has put out all of the unissued Isleys stuff. So it's down to journalistic error as far as I can tell. Matt I haven't contributed to any of the Wand discographies, so I am not asperged LOL and indeed they are confusing. This is because the company scheduled in releases before they pressed the records or even had the rights to them in some cases. Same is true with Scepter's discography which hosts some ghost releases too. And the discographers have just copied the mistakes across. No Just Brothers on Wand, this was pencilled in before Pete Garris had started his own label Garrison. Earl King's second release doesn't exist either. These were tracks recorded for an aborted Atlantic album…that Toussaint had worked on, but which he couldn't agree a price with Atlantic on. The first 45 didn't sell and Wand passed on the opportunity for the 2nd. -

Not mine….what's troubling you? I might be able to help. -
Isley Brothers "110Th And Lenox" Does It Exist?
Steve G replied to Steve G's topic in Look At Your Box
Looks like a Billboard cock up, which is not surprising as there were plenty as they rushed through all the new releases each week. No sign of the Isleys even recording the song either. -
This is an interesting thread and I'd certainly like to learn more about the Miami Tropical label and what all of the missing numbers are…That Alberta Baker is a totally ameteur recording, it doesn't even sound like it was done in a studio! Fascinating.

Here we go again, guesswork and speculation. Make it up as we go along…. Thomas Rouse was a DC promotor, it's widely accepted that Fairmount came first (Beverly had already had a record on Fairmount before this (She kissed me), Rouser came second, but there probably wasn't a great time difference between the two. I'd say less than a year. Whether the Rouser issue was licensed or not - we don't know and maybe someone should ask Frankie Beverly before his memory goes. There may well be a logical explanation for a local or second issue on Rouser in DC. As for the El Corols Rouser release being a bootleg - that record was about a year later than "Because of my heart" (Jan 67 for Frankie Beverly). Tiny Records was the label of one of the band members Tiny Barge, again there may have been an agreement for Rouser too also press it up. My tuppence worth, we just don't know for sure (yet!) so lets not make it up guys (and gals).

No Gareth, disappointing.
-
Really? I'd rather listen to R4 or R5 than listen to these "timeless classics" for another time...
-
Its a different song Gareth. Not the same as the TSOP one at all. Steve
