  1. You have to remember Simon that many of us were NOT fooled by these things and cottoned onto them as FAKES soon as we heard them or saw the records (tell Ian programmed strings maketh not a 60s record and the Damon pressing plant in Middlesex is a dead giveaway as well). So all this b*ll*cks about us being taken in is once again wholly inacurate - the records were controversial from the start. I DO recall Ian getting very upset when I and others said so, and denying it forcefully, but this isn't mentioned in the "re-write". SO this just looks like a poor and incorrect account of what actually happened. The reality was that Ian was adamant that these were legit 45s from the 60s, and at the time it had absolutely nothing to do with trying to show us "know noughts" that a good northern soul record could be made 30 years later. I wish some people could move on from regurgitating the 4 Vandals before we all fall asleep of boredom. Steve
  2. So it's now OK not to send records that have been paid for? Not to send money for records you've received? To constantly have to be chased up? OK I understand the rules now.....
  3. Poo Pan is another odd label name, and whilst we are on the lavatorial side of things Big John is another, with a picture of a toilet as it's logo.
  4. Karl I am sorry that you've had this experience. The Ian guy, the subject of this thread, seems to have numerous issues, and I am all in favour of naming and shaming those that don't treat their customers with respect, or send records or payment when they've entered into a sale. Naming these goons is a public service that helps prevent others falling into the same trap.
  5. Good question and one I asked, it's the length of the track! 2 mins 25 secs
  6. Escorts "By the time I get to Phoenix" On the UK front I've always had a soft spot for Wayne Fontana's give me just a little more time.
  7. Did this get issued - thought it was only on a promo LP thingy?
  8. I think Tone is using a bit of poetic license there - I have a London demo, there's no snap crackle or pop. Just has to be one of the best double siders of all time and an essential in one format or another for every soulfan. I'm a London boy myself, those Stateside reissues I can leave. Ha!
  9. Yes I am the same 2 days from California is my "record" - but that was via UPS rather than regular mail. Like Pete I think 3-5 days is what it normally takes here. Six weeks at the other end of the spectrum for me, but I know surface can take longer than that.
  10. Very strange presumably the disc would go to the real person rather than the hacker in such a case?
  11. Gavin I agree. I know two of the others bidders on it, and one of them was always going to get it. Steve
  12. Don't frett Sigher - it's a cheapo.
  13. "Visually fair with constant noise". Sounds like one to cut / saw the label out and stick on your record box.
  14. Looking at his other prices for UK records, I think he cannot be the full bag of shopping.

  16. Got sent two copies of the 12 by Curtis himself when we tracked him down in 1981.
  17. I have the Gheto Children "It's not easy to say goodbye" roulette 45 with a seven minute mix on a 10" acetate. That would have been 75. The 12 " was a natural progression from records with a Part 1 and Part 2 which meant that DJ's didn't need to have two copies. I also remember Moulton saying that you could get better sound quality with a 12.
  18. Motown had one of the first ones I think. Early 1976 was the first year. Before then I know Tom Moulton for one had ben experimenting with extended mixes.
  19. Agree "Are you for real" is the side - just dug it out. Also they did another duet on Pzazz "Just a little step" which is pleasant without being outstanding.
  20. Now I've read that I am tempted to agree. It may well have been pressed twice. Mine is vinyl but has no raised "X" like yours, and it was bought years ago from a reputable source.
  21. the boots just have Tampete 5444 A and B in the run out
  22. Russ certainly reviewed it in Black Music at the time. Top tune, as is the Dee Dee Barnes.
  23. What else on a Monday night? Enamons Orchestra
  24. A nice big glass of red wine should help
