  1. Agree with you on that
  2. There's no money in running a soul shop. If there was more people would be doing it. Keep being a gasman - sorry. Steve
  3. The Flaming Emeralds did "Have some everybody", not the Flaming Ember. The lead singer on "Have some everybody" was James Mitchell from the Detroit Emeralds - most definately not blue eyed.
  4. Ha! It's actually me, Sam and Arfa. What's with all this Rod Stewart stuff on here peeps? I am fully expecting one of you to pop up and tell me that "Sailing" is a soul classic next......
  5. Fantastic record Dylan! as Sean H says the northern scene has always ben awash with hot box types, must admit it's not a thing that has ever appealed to me. Fortunately I've never had to sell up, as over the years I would have sold some pretty damn fine records.
  6. Is this the "Monday Joke" Pete??? Attrocious butchery of a damn fine soul record if anyone asks me.
  7. Ba ba ba da da da da Huh! Der der...der der....der der derrrr.... People...come together now... ba ba ba da da da da
  8. Blue eyed???? Never!!! your confusing the Flaming Emeralds with the Flaming Embers - Emeralds were connected to the Detroit Emeralds.....and not blue eyed.... My ones are International IV "Equal love" and the Hot Sauce cover up "Pride" (Sam's Candy Coated People c/up). Confusing eh?
  9. Sorry Phil, nothing really there that I need. Steve
  10. I just love the way they are m,ounted on a grotty piece of 2" x 2" wood. Real class that!
  11. What an awful record - a real dirge. Makes "L Allen" sound credible
  12. Unlike me I know but I have amassed a few spares over the years, either picking up second copies or replacing demos with issue copies..... Here goes 1. Arnold Blair "Trying to get next to you" (Gemingo Demo) E- £125....my old DJ copy a few marks but plays absolutely great 2. Channel 3 "The sweetest thing" (Dakar WD) SOLD.... 3. The Intrigues "Fly now pay later" (Janus WD) SOLD 4. Noah "Got to get away" (Candy Stix) M- £50 5. Ray J & Norma Jean "This is ouir song of love" (Hep me) SOLD 6. Cozy Corley "I love you" (Malaco).E...£50 - rare early deep soul from this label 7. Child of Friendship Train Robbers "Will you answer" (SA). E (one mark does not affect play) - killer sweet soul from St Pete £35 8. The End Results "Reminiscing" (Motion City) E+ ....sweet soul with a slowish funky B side £35 P&P - UK 2.00 recorded, £4.50 registered. (Overseas, I'll have to go down the PO....) If interested pm me - I accept cheques and PP (paypal add 4% please) Cheers Steve
  13. WHAT????? Rod Stewart can sing?????? Rod Stewart has committed more crimes against soul music than anyone else I can think of on a sunday morning - and that includes the Stones. Have you ever heard his appalling versions of "If loving you is wrong", "Oh no not my baby" etc. He butchered these records and there's no sign of any singing on them as far as I can hear, just awful off key croaking......total sh*te - YUK
  14. I think there are quite a few that do this. my contributiion Stevens & Foster
  15. I have an acetate of this, which almost got played at Letchworth last night (but I chickened out). It's not a bad version at all. Steve
  16. Yes you never did explain why
  17. Yeah have to agree with the quality of this side.....I haven't heard Jimmy Delphs for so long it would be unfair of me to draw a comparrison......
  18. God there's a forgotten oldie - black Canyon label? My copy distorts a bit but I think they all might do....
  19. You cheeky beggar - and please leave my vinyls out of it too.....
  20. Aye, and they say that all the money is down south....I tell you you can't sell anything over a fiver in a London gig these days
  21. Much much rarer than Tolbert
  22. Sorry guys I just do not view the Mecca stuff as being modern soul. It was never termed as such at the time and it certainly doesn't sound modern. I do understand you could argue it was modern at the time compared to 60's. To me modern soul is post Y2K stuff. In the early 80's the term was used to describe what was then modern soul (i.e. releases from 1977-1984 etc) - i.e. the Sam, Arthur Richard etc spins of that period. However I don't think you can use the same phrase to describe these records 25 years on. I prefer the term 70s / 80s soul, as I think it is more descriptive. Steve
  23. yEs indeed, I'd forgotten about Gordon Berry. I haved a copy of that and we reckon it was withdrawn - maybe because of the name which sounds suspiciously too close to Berry Gordy for his liking.
  24. Mind you if he'd turned up with a copy in his box, I might well have sent him packing again
