  1. Erm, we already have that Col- and it's ridiculously expensive
  2. I can't stand that "Tribute to Betty" thing! Give me Betty Wright's original "Tonight's the night" any day of the week. The Soul Police are on the warpath......
  3. Young Divines is Fabulous - so much so it came out twice on th same label.
  4. As I said the last time this came up - the ONLY use for this record is to cut it out and stick it on yer rekkid box. Alternatively save yourself 2,750, cut out the photocopy of the label and stick it over some cheapie - I promise no one will ever know the difference
  5. For me it would be one of Flashlight Patterson Twins c/u Daybreak c/u If you haven't heard them this won't mean a lot to you. If you have you might just agree.
  6. WILL dig it out at the weekend 4 you
  7. I got a red stock issue. They do exist.
  8. Isn't this precisely what Keb Darge has done? Don't think he's alone either.
  9. It was a mis press. Label says Vicky Anderson, plays Rain. Steve
  10. He was one of us in the early 80s yes....but my point is merely play McNeir now and at least half the punters don't know it. AND it sounds really good again
  11. Just seen who it is....I am surprised!
  12. But it's also a GREAT record that mopst certainly hasn't had it's day yet.
  13. Thanks for posting this Malc. I was interested because "Room at the Back" crossover/ 70s - Y2K nights in Derby have also just finished - similar reason really lack of attendance. Again they had some great DJ's. I actually, and rather controversially perhaps, think that DJs have less / limited pull compared with times gone by. I think the number of DJ's who'll make a difference to an attendance you can count on one hand and still have enough fingers left to eat peanuts comfortably. Plenty of gigs have struggled with top line ups - even the last soulshakers suffered on a crowded weekend. I also think that people are becoming less willing to go out - partially because they're getting older by and large and secondly because many now get their fix at the ever expanding number of weekenders out there. I am sorry Mex has come to an end. Also sorry that the proliferation of venues locally - presumably staid oldies - has had an affect on attendances. It comes down to the point that SHS Dave puts on his posts - support your local night, or it may not be there any longer. Steve
  14. Likewise Pete I have had things turned up in ONE piece that have been just wrapped in a padded envelope; really caused me to wonder how they've travelled thousands of miles, through several high volumes mail sorting centres, and still not got damaged. Yet some of tghe best packaged items still get crushed
  15. Its a red label from down south - issued about 1970. Average girl is of course an answer to the Masqueraders "I'm just an average guy" and while we are on the subject the Latin Breed's version is also pretty cool.
  16. Blenders is great northern:thumbsup:
  17. BTW Derek, recently picked up Sam's Velma Perkins off of him
  18. "New" sounds don't tend to be cheap
  19. Thanks for clearing that up Tone I was starting to worry about an early onset of Alzheimer's ever since I saw the link to Linda Carr.
  20. Must admit I didn't know it was Linda Carr - or must have forgoten it if I did know it. I had always assumed they were a creation of Leviathan Quite liked the record at the time, but then I also liked Tommy Hunt "Loving on the losing side" on the same label. I always thought it was a good record in it's own right.
  21. Not sure there are that many Japanese collectors left at the moment Paul? I am sure "Them" on here or someone can tell us for sure though. Many of the big in demanders in recent years have in part been sourced from Japan, and re-imported into the UK. Some of the comments on this thread generally however are nausiating. Three points to remember: - It takes at least two bidders for a price to stick, not just one looney tune operating in isolation - this auction site is clearly viewed by many more people than any list or record box that's trawled around nighters, and has a global audience, including other scenes such as funk etc. - people on auctions such as this are, because of the way the auction is configured (with maximum bids) likely to bid more to "knock out" the competition. Some of the auction prices do go crazy - Detroit sounds of Friction being a recent example - can only assume that's because at least two people have put in very high bids to secure (this also happens on Ebuy). I have won two items in the last 12 months off of the JM auction - a rare UK item at around 400 (not Yuro or Banks far rarer than both of them) and a rare deep soul item at under 250, and am happy with both. and also happy to face off any of you who wish to be critical because I bid and won those two items , so you see it's not all megabucks and idiots with too much money. Steve
  22. It actually sounds just right for today - very nearly played it at Essence, think it's better than the other side now. As for soundclip, sorry Mike technophobe here.
