There are plenty of records at least as rare as Frank Wilson, if not rarer; as for prices at the high end they tend to be kept low key rather than "blagged" about. This in turn leads to wide speculation and incorrect guessing. One record I've heard involving a top northern DJ recently has stories ranging from 3k to 12k for example, and I really have no idea which is correct. Anyway, some food for thought.....
Reminds me of a story of a swingers club someone on here was DJing at - and he knows who he is . The organisers got miffed because everyone was dancing rather than getting it on (or off)
Dunno but I think there's probably no more than six or seven of these. Fab record b.t.w.
As for the Redd Coach release without "I saw you there" - probably 350-400 English?
As per my Blog Unique Blend cleared the floor friday....
Normally I want a record or two to clear the floor once or twice in a set!!!!
Anything less and the set is too safe.....
....The one in Sam's box was about 2-3 years ago, and I got it. I think he wanted 200 for it and we agreed on 170 - 175 or something. Which was about right - actually I now think it was under priced as this is so much harder to find than say Jean Battle "I've got to come in" which is going for big moneeee....
Anyway have always loved this side.....fantastic record in fact, I just wish I could play it out more...It was also interesting to read her interview in "in the basement", think she described this period in her life as making "the devils music" or something like that.....Steve
Fantastic! To me this is what soul is all about - the vocals are great too!!!
When oh when is Don Cornelius going to get his thumb out of his aaaahhhh and legally re-issue this stuff?
Rain is promised so will dig out an old review or two in Blackbeat -we covered all of these events back in the day you know......and only now are we starting to realise the value of all that manic typing and publishing
Tony I distinctly remember THREE venues in Clapham - 101 Club, an upstairs pub up Lavender Hill (Coronet?), and a third venue with a bar at the side and a stage at the end - sorry can't be more descriptive right now but it was pretty close to the 101 Club. Clarky was involved in all 3 as it was in the famous days of "Top Flat" in Wandsworth Rd.
Yes there was at least a one off there - then was also one further up Lavender Hill (cue to thread on British films), and it came after F.A.T.J. which was surely at the 101 Club which was the original FATJ surely????
I remember walking in there as Tony Ellis was playing "My baby loves me" by Raftha Meeves & The Mandellas. Also remember Sadane"One minute from love" also got a spin. Dave Thorley was there, as were all the usual London hoi poloi and 6Ts blaggards that we all were.
Ozsoul - I did a review of FATJ in an old Blackbeat and this included the sounds played - if it rains on saturday I'll try and find it.
Right I have now been through all the Golden World records
Of all of them the only ones with "Bell Sound" are 17 and 18, all of the others were pressed at Columbia.....
I think 17 and 18 may well have been pressed at the same time....maybe Columbia had a backlog or something!
Steve
Oh ffs, I don't normally get dragged into these UK pop fest debates, but this has been bugging me....so I've gone into the British collection and found my copy - yes it's "Great to be livin", but there is NO mention of Irleand. Cheers, Steve
Probably no other reason than the releases were done on a one by one basis early days....so they probably changed plants like we might change erm trousers
Columbia pressed their stuff for them, and there's no real rhyme or reason as tol whether they were stamped or just had the number etched in writing. Except most of the styrene ones were stamped. Beware though as some of the titles were booted with scratched in numbers.
Thanks for the timely reminder as to why I don't waste my money (and time) on "The Observer" ......I'd rather watch paint dry than be wound up by some second rate know nought psuedo-journalist
