  1. Funny thing is I distinctly remember a couple of years ago Vincent coming on here and mercilessly slagging Russ off. He was going on about how Russ only had 25 records now, refused to allow filiming of himself DJing - on the premise that he only had reissues and pressings in his box and didn't want anyone to see that......was rude etc etc....Vincent had a right old 'pop'. Now they're buddies again and I can go to Wigan to get my photo taken with them both? WOW! If people want to dance in a shopping centre to those old Wigan memories etc fine, that's up to them, but spare me the "Soul Brothers" photo shoot please!
  2. Had it for years mate - it's one that Dean and myself used to enthuse about some years ago.
  3. I thought he came on here for about two days then left again. Think that was when he was doing his "Northern soul museum" or "Degree in Northern Soul history" course or something last year.
  4. think I have the lp (I was a prolific Motown LP collector ), though I've never played it. The Abbey Tavern is still going strong, and the Singers do their thing on a nightly basis for tourists who can bare an hour long trip north from Dublin.....though when I was there last year we made sure there were no anti Brit songs - all their material these days is "boy likes the girl he can't have" Irish folk fare. A couple of the band looked old enough to be on the VIP LP. Big tourist thing the Abbey Tavern but the Guiness they serve is GOOD.
  5. Nice one Paul....
  6. Plenty of soulheads in London; the problem is getting them out to venues....and I'm as guilty as the next person on that score
  7. Fascinating Paul, Ian could have spoken to me if he feels that way, and as I have said before I do not have a personal grudge against him. I stand by the David Rhodes story, but if he's feeling hurt I am happy to put a sock in it and move on. However Ian should do the same and stop knocking us all in his interviews...that would be fair I think? Steve
  8. Hi Paul, so am I to infer from the above that you agree with Ian's tactics of selling fake records at a high price?....Surely not. And not sure a friend of mine from Glos who traded a Tangeers on O'Keh for David Rhodes in a straight swap would quite see it that way either. Steve
  9. Wash your ears out man
  10. Is that "Funny" or something else?
  11. Isn't it just - it's a brilliant scene they have over there.
  12. Have a nice holiday Phil. Presumably this thread will disappear now for a while.....
  13. Think we've all got it....
  14. I have actually asked Mike why he gave over valuable "Manifesto" space to this interview. As for the fake records, it's certainly something that Ian shouldn't boast about, and it didn't stop with Venecia Wilson or the 4 Vandals either -David Rhodes - actually a pretty good record of his (an acetate in the 70's, pressed in the late 90s and sold off to people as "original copies found in Danny Leake's basement" - more deceipt and rubbish.
  15. "You've got to try it again" - the hardest one by her to pick up methinks, and a gr8 70s dancer.
  16. Michael Proctor He's had that especially cut onto a 7"
  17. Well Dave that really depends on your view of whether a 1,700 allnighter is better than a 100 evening do. I have to say in recent years I've enjoyed myself far more at the latter type events where I find the atmosphere more intimate and the variety of sounds (and DJ's!) far greater....but then again I am not someone who is trying to recreate my youth at Wigan so the 1,700 allnighter dancing to Jackie Lee and "Astral Trip" all night ain't really my bag The smaller promotors just HAVE to keep plugging their events, and long may it continue.....
  18. Hmmm...I bought them both from JM in the 70s - "All of my life" sounds great again..
  19. I was over in May, but when I come back I'll time it to coincide with something......
  20. Yes you do - it's just you must have missed all of Sam's spots for the last five years Uptempo and funky in Harlow - now there's a thought
  21. Repress or boot then....bet the vinyl is heavy and really shiny
  22. I think as time has gone on...... 1) The number of people collecting vinyl (especially 60s) had declined - remember how it was years ago versus now.....These days a lot of people use CD's, MP3s, downloads etc etc 2) many of those who do buy vinyl are trophy hunters who all want the same "rekkids" 3) there's more to life than records - if you got a choice between having a luxury holiday or buying a record, more people now would go for the former. My tuppence worth
  23. This thread is really interesting, and having made some comments on me blog last week on this very topic, I am delighted to know that I am not alone :-)
  24. With a title like "Nobody likes me", it's never gonna be in demand....
  25. I think the thing that upset me most about the interview was his vitriol and animosity........he is obviously still an angry man.
