  1. No didn't know that, and I do wish I had believed him and gone down there for that. He was a really nice guiy when I spoke to him, and I am glad he made $$$ out of that slippery Phil Collins success.
  2. Exactly the same as me Dave, and I agree with your sentiment entirely.
  3. I am getting confused now - is Pro2026 saying there's a version of Funky Corners on Chess, or an instrumental of Am I the same girl. Soulful Strut used to always get played at the discos in Kent in the 70's, and there are several other versions of it about as well.
  4. I went to a friends wedding in the south west last saturday. I can honestly say it was the worst disco I have ever heard. Some of the girls on the table I was on asked for some Motown, cos they liked "dancing to it". So the DJ played two Supremes records No soul was played at all, and in the end I went and had a look at his screen to see what he hadon his laptop - looking for something cheesy like "Ain't no mountain" - and guess what he didn't even have that. No Philly at all. Truly dreadful - so I just kept drinking beer
  5. Just had a look through all the Chess records and I don't think that is so.
  6. Interesting theory I'll have a listen to the \Loma side tomorrow
  7. So that's five of us that prefer the flip side - thank goodness for that!
  8. FF for that Adam. Thought I was going bonkers for a moment there!
  9. I think it was a dance where four of you stand in corners (i.e. to make a square type shape) and move in and out both together and in turn (a bit like the "hokey kokey" then ). I would be willing to demonstrate this dance at a venue, but need at least three willing victims to show it to full effect. Some venues I've been to recently wouldn't be able to put on the "Funky 16 Corners " unless the DJs and bar staff joined in
  10. Am I the only person that thinks the B side is ten times better?
  11. Great, can we close the thread down then?
  12. Funny but my son thinks we're all a sad bunch of tired old losers .....But he does like a few records like Dean Parrish, Younghearts, some Motown and most surprisingly The Royal Esquires cos he thinks it's like a drum'n bass record That being said, his musical taste does seem to follow that of whatever his current girlfriend likes.
  13. Some people do say that about me It DID start life as the Funky 4 Corners (a dance), then became the Funky 8 Corners and I think I have one called "Funky 16 corners" somewhere as well.....
  14. Sorry D'Arcy, I am in a silly mood tonight
  15. My price was for buying! 25p for selling
  16. G'wan tell him Taff, or I might have to
  17. Absolutely it was - a straight lift off of Willie & Mighty Magnificents old tune, beefed up and re-recorded - but unmistakably within the "4 Corners" of the original
  18. He certainly did know about THAT record's popularity - that's why it got re-issued. It is of course as well as being a good record a straight update of "Funky 4 Corners" The write up tho omits his jail sentance for Payola
  19. I'd never slag a record like Jack Montgomery, just don't wanna hear it out Dave.
  20. Ah not so rare then Actually now I think of it I might have got it from you John.
  21. This is actually quite a hard record. Got mine for £1.50 (I know you hate to hear that) from Soul Bowl back in the early 80's as did many then on the modern scene. However records like this just disappear into collections, and don't resurface too often.
  22. Nah classic oldie. Overplayed yes, but still a great record.
  23. Here's a couple of current phrases for Djs "Sorry it's a cover up" "But the last DJ just played "the chase is on" in his set "Take that record off now you sod, that's my exclusive record and I was going to play it"
  24. Yes I went to that one too. Black Frank from southampton was also there cos I travlled back on the train to london with him. Great nights and it really was the start of something fresh!
