  1. This is shocking Neil! When I interviewed Jr Walker for Blackbeat when he was at Peterborough in the early 80s all he could talk to me about was nice Mr Gordy and how good Mr Gordy had been to him. Being from the gutter press of black music, all I wanted to talk about was David Ruffin and the allegations re Tammi Terrell but he was having none of it!! Steve
  2. It's a great record; don't worry about keeping it on the shelf if no one on here wants it
  3. The current scene would be very boring without a few cover ups.
  4. just says things like that and Two Plus Two are unknown to most - it's in the context of oldies being far more popular these days. Don't get angry now Fingers.
  5. Well Uncle Tim Brown has mentioned it in the new Manifesto in a passing comment....
  6. ...or his thick black hair
  7. Nev died many years ago BigRay. About 1980/1. Back to the thread..... I also remember the Baldocks address, and also the shop in Melton that I used to come over to where videos vyed for space with the vinyl upstairs, and the shop in Newark later where I got things like Martha Starr (that was much later early 90s) - this is getting like a History of John Manship Records thread.
  8. Yes absolutely agree Sean. When I interviewed him on radio he was fine, just didn't want to talk about the mid 70s. I think with a lot of these guys we idolise there is probably a dark side lurking there somewhere. PS Fantastic instrumental version of "There was a time" by The Dapps on King.......£15-20 and well worth it.
  9. I remember typing it!!!
  10. The old Pat Butcher cover up?
  11. Yes it is the same singer. Both awful records - it is 9 times out of 10 that prompted me to climb up on the stage at Wigan and 'ave a few words in DJ Minshull's shell like.
  12. Good I couldn't remember them without looking.
  13. Bootlegs from Austria -now that sounds familiar
  14. But in the carver copy I let Sam keep he has edited down the air guitar. The original is longer and better I know it's too "hard edged" for some to like
  15. Bashie had 4 releases - all chronicled by yours truly in the last Voices From the Shadows magazine.
  16. Sems like quite a few of them around then.....I got Clarkies old copy.
  17. Lightweight
  18. Are you coming to lifeline Mr m?
  19. I am only on for an hour each night .....and Simon knows I do play em when I can.
  20. Little Reg's book? - he's on here why not pm him?
  21. Interesting I have got both so I'll have to dig em out. Larry sent me a box of 25, about 20 of one sort and 5 of the other. I sold them all at the Fleet for £2.50 in one night. This was 1982. Steve
  22. Agree with ya me hearty - one of the worst records on Motown
  23. Nope think it's just the guys that came over to the Mecca party night, and yep I am sure they don't sound like the 60s Carstairs anymore. Think Ian Levine will know more than me on this one
  24. 1999 tailor made. T'was done when the Carstairs played at Blackpool methinks......
