  1. Yes my one is the one that's been passed around about 20 people......and yet it still plays brilliantly. All I'll say is the 2nd copy is in Europe (not UK). The owner is on here and if he wants he can come on. I am sure some of you will hear him play it soon enough though
  2. Yes the label won't be scratched out. BTW King Moses died soon after making the record.
  3. Will probably end up going for some OTT price. Don't think it's really that rare at all. Now if it was a Rouser copy
  4. ...and eventually onto me......then the 2nd copy turned up this year. It';s a record I never tire off even if I am not playing it out much these days.
  5. Fantastic record which gets plays here at the more discerning venues.
  6. Great sweet soul record both sides. Love it. Only on styrene I believe.
  7. This happens on the modern scene. Saw Mike Ward play a 1 hour set off of two CDRs. But I think the northern scene is different as there isn't the same emphasis on original vinyl.
  8. Yeah record companies have always got snotty about re-selling promos, and they do over here occasionally. As for a lawsuit, I am afraid in California there are people that would sue someone for coughing in earshot. It's a wacky place so it doesn't surprise me that some zeleous lawyers have filed. It's a tricky one though as we're back into the royalties argument.
  9. But let's not forget the context of the time (1891 oops 1981) 1) it was losing money in the end - 300 in at the all nighters no other bookings 2) it was a dump 3) it was a fire risk and burnt down soon after closure It's all very well being romantic and saying it should have been preserved for future generations, but who would have paid to maintain it / upgrade it etc? It would have needed millions spent on it. Sorry but it had had it's day, and the scene moved on.
  10. Hey what you do with your records is your business, you can cut as many carvers as you like. The difference we have in the UK is some people do exactly what you've done (sold the rare ones) and cut a carver - then they DJ out playing the carvers of the records they used to own- that's the difference and that's unacceptable practice to my mind. If you haven't got the original vinyl you shouldn't play it out. If you have then by all means play it off a carver. I also don't buy this "the punters don't care" malarky - down this way they do. In fact "up there" they do too. The only ones I've found that don't care are the "Have you got the Snake" brigade. As for "it's always happened" - yes it has, and I've always felt the same way about the Emidisc merchants of yesteryear. The only difference possibly in the 70s there was a lot less variety and a lot faster turnround of sounds with sounds breaking overnight, and a thirst for all the jocks to have a copy straight away. These days it takes years to get the rarities. Rant over....for now.
  11. I am not condoning it. Just saying that was the deal.
  12. The link page for mel wynn isn't coming up
  13. Yes and that wasn't a problem for the buyer as at the time it was a total one off and the seller wanted to keep a copy (i.e. it was before the 2nd copy turned up).
  14. and that my friend is the beauty of soul source....
  15. Probably just different pressing plants.
  16. No that's an album track. It has been issued. Mark some of these carver merchants may be closer to home that you might think. I agree a very poor practice, but they still get "booked" - presumably now on the strength of their "carvers".
  17. I daren't mention this but it's Wigan's 35 anniversary this year
  18. well I will answer Stevie, as with me I'd still have the orig vinyl, though I understand one or two "Dee Jays" are now selling the original vinyl and playing the carvers - cheap skates on the basis that they used to have the vinyl ......naughty but apparantly true.
  19. No to prevent having to put sticky tape on the label.
  20. Yes happy to play carvers of me unissued acetate stuff (to preserve the acetate), one off's in dodgy condition which have been cleaned up, and cover ups.
  21. He's not still going is he? I mean I know he leads the annual torch vigil up to the site of the Casino on the night of the anniversary every year, but I thought he'd put his DJ box out to grass ages ago. Some good points by Rob - the toilets, the bar area, the tables and chairs were all well past their sell by date then. God knows what they'd be like now And hey Fluff you missed out Millie Jackson "A house for sale" and Willie Hutch "Love games" - Russ's other good ones.
  22. Not for personal use of course not. Only if you DJ'd out with it - I am assuming you are a DJ as everyone else on here is.
  23. Think I was there actually Toad, that's how I know.
  24. Think they did another single as well on the same label Down East. From NY?
