  1. Have found an old Blackbeat dated March 1981 in which Sam talks of his sacking from Wigan "for playing totally 70s and explaining my position in a letter to Black Echoes". The pieces are starting to fall into place.
  2. Kind of where I am too Mark - certainly with northern soul. Though obviously I also play modern at some gigs - different rules there of course as already discussed.
  3. Far from it Cambridge soul. At Soul Essence they had to tape down the controls with parcel tape to stop him "re-setting" the sound. At Skegness he comes on half way through my set and tells me the sound isn't right, twiddles the knobs and leaves with a thumbs up. A minute later the sound system owner comes up and says "What have you done with the sound, you've messed it up". Priceless. So yes Sam is king of the twiddlers. But we love him anyway.
  4. There is a Stoke connection Peter. I thought it said "Keep the faith F*ck the Funk"
  5. Fair call Rod, To me OV has history and meaning. Someones dreams and hopes of fame. Someone may have bought it, who were they, why did they buy it? etc etc. The band may have treasured it. Why did it fail? etc etc Don't get any of that with boots
  6. Haven't mentioned the death of your friend. YOU did. And I am certainly not belittling it. Nor have I rammed anything down anyones throat. Not sure about the ladies undies tho - what's that about?
  7. Hey Geordie your point is? The world is screwed up and your mates are ill, so we are not allowed to talk about vinyl now? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez
  8. ...and 5 million starving in Zimbabwe, and social injuctice in China, and my mate who has just lost his job, and my fiend who is ill and my cat who is meeowing for food etc. Come on Geordie don't give me the "lets put the world in perspective" line.....we are talking about the northern /rare soul scene. We're here because we are passionate about it regardless of what is going on around us.
  9. Eh? Think he's done some very good albums. Don't ask me I'm still too busy
  10. I like the 7" too Agree on Burgess though
  11. Reminder - who is missing from the list please?
  12. Mods can we merge the 2 threads please
  13. Rather than sulking tell me who'se missing and I'll add them
  14. Yes will update when I get a chance. BTW I have never seen your avatar on film Is that an original issue or a budget reissue of D.does.D? I notice it is on DVD so I can only conclude a REISSUE No one is coming forward on the CR&P venues, and why would they? And no one else is prepared to name them. So maybe it'll just end up being a list of OV venues with the caveats. Cheers
  15. You keep telling me you don't like northern Simon and slagging off that Mamsy Hampsey stuff. Or is it Sean Hampsey stuff
  16. Fair do's sorry been busy today, and had to deal with a couple of aggressive loons over on the 9/11 thread.
  17. Lowton? No it is on there.
  18. Ha Joan. P1 Post 1.....a list of venues that play OVO. My next challenge might be to list those that play interesting stuff versus boring stuff...but that would be just tooooooooo subjective and would lead to all manner of punch ups - so may just stay with OV v CR&P

  20. I'll update it when I get a chance....
  21. your best attempt yet Rod
  22. I can't get me head around some of this either Gav - but maybe from the other end of the telescope. V busy at work as you'd expect right now, but will try and summarise when I get a chance.
  23. A number of us as punters on here do care, but another number of people think that the punters don't care. I find that second view quite patronising of the punters.
  24. Russ - he the one that plays boots? He doesn't have any original records in his box. Does that make Eyes Down the first declared CR&P venue?
  25. Of course you can Gav. It's about bootlegs and playing quality....not about playing an album track of somehing that was on 45 which I don't bthink has ever been contentious.
