Current Bootleg Trading (split from Soul Pack thread)

I suppose really because these were good looking, amongst the best I have ever seen. Everyone knows what they are getting with a crudely stuck on label from Nottingham or wherever, but the ones I saw in this batch (Rita Graham, Magnetics, JWR and Greater Experience) actually looked pretty close to the originals. Yes of course a serious collector can tell up close, and we know B Woods and Sam Williams were all styrene on OV and so easy to tell. So immediately collectors are going to ask how many more are there?, where did they come from?, is this the tip of the iceberg?, is my copy I got last month original? etc. etc. -
I wouldn't be too upset at being on top of his hate list. I am not and understand we are just the latest in a very long list of people over the last 40+ years. My sin was identifying the Rita Graham as a pressing. I didn't even mention his name. Then Ted says there is a moody Magnetics which I confirmed I too had seen, and boom I am suddenly the "head of the soul police" and now "pursuing a personal vendetta". Utter cobblers. And all because we were trying to get to the bottom of these 20 titles and whether they'd been sold. I really don't know what you can do about your records - if you really don't want some of them take them down the skip. I did this recently with some records I didn't want, and the guys at the dump were all over me like a rash. It made their afternoon to get a big box of old 7s to look through! As someone else said chalk it up to experience.

Thanks as i am mentioned I better post my reply again. Just to put the record straight, I have NOT been pursuing a personal vendetta against Ian Levine. He was friends with me on FB until this year when he blocked me, Ive bought records from him in the past (none of these), we've exchanged emails periodically etc. and I am still happy to talk to him, even if he now thinks I am the head of the soul police (I did chuckle at that). But I HAVE been trying to get to the bottom of these mysterious records ever since the moody Rita Graham pitched up late last year with a friend of a friend. As for being haunted, oh God, please Nooooooo!!! Don't do it Ian -
Are you confident it's an original or a modern look-a-like

A Superlatives on Music Stack is not original but being sold as same. -
Great that is what I was looking for. Thanks. We mustn't forget the Heading West Band either which just fell off the shelf while I was looking for my Magnificents. Good instrumental.

Delta 99892….Does anyone have dates for Monarch 70s records. I only have Eddie Parker on the album, but yes. Steve
-
75 for the Magnicients. Delta numbers on my copy says so.

Hi Steve, I went to an allnighter in Rotherham, not SAS, not Clifton Hall, memorable because Sam had a puncture and the doormen replaced his tyre.
-
Hi Robin, Rebels def started in 81. I went to every one and was still living in Kent at the time. I remember travelling back on the train with black Frank from Southampton one time. The SAS alldayer in Shefield was 82-83. I went with you, Neil and Sue. You may recall I came across to yours on the train (well that was the plan) and a farmer in his tractor hit the train at Oakham. Class 31 with damaged front, I was going nowhere. No mobile phones and I was stuck at Oakham. I found a phone box, rang you and you came across and kindly picked me up, before we all headed up to Sheffield.

I can't do a sound file, but if you need it for a CD, there will be one here.

I think this is at best harsh at worst very naive. Bootlegging has been the scourge of the record industry for many decades. Have you read Tommy James book about Roulette stock being booted in the 60s (recommended)? Or the MCA book, dealers getting baseball- batted and impromptu "facial surgery" for bootlegging. It goes back a lot further than the Beatles and in many cases had nothing to do with unavailability. As for bootlegs never being about deception or theft: 1) less concerned if they are sold as such, but not when they are "weathered" and passed off as originals as has happened here. 2) Have you been on ebay? Plenty of available sounds being booted all over on carvers and crude boots. Its not about theft? Presumably no one holds the rights to any of these tracks and they are in the P.D? 3) I wonder if Universal (Motown) bootlegs (available on CDs), Ace / Kent, Soul Junction, Hayley, Numero Uno etc. share your view. I somehow doubt it.

SAS also ran allayers (at least one) at Sheffield (Romeo & Juliets?) c 82/83. It was pretty busy Mike Shaft et al in one room, Arthur Sam etc in the other.

I do know him well enough to e-mail, but with no disrespect to Ian (gulp), feel this whole story is just a load of BS. The dates don't work out, the ITB interview, Colin would have surely asked about this album if it existed in any form other than acetate. Sorry Ian.

So how do they bootleg a British record with centre? https://www.ebay.com/itm/181989441276?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D181989441276%26_rdc%3D1

ITB interview was late 90s / early 2000s though….

The strong belief (as yet unproven) is that the original plan was to make a killing, but when the plan was discovered, suddenly they're giveaways. Ian can protest as much as he likes (and he has told me his version too fair play to him), and I don't believe he is the original source of these records. But you have to admit giving records to occasional customers and hoping they won't sell them and saying "this is a secret" is at best, extremely naive. Some people just bring destiny on to them. -

The mid tempo cut off of his Capitol LP….I can't be arced to go and find it now, but its the best track on the LP. Done on a moody Gatur 45. -

But the point is Pete it WAS sold as an original. So the idea that these won't filter out doesn't hold water despite what you are being told. Full marks for getting the fella his money back. -

Look at the FB page Pete. Money eventually refunded but sold as an original. -

Come off it and stop playing the old "victim" card. It's a busted flush now. We comment on bootlegs every day on here, even more so on FB. The difference is mostly they're obvious boots and no one will get fooled. These ones were designed to deceive and have. Catch up on the FB thread please. Or is "anoraks corner" also talking "ridiculous assumptions". I think not. -

You are involved? I have heard that too. I was surprised but that is another story doing the rounds. Mud is starting to stick on anyone connected with this.
