  1. That's correct and time wise I can pin down when I got my copy to an alldayer at The Bass Museum, Burton, when Andy dyson turned up with it. It's probably longer ago than we think as they haven't been any there for at least 2 years now. It was after Roy's UK appearance as no one knew of it then. When it started getting played everyone thought they'd ring Roy up and get it but Roy as you say had none left.
  2. Yes Honey Bees has never turned up, though like Just Brothers it did get a release number. One day someone may turn one up, but I suspect these were just numbers given to the records and that Scepter went instead with the Garrison inprint at the end of the day. One Garrison release that did come out on Wand however was "Humphrey stomp". Walter Wilson yes a Wand holy grail. I know of Mick Smith's which is cracked, mine and Soul Sam's. I am sure one or two other hands will go up as they always do , but it was apparantly pulled from release post pressing due to a contractual dispute and never got out of the offices, except for the engineer / producer etc. There are some other really hard ones too such as J Kelly & The Premiers in the 70s which was mispressed and re-put out on Roadshow. I'd imagine that most of them got smashed. I've never seen the second Lee Charles or the second Reflection 45s either - think it was called "Four walls and a phone" or something. ANother one I've not seen from the 60s is Jesse Hill. And one of MAxine's later efforts is also a mystery. All of this makes Wand such a Delite-ful label to collect
  3. That's the point, complete radio silence for four months, no wonder people are going to get increasingly angry when they hear nothing in return.
  4. No just pointing something out Fingers.......
  5. Played it a couple of years back, it was a regular at the local soul clubs round here......very good tune.
  6. Amazed at how much innacurate stuff there is on this thread. No Mick Smith doesn't have every Wand release, no, Carlena doesn't exist on Wand as far as anyone is aware. And Ed Bruce is hard to find but isn't as rare as the Ivories Fingers. It does show up although it also fetches a lot of money. There's three or four copies of the Ivories known on Wand, and the last one went for £1,300 ish, not some of the numbers mentioned on here. As for the other copies of The Ivories, probably thrown out, or sitting in someone's basement somewhere......
  7. My most famous trip was to an evening do on a Friday. I was living in Kent. Left work early and got the 5 30-ish Hull train from Kings Cross to Goole.....thence by Bus from Goole to the Highwaymans, I was there before 8 and it hadn't opened. A great night ensued, Poke, Arthur, Sam etc. and at the end of the night at about 1 am or 2 am, no way of getting back. So I cobbled a lift in Sam's car (the blue Vauxhall Chevette), and he kindly ran me to Doncaster station. From there I got a night train at about 3.15 am full of both drunk and fast alseep Scots and Geordies! Back to London by 7 am, across town, and on another train to Tonbridge, and I was still home at Mum's in time for a late breakfast!!! And you tell the kids that today, and they won't believe you!
  8. Course she's not white......If you had a copy Gash you would know this has Gene Redd written all over it....
  9. Crossover - too slow for northern speedos, too fast for old style funk (JB etc.). It's the music of the late 60s and early 70s, that has a 60s feel but isn't that fast but still has a beat. Tony drake "Suddenly" epitomises the sound for me. But then again Margie Joseph "One more chance" is also viewed as a crossover classic. Two step is the forerunner to todays R&B sound, heavy bass line, almost a reggae feel to it, mostly made mid 70s to early / mid 80s. Try Arnold Blair "Trying to get next to you", or Keith Barrow "You know you want to be loved" for examples. Mr Bear is that clear?
  10. Hey be careful, "The Wurzels" are still incredibly popular down in Somerset.......
  11. I can now reveal that Paul Gascoyne is in exclusive talks for a new C4 series about the North East called "Come Tyne with me"
  12. My missus would certainly agree with you there, as she likes "come dine with me". C4 also has the best news progrmme in C4 news at 7 pm.
  13. Apologies one and all I only got a C in A level Geography. Anyway has there been another skirmish in Manifesto yet?
  14. No I meant boring and monotonous SJC. As someone who dances, I don't find it exciting either. Glad to see I am not alone.
  15. To me it's too monotonous by half - dead boring. Realise I'll be in trouble with some of my fellow collectors, but there you wanted a view now you have one.
  16. Martyn, look at the map. The village is in England, we'll never let the Welsh lay claim to it. And Sam is orignally from the Lake District I seem to recall......
  17. Sorry Martyn, and at the risk of sounding like Tim B.in one of his articles If you look at a map you will see that the village that Sam lives in IS in ENGLAND, not Wales. Steve
  18. And why would he speak Welsh when he lives in England?
  19. Yeah you are right Martyn, Sam doesn't particularly like the 'digs' and point scoring. I mean they are not having fundamental arguments about the future direction of the scene, more like minor discrepancies. I understand the need for accuracy, and I would support that all the way, but all I see are comments like "this was first played in August 1973 not September 1973 as said by Sam last issue, and Sam would do well to remember that such and such was played at 8.15 p.m at the Mecca one week in 1975, so has been known about for 35 years". Do wish Tim would stop writing to us as if he is lecturing us from "on high", he doesn't know it all, and he certainly, like the rest of us, doesn't have all the records. A bit more humility wouldn't go amiss now and again. Otherwise I enjoy his musings.
  20. Of course they did, probably pressed at least 20,000, but they probably didn't get much past the distributors and most copies probably got trashed / recycled.
  21. It shouldn't be too expensive as quite a few copies sold in the UK as a new release around 1980/1. Both sides pretty cool, so good luck.
  22. The Tchula release has a really nice vibe to it......have always liked it ever since first buying it in 82. Miles better than the earlier versions for my money....Steve
  23. I am with Bully on this "Satisfactorise your mind" every time......
  24. Thanks for the confirmation - damn there goes my Ebay inheritance
  25. Excellent stuff........
